  • Once saw Steve Ellis at a small venue on an RAF camp (1990)...I was gushing my thanks to him at the door on his way out.......he seemed genuinely pleased and happy that we had enjoyed the show and THANKED ME.....lovely humble guy and massive talent

  • oh Thanks so much for this video of Stevie - Fantastic

  • a pretty shame that playback and fake intents in tv shows to look like live singing; surely it could be a good performance playing and singing for real -the voice is great anyway-

  • I never tire of listening to the great Steve Ellis and this is my favorite video and song, a certain part makes me go all girly, and I just cant help it, Steve`s to blame ;) x

  • Brilliant song, superb singer. Love the air drummer. Never got within a foot of the actual drums. Miming at its worst.

  • One of the best 60's singles!

  • He`s the best, and I have always loved this song, who would`nt? xx

  • I just cant get enough of Steve...I mean his amazing voice and songs ;) honest!

I hope he`s touring soon, would love to see him live on stage, what a treat that would be !

  • Sadly mimed!

  • Love Sunny Leslie and Sue Glover on the background of this classic. xx

  • at least as good as steve marriott and van morrison!

  • fantastic vocal

  • So sooooooooooooo good

  • Lipsyncing bollocks.... why???

  • Simply to say: this is Soul, like Diana Ross The Supremes!

  • Why is Angus Deayton playing Drums?

  • Well, Steve does`nt know me, so guess I dont have his Everlasting Love :/ But he definitly has mine :) and so agree with SuperNeil that Steve Ellis is very underrated! I just adore that cheeky smile he does half way though singing this amazing song! also !

  • great band.whatever happened to pete murray?????

  • Timeless Classic*

  • This is one of those big songs of the 60s. Wonderful!

  • This Song

Everlasting Love By Steve Ellis And The Love Affair Is A Very Good Song To Listen Too And I Do Liked It And Steve Ellis Was A D.j. And Presenter On Severn Sound In Gloucester It Is True But He Did Die Some Time A Go Now

  • @dwig11 Steve Ellis from Love Affair is not dead!! I saw him recently, he lives in Brighton!! Cheeky thing :)

  • A bit twee here.

  • my favorite song!

  • I always loved this song

  • Pointless miming. I thought Ellis left Love Affair to find some dignity!

  • @georgebur i was just about to mention that it was so shockingly obvious that they were!!

  • this takes me great gt song.

  • They're not even playing their instruments! Good song though.

  • bulll shit

hey people go to see u2 how they play this song

  • A real classic, never dates

  • Yea it's playback, They're actually miming ther 1967 original. No orchestra, horn section or backing singers..........HELLO!

  • Just a great memory from the past. The Ice rink at Paisley in the late 60's....

  • Goosebumps on the back of my neck, uplifting, inspiring and brilliant ONLY FIT TO BE SUNG BY STEVE ELLIS. Certain classics such as this, American Trilogy, Tin Soldier, Gimme Some Lovin should not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be touched by other artists- Then again there is nobody that can sing like Steve Ellis, Elvis, Steve Marriot or Stevie Winwood- UNFORTUNATELY!

  • @MrSuperneil05 Oh do I ever agree with you on all the songs you mention, Im not sure who wrote Everlasting Love? but I wish Steve had sung that to me personally....ok I can but dream cant I ? and Steve Marriot was also a great favorite!

These guys I can never tire of!..

  • @HilaryMG

Search for Steve singing at the memorial concert for Stevie Marriot. he sang with the mods and from I can see of other performances (on youtube) theirs was the best tribute by a long long way

  • @iansac100 Hi Tthere, I did and just loved it, Steve Marriot could do no wrong and neither can Steve Ellis..only wish I had been there :) left a comment...x

  • @HilaryMG Steve sometimes plays gigs in Brighton, where he lives. First time I saw him was at the end of a 30 mile charity walk at Wembley when he was in Love Affair, then saw him at the Marquee with Widowmaker. We used to be neighbours, long long time ago, and he is a really sweet guy. You are right to think he is great

  • @iansac100 Gosh naturally I envy you actually knowing him and seeing him, but he is the one singer I do so want to see...and will one day, its up to me and I shall as I know it will be more then worth it !

Just to add its years since I was in Brighton, lucky people living there ;)

  • @iansac100 my dad tells me when he was a window cleaner he use to do his mum and dads windows in dagenham

and he wasn't going to do any more songs after this big hit but his dad persuaded him to do some more and i love this song very much too

  • @iansac100 So he is handsome, great voice and he`s sweet to..I knew it :) but though I dont know him personally, he really does come over as a nice guy :) and I hope to see him one day, because as yet sadly never seen him on stage :(

  • @MrSuperneil05 Something about the name, Steve? ;) and btw I agree though late, with everything you said!

  • @MrSuperneil05 "ONLY FIT TO BE SUNG BY STEVE ELLIS...should not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be touched by other artists"

This gave me a wry smile - "Everlasting Love" was a cover of US singer Robert Knight's original recording, as was "Rainbow Valley". The Love Affair's is a very good version (for a UK cover anyway), but credit where it's due, please.

  • @drwhatson HEAR HEAR ! Could`nt agree more Steve Ellis is without doubt the best!

  • @HilaryMG er, thanks, but maybe you should read my comment again... :-)

  • @drwhatson Hiya, I cant find that comment to read again lol.. how long ago was it?

  • @drwhatson ..hmm I found it, its ok pet, I have great taste, yours so so :) btw Dr.Watson Mr.Holmes is shocked lol

  • @HilaryMG It's Dr. What's-On - not Watson, and I did say that Love Affair was a good version and bought it in 1968 (You really should pay more attention...), however The Love Affair must presumably have heard Robert Knight's versions of the two songs they covered.

  • @drwhatson ..Oh me oh my you make me want to cry..Dr.Watson was a play on your name...if you read itagain I mention Mr.Holmes..get it? probably not..any Steve Ellis/Love Affair is in MY opinion the best version!!!!

  • That keyboard player is brilliant! Getting that orchestra sound out of such a small instrument is nothing short of amazing!! FANTASTIC version!! LOVE IT!!

  • GREAT tune, no matter who covers it. Thanks for posting!!

  • Total classic

  • classic

  • Now that I look in my collection I see I have a more uptempo version by the Love Affair of Everlasting Love. Why this was done I don't know, the one posted here was the one I am familiar with and played as a DJ in the '60's.

  • Always liked this version of the song as well as Robert Knight. Never having seen them I was pleased to find someone not only remembered their cover version but posted a video so we could SEE them!. I agree they are lip syncing, but who cares it's a great tune sung by a great group even though you can't see the backup singers or the rest of the orchestra. They may have been a studio group for all I know, but THANKS FOR POSTING IT!!!

  • He sounds exactly the same as he did in the 60's.

  • The reason he sound exactly the same as he did in the 60's is that he's miming to the original recording from the 60's !!!

  • Thanks dude, I didn't know that:)

  • Steve Ellis had a superb voice, a CLASSIC OF THE HIGHEST ORDER, superb backing vocals, love the orchestration, an uplifting inspirational diamond of a song

  • Great song, but the performance lacks some... authenticity. They could've at least tried plugging in their instruments :P

  • @MoonWolfSotG it worked in the 60s but it didn't worked in the 90s. You can even see the sneer on the piano players face! Maybe they should have updated it to the 90s musical influence, style and pop geist, the the 60s style they are using here is not working! What do you think just my opinnion!

  • @Zecalran I meant that it sounded exactly the same as the single, then noticed they didn't have their instruments plugged in, therefore must have "playbacked" it.

  • @MoonWolfSotG yeah but I meant the whole aura of the thing didn't feel up to date!

  • @Zecalran True :D

  • my friend margaret and me , went to see love affair in the late 60s we were both madly in love with steve ellis, he was funny and wore skinny jumpers ! steve now looks sad and bored ?

  • Steve my friend you are a classic

    Love you

  • This version has nothing on the version from the Town Criers. Have a listen.

  • Hi ampsnbits, it was'nt Herbie Flowers on bass it was a guy now deceased named Russ Stableford. Confirmed by Clem. Stablefords sound is very distinctive you can also here it on other tracks such as Rainbow valley. According to Clem Stableford used Fender Jazz Precisian and a Fretless one he bought from the widow of John Rostill who was with the Shadows but sadly was electricuted.

    Tony

  • This is still one of the best songs I've ever heard - I wasn't even born when it first hit number 1 in 1968!

  • their dead..

  • There old now after 43 years

  • Listen to the original (1967) version by Robert Knight - not the re-recorded one, the original. The orchestrations are excellent!

  • Seems to be Playback. :-) Anyhow: Awesome song, even I prefer the Sandra - Version.

  • A classic, Steve Ellis was a very under rated chanter. I thought he had the same down to earth vocals similar to Steve Winwood

  • @SuperNeil05 Ah two greats in one sentence. Great stuff. Regards

  • the good old days of love affair, another era now.

  • They say men get better looking the older they get and Steve Ellis certainly proves that theory!!! Loved him years ago on TOTP. He did a single on his own called El Doomo. It was on an old album I had. Fabulous. Trying to track it down.

  • Too bad this was a tape recording.

  • who cares? Steve Ellis was my first ever crush at 9 years old!!!! He still looks gorgeous!!!! Love you Stevie x

  • Great Music

  • go boys, this song was superb and they are doing it well , not a mime!

  • blatent mime!

  • he is the old lead singer though. isn't he?

  • To Cujo9: I think the backing singers on the original track ( which is the one being played here-you can tell from Clem Cattini's drum break) were Sue and Sunny, also heard on Joe Cocker's Little Help from My Friends. Sunny had a solo hit later with Doctor's Orders

  • ooh, so theyre miming to the original here, eh?

  • They sure are! Thats the sound of Clem Cattini on drums, Russ Stableford on bass, Alan Hawkshaw on organ,Sue and Sunny on backing vocals and the Keith Mansfield brass section, dating from the 1968 recording. (You can also tell from the fact that the drummer's sticks hit the air, not the kit!). It could be Steve Ellis singing live though.

  • could be... thanks for the info!

  • Kiki Dee and Madeline Bell also sang on this.

  • Yes, Clem Cattini on drums, WITH Herbie Flowers (born Brian Keith Flowers) On Bass, plus Big Jim Sulivan & Jimi Page on Guitars :o)

  • the vocals are unreal

  • i love this song

    thanks for the upload

  • song for a century!

  • @crossbike ..and more!!

  • @torpedineatomica

  • Sea of Souls give this song a way another definition...

  • lasting song

  • Great live version...thanks for posting!

  • i simply love this song! go go steve ellis!!!!

  • this guys a ledgend supreme vocalist sorry you really should try the sister group of spec saver / ear savers but perhaps its to late there fucked steve Ellis deserverd higher acclaim alot better than most so called artists should never have walked away from The love affair but he needed to front a band ,steve marriott ' stevie winwood ' ray davis not in jaggers league but could have been ' and deserved to get far more reco I guess that's life no hard feelings zevon44

  • this song brings back some great memories.

Steve has aged well, - was cute then, cute now, - and just look at those EYES!!

  • a brilliant classic from another era now.....id love to know who those women looked like who sing the backing vocals.....theres no sign of them on any of love affairs performances ..

  • omg i was in live with steve happy days

  • I was 13 years old when I saw the Love Affair at the Birmingham Odeon (also with Gene Pitney but I was in love with Steve Ellis and had posters of him all over my bedroom. I "borrowed" my older sister's dress (just in case I met Steve after the show - how stupid was I!!). I still think he's sexy - I'm 53 now!

  • I downloaded love affair - everlasting love 1993 and it stopped every few seconds.Could you please help.Kind regards. dennis

  • It might be a radical idea, but you can still BUY it on CD!

  • Yep, Steve Ellis rocks!

And yes, it's hats off to the stupendous Keith Mansfield Orchestra for that AWESOME backing track!

  • ITS A GREAT SONG

  • "once again miming" your're having a laugh surely. They mimed it when it was originally recorded lol!

  • Not strictly correct . The only member of Love Affair to appear on the Everlasting Love hit single was singer Steve Ellis , seen here.

  • i love it

  • Once again miming and not playing the instruments...Still one of my favourite 60's songs, great voice!

  • maybe miming ! but hey he was'nt when it made number one my friend ! great voice he needed a bit more luck top vocolist of the late sixties deserved better sung great pop songs very well mis managed his career in my opinion a real shame but thank you steve for you brilliant contributions to the music world love every thing you have done mate !

  • I agree with everything you say,yes he did deserve more commercial success but i do think that when former pop stars years down the line go on to tv shows miming to past hits in my opinion it takes some of the magic away from their original recordings of their past hits but as we all know it is usually done for the money..

  • It one of my Favorite songs.

  • Thanks very much for sharing this video - it's brilliant! One of my all time favourite songs and Steve Ellis is a fantastic singer!

  • @burnleysbs This song is fantastic, I know the girls who did the back up on this, Miss Sunny Leslie and Miss Sue Glover from the old Brotherhood of Man group, this is awesome, thanks you have brought back such great memories. xxxx

  • nice song love it`!

  • still love the song <3
