  • can you say what model of dell you have in there please?

  • @masalcedo1 Dell Inspiron 1750

  • neat!

  • kim siker ubuntuyu

  • i love how this dell pc looks

  • The best part is that now you can USE your computer and don't have to wait 5 minutes before it responds to you. Windows takes over 5 minutes (500GB HDD, but still, 5 minutes? Linux takes 10 seconds.)

  • I can hear the hard disk drive, that's not SSD

  • @amirhdrz91 Yes ,because another computer working near. And how you can hear HDD work when your computer off or when bios checking in progress. :)))))))

  • ubuntu 10.10 for me takes 17 seconds with a conventional hard drive (200 gig seagate)

  • Great speed in your video! I'm using Mint right now in my cheap Asus 1015B and the boot time around 46s. As long it's under 1 min, I'm still happy. It took around 5s to shut down.

  • With systemd (not properly configured though) I get 17 seconds to boot into arch linux and about 2-3 seconds to shutdown. When I have more time I'll try to configure systemd as properly configured usual init scripts took for Arch to boot in 11 sec.

(All this is on a normal laptop HDD)

  • I could actually care less about how fast my PC starts up, I turn it on, grab a cup of coffee, come back and it's on. :P

  • i timed my laptop 2gb ram intel centrino 2 with ubuntu 11.04 and my boot time is about 1 minute sometime longer sometimes shorter but around 1 min. this is half as fast temping to get ssd now lol

  • @IAMGraphicDesign Actually it can. Most of the viruses nowadays are downloaded by the victim because he thinks they are legitimate files. And you can easily make a virus suppressing all your home files in linux for example. What is way harder to do, though (even impossible), is make a virus that will alter system files or get installed without your participation.

  • @RaptorTeak I would say the biggest thing that stops people from writing viruses for Linux is that most of the users are developers or some other flavor of power user and are less likely to be duped by dancing pigs.

  • does Ubuntu gets viruses ? > ?

  • @madhawarock It can. But they're super rare.

  • @madhawarock not 1 virus is out trust me.

  • @madhawarock Any OS can get a virus...there's just not a lot of people that make virii for *NIX OS's. That's because most people use Windows, so they like to target big groups.

  • so fast you dont even get to see the ubuntu loading splash screen. lol.

  • i jizzed

  • Mac OSX can shut down faster than that

  • @loc87437529 lmao

  • @loc87437529 bro just move on from Mac

  • ottimo

  • u should of dual bot

  • Freaking Amazing!

  • why dont just setup hibernation with tuxonice?

1005HA is fully operational in 15-20 seconds from the moment i click the power button and the system is fully preloaded with the apps already used (read: the apps you use more will launch very fast) without any preload daemon or whatever.

  • Also running 10.10 from a SSD. AMAZING !

  • Windows can do that!!!

    Nah, just kidding. lt can't.

  • hey can you guys post of a link of things i need to do to optimize 10.10 on an ssd.... currently running 10.10 on my laptop and doing some research on it. i know 10.10 is supposed to be updated to work with ssd's better with trim an all.... just trying to figure out what all i need to do to make the switch.

  • @TheOnion128 zdnet.com/blog/perlow/geek-sheet-a-tweakers-guide-to-solid-state-drives-ssds-and-linux/9190

  • Ubuntu 10.10 and SSD Drive.

Speed just got a new meaning.

  • ok, retested and mine takes 14 seconds counting from right after the POST, with normal HDD. Those guys at ubuntu are amazing.

  • @bv90andy 14sec? what computer? or how u optimize.Any wifi ,bluetooth exist? ors just simple pc with mains parts.I think my laptop can faster if i disable some devices.

  • @sarunasm yea, I was thinking about that. It's a pc so no WIFI and also quite a fresh install, so just a few things installed.also, all drivers are installed. It's an asus mobo M4A77T, Phenom II x2 550, ATI 5750 512Mb, onboard sound and network and my HDD is WD5000AAKS SATA

compiz enabled, codecs installed and some other stuff.

I didn't "optimize" it in any way... Like I said, I was amazed my self when I saw how fast it boots.

  • @sarunasm oh! I forgot to mention, I'm using the 64 bit version (maybe that's important?!) and I have 4GB (2x2) of DDR3@1333 Dual Chanel.

  • @bv90andy my is DDR2 666Mhz 4GB 64 Bit. :)

  • so that's about 12 seconds, counting from right after the post disappears? mine takes 20 seconds and I'm using a normal 7200rpm HDD WD. I would have expected something like 5 seconds when I saw mine boot that fast.

  • it's amazing. my takes about 50s!! I tried some tips for speeding up the boot but doesn't work. do you have a very fast harddisk?

  • @zebrattt This is SSD ,not HDD .Ant 3 times faster than HDD

  • @sarunasm i c. thanks. Canonical claims 10-second boot on a SSD computer.

  • @zebrattt 50S?....slow.

  • wow thats amazing ! I love Ubuntu 10.10

  • ...wow

  • Thats not fast. Windows boots up in the same amount of time on an SSD with 10x more applications. Windows FTW

  • wtf, that's fast.

  • my desktop has a HHD drive and with ubuntu 10.10 boot in 17 sec

  • I like it without the xsplash, usplash or GDM.

  • LOL, that's a 5 second boot (without the BIOS loading)

  • thanks, looks promising i'll give it a try

  • i want it on an ssd tablet

  • how is the battery performance vs windows ?

  • @xSlavic good question. it depends on what you do. I think that there is no difference, it depends on how you set the power saver mode. But with SSD your laptop will work longer than HDD.

  • @xSlavic If anything it's probably going to be slightly better but not by enough for anyone to care about. The SSD is going to have a bigger (positive) affect on battery life than the OS.

  • @Jester995 Here I was trying to show SSD performance .Linux just for fun.U can see another video with windows 7.Ofc battery life longer with ssd

  • @sarunasm Thanks for the suggestion but I've spent enough of my life looking at a WIndows desktop already. I refuse to have anything to do with Windows on religious grounds (Microsoft is an incarnation of Satan).

  • @xSlavic use granola power manager it will save you alot

  • nice, wish I could see other specs though.

  • wow! ok im gonna get an SSD put it in my laptop and load ubuntu up on it now

  • So faaaaaaaaasssssssssssttttttttttt
