I believe becoming 100% socialist is politically impossible, which I think is a good thing for many reasons, but taking some socialist ideas I also think will do a great deal of good.
The local paper for my area, the Florida Times Union, there was an article some time ago about the cost to local hospitals taking care of people that can't pay for their medical treatment(like the poor and homeless). What was happening was that the hospitals were losing money and being cooperate owned no one wanted that to happen. So what they did naturally was raise the price of all the treatments. (cont. to next comment.)
After a while the accountants started to notice that the same amount of people started to cost the hospital more money, so they looked into the matter. They found out the problem was that the same amount of people were coming in for almost the same treatment, but what was happening was that each year the cost of the treatment was going up. This might be ok if the hospitals were privately owned so the owners could say "we are making about the amount of profit each year, so it is ok"(cont.)
But being publicly owned and being on paper that the cost of running the hospitals as is makes it almost impossible to get investors to make an investment, because the investors usually to don't take the time to insider the accounting oddities and just assume that investing in our local hospitals to be a bad investment, leaving the doctors in the hospitals to make a decision, to save the people lives or save there jobs.
But if the Government would pay just the amount that it cost the hospital to treat the people than this increase in cost and the following spiral would never happen. saving everyone from SOME of the increase in health care cost.

Well, there are two sides to torture. On one hand the process of torture gives the victim the information they need to then answer the questions later & stop the pain. On the other hand, if it was any liberals family member under threat and torture would save that person, I dare say that liberal would be all for it.

You can not agree to be part of an illegal action and absolve yourself of its illegality. You can not agree to be murdered, you can not agree to be robbed. If you do, you are comminting a conspiracy to commit a crime.
The difference is, the volunteers do not have criminal intent. Virtually all crimes, including violation of treaties and inhuman degradation, require the intent to make something happen. When the intent is missing, an element of the crime is missing.
Lack of criminal intent only mitigates punishment, it does not absolve you of a crime. If you kill someone or steal something without intent, you are still guilty of a crime but can plead extenuating circumstances for a lesser punishment. Volunteering to be waterboarded as a demonstration that it is torture and criminal would indicate they fully understand it is a crime and they should be arrested and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I don't think this is quite right - at the very least, lack of mens rea is the border between crimes in most state jurisdictions, e.g. the difference between criminal negligence and murder. With no mens rea and a few other shifts (reasonable person test), one can easily move to activities that are not even criminal.
Also by your argument, since the interrogators at the waterboarding do not have criminal intent, they can not be criminals and charged with a crime and waterboarding ( or any torture ) if not done with criminal intent is not inhuman degradation.

Closing the base is not the answer to this problem. If i were our enemy, and if i thought they were torturing in Guantanamo, I would think they would just be closing it so they could move it somewhere else and torture in that new location. What they should do, is allow the red cross or some other independent group full access to the facility. Allow constant supervision to make sure no torturing continues and that the prisoners are treated humanly.

i voted for obama, and i have been disappointed so far. Unfortunately, Obama has changed his mind too much. He talks about Amercian values; How we are great because of them. If he really believed in those valuse, he would hold those people that "tortured" accountable. Our founders wanted to make sure are leaders were not above the law. I will give a small example.
The local paper for my area, the Florida Times Union, there was an article some time ago about the cost to local hospitals taking care of people that can't pay for their medical treatment(like the poor and homeless). What was happening was that the hospitals were losing money and being cooperate owned no one wanted that to happen. So what they did naturally was raise the price of all the treatments. After a while the accountants started to notice that the same amount of people started to cost the hospital more money, so they looked into the matter. They found out the problem was that the same amount of people were coming in for almost the same treatment, but what was happening was that each year the cost of the treatment was going up. This might be ok if the hospitals were privately owned so the owners could say "we are making about the amount of profit each year, so it is ok"(cont.)

But being publicly owned and being on paper that the cost of running the hospitals as is makes it almost impossible to get investors to make an investment, because the investors usually to don't take the time to insider the accounting oddities and just assume that investing in our local hospitals to be a bad investment, leaving the doctors in the hospitals to make a decision, to save the people lives or save there jobs.

The difference is, the volunteers do not have criminal intent. Virtually all crimes, including violation of treaties and inhuman degradation, require the intent to make something happen. When the intent is missing, an element of the crime is missing.

Lack of criminal intent only mitigates punishment, it does not absolve you of a crime. If you kill someone or steal something without intent, you are still guilty of a crime but can plead extenuating circumstances for a lesser punishment. Volunteering to be waterboarded as a demonstration that it is torture and criminal would indicate they fully understand it is a crime and they should be arrested and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I don't think this is quite right - at the very least, lack of mens rea is the border between crimes in most state jurisdictions, e.g. the difference between criminal negligence and murder. With no mens rea and a few other shifts (reasonable person test), one can easily move to activities that are not even criminal.

He is not testing the waters, he is preventing the rule of law from taking place and yet he wants to build a "law regime".
This is all culminating into Civil War and Obama is playing along. America can not keep going at this rate without tearing herself apart.

I could tell you who controls both sides of our political parties, but you wouldnt believe me if I told you.
It takes years of looking into to come to this conclusion. And no, its not the Jews. Although there is a small faction of them that play into the larger problem.
What I have to suggest has very serious implications, but you would write it off as conspiracy theory without all the background knowledge.

In response to you talking about his decision to keep these generals, if you have military leaders who've been engaged and in the war for as long as it's been already, would you just suddenly get rid of them? With the amount of experience and understanding they've already come to acquire from all of their engagements? Maybe perhaps if they were dangerously incompetent; to the point of wasting resources and lives. But I'm pretty sure they haven't acted like so.

There is a big problem with this tho.
Keeping these Generals is part of the problem.
It is not a case of them being incompetent.
It is a case of them being not completely committed to the United States of America.
They have allegiance to something before America.
There is a group of men that have been more dangerous to America than a thousand armies.
Petraeus, Casey, Gates, Pace, and a few others CAN NOT be trusted.
I can explain why this is, but you have to keep an open mind for starters...

I guess you haven't heard; it is in those areas that the real terrorist's have actually been housed and hiding. Not in fact in Iraq. And please, don't compare Mexico and drug dealers to terrorists. That just silly and juvenile.
And if taking the fight to those who would harm others is Warmonger like, then please explain the actions of our leaders in WW1 and WW2. I understand that our enemies were declared and easily identified, but that's what makes the terrorists so deadly.

If you mean he said he planned to do something instead of pledge, then yes thats what actually happened. And if some new and better information came along that allowed him to make a better decision, then I guess you can't call that a bait and switch. Sure he changed his mind on the plan, but does that make the plan worse necessarily? I'd love to hear some hole in it; maybe I'm not that well informed.

I admit that the parties themselves have become very similar in not only their agenda's but also their actions. I don't however see them as ploys. They are merely acting like this to adhere to the majority of people. If both parties had radical ideas that were not of the norm, or had ideals that would cause obvious separation in the American people, then it would be much harder to get them to rally to your side; and even harder for them to remain there in the long run.

EricIndiana, the USA is not a sports car - it cant turn on a dime. It takes time to build momentum so that the people and congress are behind him. So yes, it will be all "smoke and mirrors" until people get behind him. Congress is more powerful then the president they enact new laws and change old ones all Obama can do is enforce the laws on the books weather he likes them or not. Congress has to enact Obama's change. No act of congress then no change. Call your rep!

I guess I do have to look into it to see it's claims; but it is in my experience that these types of conspiracys are nothing more than hearsay and half baked conclusions. Real conspiracies like Nixon's attempt to blacklist those not in favor of him were all found out eventually; its human nature.

Be careful. There is a lot of propaganda out there about the Jesuits. You have to look at historical facts and sift through some of the BS.
Its doesnt stop with the Jesuits by any means.
But check out the Gunpowder Plot. The Jesuits were ultimately behind it. It was Jesuit Henry Garnet that introduced Guy Fawkes to ringleader Robert Catesby.
And Lincolns assassination, look into it too and the Catholic conspirators and not just Booth.

Obama was compaigning that it was wrong (and he would stop) holding prisoners indefinitely with no charges against them but he has changed his ideas and now is going to do that with a number of gitmo prisoners.
How do all of you who are drooling over his every move feel about that?
It was horrible when Bush/Cheney did it but when Obama does it, "it's for our safety".

Closing the base is not the answer to this problem. If i were our enemy, and if i thought they were torturing in Guantanamo, I would think they would just be closing it so they could move it somewhere else and torture in that new location. What they should do, is allow the red cross or some other independent group full access to the facility. Allow constant supervision to make sure no torturing continues and that the prisoners are treated humanly.

i voted for obama, and i have been disappointed so far. Unfortunately, Obama has changed his mind too much. He talks about Amercian values; How we are great because of them. If he really believed in those valuse, he would hold those people that "tortured" accountable. Our founders wanted to make sure are leaders were not above the law. Apparently they are in Obama's view. His actions have contradicted some of America's values. I don't think he has the fortitude and passion to do much.
