I think this is a great discovery because both diseases presented (multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis) are very uncomfortable to live with, not to mention degenerative. Hopefully soon the combine of T cells and blockade of leptin will be a reality and patients can improve their health. At Symposier site there is more information for physicians interested on Rheumatoid Arthritis and other medical topics.
interesting angle on how the body self regulates itself...immunology is very interesting, especially how it is combined wtih stem cells in these videos
Interesting that hormones can produce such effects. I was unfamiliar with leptin, although now that i think about it, I think i remember the company Amylin here in town was working on using this as an anti-obesity drug. Maybe this is a brand new use for leptin ! to stop these T regulatory cells in patients who have cancer or where you actually want to stope the t regulatory cell attack

yes but leptin causes weight-loss, so you may not want to give it to cancer patients since it may accelerate cachexia

thats why you would use the leptin in a post surgical setting BEFORE the patient becomes cacketic
