Great basic information. My son is 23 and been treated with a mix of fatty acids suppliments DHA, ARA. He was part of the original DHA study in Baltimore, MD.

@JoeMSIE Two of my cousins just received stem cell transplants at duke medical center and are cured of the disease, the damage done is permanent for the most part, but that is your best bet for a cure. I'm not sure how the transplant would take considering your son's age as opposed to my cousins, they were very young. But the best of luck to you.

Yes, I am watching the film Lorenzo's Oil in my biology class. It opens my eyes to new perspectives about what people have to go through, it's quite devastating. I cried so much during the movie, it touched my heart. God bless

@sakura2974 actually no he didnt. pneumonia doesnt affect the brain. it affects the respiratory system.

Pneumonia may develop due to depressed chest movement while breathing which is coursed by ALD.

ALD courses a shut down of the nervous system which will effect the whole of the body
