Great guys - was a one-off roadie for them (and Medicine Head) when they 'headlined' the Sorby Hall (Sheffield University) Ball in summer 1977 - happy days!
This song was composed by Chip Taylor who is Jon Voight's brother. The Wild Ones were the first to record. The Troggs made the song famous in England and in every garage in the world. Jimi Hendrix broke all the rules and owned this song, and shamed the last act who followed him at the Monterey Pop festival. Who was the Last act. That is not a question.
@Diosprometheus Before taking the stage name, Chip Taylor, he recorded as Wes Voight. You can find him on youtube by searching for Wes Voight (aka Chip Taylor) - I'm Ready To Go Steady. It's a great song!
@Diosprometheus so what is your complaint , did u not like or appreciate the British domination that liberated your country to rock music ,in those days Americans were getting consumed by soul ) even a poet genius like Bob Dylan manage to grow becoz of the Brit invasion and dont forget he copied a Manfred Mann song ( but i do not have problem with that)just as i would like to thank America from liberating us from Hitler. if it was not for US intervention we would all be speaking German now
@GIZOKS This was an early one but The Kinks "You Really Got Me" is considered the first heavy metal song-because it was centered on power cords. The Ramones are usually cited as the first Punk band, and the Stooges and the New York Dolls influenced Punk. But this song was an early influence on Punk rock. It's termed Garage rock, which has a unrefined or raw sound. The song "Louie, Louie" by the Kingsmen is an early Garage tune." 96 Tears" by Question Mark and the Mysterians is another.
Actually,, it's neither a flute nor an ocarina. It's the recording engineer blowing through his thumbs. The song wasn't quite finished when the first takes were done, and so where the guitar solo was supposed to go, the engineer just filled the spaces. It sounded so good, well, weird, they left it in the final version.
So cool-that neck swinging-holding his finger up-too cool. I owned a pair of pants like the ones they had on while I was in the 3rd grade. Mine were red-white and blue. I came running around a corner on my way to school and these older guys probably 20-24 laughed and asked me-hey where did you get those pants, and I looked back and said-from your mama! They laughed even harder then. I was only in the 3rd grade.
All the people there saying "Hey Troggs !! , do you mind getting the hell out of the way, we are trying to catch a train !!! " I'm trying to get on the train, and there is a freekin drumset in my way, some stupid guy holding a guitar is blocking the door to the train, and this band is stopping everyone from entering the train. The only reason the people are watching this crap , is because they are trying to get on the train
@tamerswan What are you taslking about? I never heard of closet rock, bed rock, or floor rock. Garage Rock is exactly what they called this type of music. It's not something I made up. It's a genre of music. Also, I care. ;)
I still like this version best.

START OF PUNK OR HEAVY METTLE??????
GIZOKS 3 months ago
@GIZOKS I don't see it. What do you base it on?
John1948ThirteenA 3 months ago
@GIZOKS A lot of media people say that, but I think the Shadows Of Knight rocked harder. Esp I'm Gonna Make You Mine 1966.
monkeeman1966 3 months ago
@GIZOKS No. Look for The Monks - they were doing harder, punkier stuff in the early 60s.

@jajacannoli It is an ocarina. That thumb business is just a false rumour.
John1948ThirteenA 6 months ago 4
@John1948ThirteenA Yep, you are correct. The whistling part was redone with Colin Fletcher playing an ocarina.

Actually, I believe it was an ocarina solo.
DominickFontana 1 year ago
@DominickFontana - Actually, right on both accounts...an ocarini is in a class of instruments known as vessel flutes.
Ullarsskald1989 10 months ago
@Ullarsskald1989 Hi. Thanks for the info. And this song preceded Jethro Tull by a number of years, so they were ahead of their time.
DominickFontana 10 months ago
Classic Garage Rock, but this song's claim to fame was that it had a flute solo, instead of a guitar solo. Unique for its day.
