  • fast food is rubbish just eat some oats

  • is there a difference? amino acids and proteins are the same. look up on the net and u will find out that proteins are made up of amino acids

  • If I do these, will it burn the fat and tone my calves?

Because I have big calves that just look fat and un-proportional to the rest of my body :(

  • Sorry, you cant do spot fat removal. Please see my video "6-pack abs fast"

  • scooby love your videos it would be best if they came sooner tho but i love your vids

  • 7-12 reps will not build your calves. Calves ain't like other muscles, that's why.

  • Hi again Sir

I am trying to getr my fitness up for joining the TA, BUT I am struggling with my simple mile and a half run, ... my shins burn, i need to find a way around this problem,

ANY advice you can give me is great, i lost 4.5 stone in a year , but i struggle big time with the run, i also seem to let my breathing go in a different direction to my body, haha sounds weird, but trust me its true, i dont get to sync them together, causes many probs when running.

  • If you neglected your body for years then you can't expect it to be fit in a flash. There is no way "around" this problem beside what I already outlined above.

  • I would start with either cycling or swimming till your weight gets down and your shins recover. When you start up running again, do it very slowly. The first week, run 1km then walk for 25min. The second week, run 2km, then walk for 20min. The third week, run 3km then walk for 15min. You get the idea.

  • Hey, Instead of building that step with wood, I simply use a thick, sturdy dictionary and use that as a step. You can also use any other thick hardcover book in my opinion, of course, building that wood step is better overall, but using a book is an easy alternative.

  • Scoob, you strongly emphasize how bad it is to overtrain, and I agree with overtraining killing muscle growth, but something that I don't get is that people like gold olympic gymnast Paul Hamn for the 2004 "Men's ring competition" train doing those weird maneuvers that require a lot of the same muscles to be used over and over, and he trained 6 days a week! How can these people still build so much muscle by overtraining their muscles?

  • Most of a gymnast's training is apparatus training; he repeats the movements over and over to get better at them. For apro this is an endurance and not a resistance training.

The musles they have they do get from resistance training, but they don't do that nearly as often as their apparatus training.

  • You gotta love a man that knows how to hammer his wood.

  • i have big calves but i find it really hard to get big biceps which is so enoying

  • Scooby, you are doing a very good job. You always show how easy and cheap everyone can gain natural way.

Just a remark, I never train my calves in the gym. There we have a machine for calves we have to sit on. The machine sometimes causes muscle convulsions. I'm convinced the calves must be trained with the legs straight. So I do the one-leg calf raises at home. Moreover, on one of your videos on push-ups you inspired me by a backpack, so this is my weight load also at calf raises. ;-)

  • will these calf exercises help against recurring shin splints?

  • If by "shin splints" you mean "medial tibial syndrome", then doing this exercise may mean more stress for your legs, depending on how you exercised them previously.

Which would be the exact opposite of what you should do: Put less stress on them, not more. E.g., instead of running as your cardio activity only fast walking.

If after two to four weeks of lighter exercise the pain still persists you should see a doctor.

  • Love all your vids.

    How about quads and glutes?

Have you ever considered putting these vids on a DVD?

  • I love your video's . Good Job.

  • wt a stupid hat

  • your beaner mom is stupid.

  • Don't post comments if you are going to make racists remarks....

  • 2:23 lol

  • good job scooby, i also have small calves, but as long as i get a workout im find

  • i see that ur posting alot of the chest workouts and they're great but could u also please touch base on the back workouts. i just want to have a balanced figure.

  • he has videos on back go look at his profile

  • THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Ive been looking for good excersices for calves. This video is awesome.

I like how you demolish the stand with the hammer 5/5

  • "This isn't a pogo stick" Excellent!

  • With regards to this guys chest workout advice: You are retarded!!! It's dangerous to do dumbell press alone? haha If you can't drop a dumbell without hurting yourself then you yourself are a dumbell and deserve to dislocate your shoulders.

This guy is jacked, but he is also a tard.

  • (to untainableundies)

u need to gtfo dumb ass.

    safety comes first

  • For your sake, I hope you start paying a bit more attention to safety. Reminds me of a teenager explaining to his parents how he wont get hurt riding a motorcycle because he is so skillful at riding. It doesnt matter how careful you are, accidents happen, and when they do it probably will be somebody elses fault but you get injured just the same.

  • untaintableundies, ur so stupid lol. scooby has more knowledge than urself by far. seriously stop hating ur prolly just jealous cuz scooby has a better body than urs :P btw scooby's reply was mature for an stupid insult, good job scoob n_n

  • I never had a problem with dropping weights. Some people do. You can't speak for everyone. Why go and attempt to insult someone who is doing good for the community? By the way, its "dumbbell" 2 b's there. Thought I'd point that out for ya since you missed that...

  • damn man you rules. thx :D

  • Scoob, your absolutely right, I find that running and occasional cycling is enough to work my calves, I only work them on days in which I the bodyparts still ache from a previous workout and so I concentrate on upper traps, calves, hamstrings and forearms...

  • thkx scooby...this willl help me do workout so they´ll get bigger :D....ur such a great guy...god will pay u ...xD

  • but when i don't have equipments what to do ?

  • edge of stairs work well!

  • When you don't have equipment you build it yourself, which was what the entire second half of this video was about.

  • You have quite the shop scooby.. what do you do for cash?

  • your a great guy scoob... and i finaly realise why the website is called scooby's workshop

  • what is your 5k time scooby?

  • Hey Scooby great work on your videos, I enjoyed all of them. Nice to see a fellow engineer workin in other fields, I am civil enginner beggining to workout :o)

My question is , can I work out to have muscle definition,as I don't want to get very big just to have some muscles in right places , so it would be like plateauing on some point and just preserving that condition? Is that possible, or you just get bigger all the time?

  • ........................yes

  • Hey Nebulozny,

Please check out my website. You are confusing two things that are completely independent. "Muscle Definition" is just a matter of what your bodyfat percentage is, there is no such thing as a weight workout for "muscle definition". If you want your muscles bigger/stronger, then lift weights. If you want to see abs, then eat less and do more cardio.

  • could you please make a forearm excersise video. i really wanna win arm wrestling matches that we have in the gym after school. right now im not very good :(

  • Thanks... Youre Video's Are Very Helpful... Keep up the good work!

  • u rock !

    animal pak ftw :P

  • hi scooby.

i was 97 kg in late july, and i started watching your videos in august and got really motivated, so i got off my ass and started cycling 10-20km 3 times a week and weights after every cycling session, and now im 93.5 kg.

so thanks alot!! i really got inspired by you and your vids

  • Congratulations on sticking to your new fitness program, sounds like it is really working!

  • hey scooby, is it possible if u can do a quick video on some forearm exercises using dumbells please. thx

  • cant you just go for long runs? I went for a 20min rune everyday, and as time passed i increased the speed i ran, and my calf muscles gone bigger, duno but it worked for me lol

  • or shld i juz increase the reps?

  • Start with pushups for about a year then go on to benchpress, flys, and military press for major chest gains. Military press is for the upper chest. Also works the shoulders. Would be nice if you could make a video of proper form military press, scooby. For the people who don't know the proper form out there. I've found it to be a very useful movement.

  • i don't get soreness from 30pushup 1st set then 25 for nxt set and 25 for the last set with good form. anyone can tell mi what other exercise i can do for my chest muscle. oya im onli 14 yr old.

  • DaMn yOu kIlLEd tHaT 2X4....

    GOOD WORKOUSTZZ

    KEEP EM COMING...

  • its true, my friend never worked out a day in his life and he has massive calves, biceps, triceps, forelegs, delta, abs, and forearms, but he doesn't have pecs. good thing that i do. thanks a lot scooby for your vids.

  • why dont you put ads on your website you have a pretty good website traffic. almost 10,000 people everyday. If I had that much traffic I would been making good amount money with that.

  • I pride my website on being advertisement free. I dont want to give any impression that I promote any product. If I start accepting ads, its a slippery slope till I become a supplement pusher like every other fitness website out there.

  • Thanks scooby! I really enjoy your vids.I can't wait for the other leg vids.

As far as the 6pack nutrition vid...what about when you go out to eat with family and you can't see nutrition info on the menu?what do you look for? And how far will one or two bad meal a week set me back??

  • Aha, but you CAN see the nutritional info at fast food restaurants! Just ask them for a nutritional pamphlet, virtually all the fast food restaurants have them. Look for entrees with the lowest #grams fat. For example, Taco Bell has their "Fresco Style" items which are all much lower in fat than their other options. If the restaurant doesnt have a low-fat menu then choose normal items but have them leave off ALL sauces and cheeses (except catchup and mustard). Mayo and special sauce kill

  • there was a girl named emily ive argued alot with my father and oine day my dad came home pissed because he lost his job and he stabbed me in the neck then threw me in a well now im trying to haunt him but i cant find him so im hoping u can help me find him post this onto 10 videos or ill be waiting at the edge of your bed waiting until u go to sleep...a kid thought this was dumb but the next day his parents found there son dead in the bathtub with the neck slit open drowned

  • Hey scooby, That burrito you eat with salmon was good. I thought it will make me throw up but i ate two burritos... I guess i liked it a lot lol. but I know i am suppose to eat in portions so i will be careful not to eat more then one... Correct me if i am wrong

    Zak

  • hey, I've been watching your videos for a long time now, seen every single one and enjoyed each and every one of them. I was just wondering with no relevance to this video but, what is your max bench and curl. I'm pretty sure other most of your other fans would like to know. please reply. Thankyou:)

P.S. Great videos keep it up!!

  • I dont bench press, havent done it in decades. When I'm doing heavy weight/low rep which is about one month a year, I use 115lb dumbbells on the incline dumbbell press but the rest of the year I do much lighter. Bicep curls same story, when going heavy about 70lbs curls but the rest of the time 45-50lbs.

  • HUUAH!!!!!1

  • Thanks for the advice Scooby, great video. A Question I never got to ask on one of your Chest Fly video's, what is the point of tightening your Abs, and would you want to do it on any other exercises (apart from abs haha)

  • On virtually every exercise I keep the abs tight and the thighs at 90 degrees to the torso for maximum lower back support.

  • has anyone else noticed that on many of his videos it says "for experienced bodybuilders" ..... now i am an amateur builder and probably half his age but i have more mass and am more defined and notice that this guy lifts pretty light weights to have such awesome experience as he claims.... i mean don't get me wrong he has a good build but in all honesty his shit is fucking weak man

  • If you would do the slow, controlled form he advocates, you would find you can't lift as much weight, as you won't take Newton with you on every curl.

In his videos Scooby usually also uses light weights so that he can be sure the form he shows is perfect.

  • i know and didn't mean it for this video the ones i wanted to post that comment on were all disabled when it came to comments... but i understand what you are saying and i guess that makes sense.... i'm just so used to being around the big guys that throw the big weights along with myself but can see where you are coming from and agree.... Much Respect.

  • No problem, maybe you give it a try sometime. And don't be awed by the guys throwing the weights around. Sometimes what they do looks more like bowling than weightlifting ;)

  • On the vids I say "For experienced BBers" its because a beginner could easily injure themselves doing it. About the weights I use in the vids 1) I dont pretend to be a powerlifter 2) As mentioned before I use strict form 3) Often in the vids, I'm not actually working out but just illustrating how to do it 4) Many times by the time I get a good take, I've been lifting for hours and am completely drained.

  • wow, this is awesome

  • I have a question, I know you say workout like 3 days a week but if i don't do anything all day everyday except workout can i still burn fat and gain muscle if I workout 5-6 days a week? or is that bad for my muscles?

  • To lose fat a cardio activity is way more important than lifting weight.

  • Not true at all.

  • Ok, you get an example: A male, 25 years old, 6 ft, 180 lbs burns app. 270 cal during half an hour of heavy resistance training, but about 335 cal when running for the same amount of time.

Given that an overweight beginner in weightlifting won't be able to do very heavy exercises, the disparity toward running should be even greater.

  • Another quality delivery. Well done, Scooby.

  • ey scooby i guess you now have two devices? may i have one .. ? ;-)

    great vids! learnd alot!

  • im glad u said its genetics cus my legs are really skinny yet im biult all over and i work out alot and because you are on your feet all the time i train them more. so thanks scooby

  • lol omg when you were sawing and talking about limiting range of motion, lol damn that was good

  • Scooby earlier in one of your videos did you say you do 120 min of cardio each day and 60min weight training?

I do 40min jogging everyday and I was thinking about adding 40min in morning. Do you think it would be over training doing that 7 days a week? I also weight train 40min each day. So 80min cardio divided into 2 and 40min weight train total.

  • This can work, but (!) you would have to diversify your workouts so that each bodypart gets enough rest. To diversify the workouts enough, you would probably have to do exercises not designed for beginners, which could be a problem, if you are a beginner.

And you can also overtrain through jogging, if you always push yourself very hard doing it.

Personally I like to take 1-2 days/week off to rest, which also keeps my motivation up, as after the breaks I look forward to the workouts again.

  • You can usually do them on your stairs if you have a two story house or porch/deck as well =]

  • As Scooby said, stairs might not be ideal. You can slip, they dont limit your range of motion and it's harder balance yourself with a dumbbell in your hand.

  • thanks for this video scooby.

can you make an lower chest video?

  • this is a good idea...a video specifically directed at the lower chest..one body point which I am lacking also...very hard to train area. Can ya do it Scoob?

  • Unless you are a BB pro and have been lifting for two decades you should not be 'targeting' any particular part of your chest, you should be doing a complete chest workout program and giving every exercise 110%. Please see my last chest video (Incline Dumbbell Press)

  • Would it be alright to use a backpack to hold the weights for calf raises?

  • In my opinion this should work, if you make sure that you use a wall to balance yourself and keep your back in a natural position.

  • You could use the same weighted backpack that you use for my "backpack pushups"! Dual purpose. Its a great idea, thank you. Its a bit safer too because the load is more centralized and both hands are free to balance.

  • Can't you just use the steps in your house instead of making that stand?

  • As Scooby said, stairs might not be ideal. You can slip, they dont limit your range of motion and it's harder balance yourself with a dumbbell in your hand.

  • great video scooby

  • great video. it is good you did this video on calves. we need to be proportioned. by the way i have small calves, genes, but that just mean i need to work harder than others to get the results i want.

and your calves are definitely not small. they may not be as beg as you want but they are not small.

  • Hey scooby are what are your opinions for P90X ?

  • I don't know what Scooby's opinion is, but a program that promises "getting ripped" within 90 days to anyone, which would have to include the 220 lbs guy, is to me not credible.

  • Are u married scooby?

  • I usually do this on the edge of the stairs and use the wall to balance.

haha, p.s. I like the hammering of the nails.

    Thanks Scooby

  • Hey Scooby, great video. Like yourself, my calves are genetically challenged. One exercise that can help out are reverse calf raises. I've found my tibia responds very well to training and gives the appearance of much thicker calves. You probably already know this but just thought I'd pass along in case. Thanks for putting these videos together.

  • good job man. nice video i like your videos.

  • Hey highfive scooby! you are great.

Nice home you have, is that a in-house garden you have?, woow!

  • No, its just a patio cover.

  • Thank you for your videos, they've really helped me alot!

It would be nice to see you do some wrist extensor moves.

  • to be honest i dont wanna be like arnold or that dude with the bicep what bust i think the main thing is to have a body which is toned and healthy not these massive biceps and vains poppping out of ur skin

  • Rest assured, you'd have a hard time becoming Arnold. Even Arnold had a hard time becoming Arnold.

  • but really, who wants to be like arnold at age 14? not me :)

  • i do

  • yeh but u havre a pic of hitler and a swachstica or however you spell it on your page lol

  • who is arnold?

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger, aka the Terminator, aka Conan the Barbarian aka the Governator.

  • Sup scooby im 14 been lifting for about a year not heavy weights my biceps are pretty good i have a layer of fat covering my abs and my chest is good too ur vids have really helped since iv found them thanks alot :D

  • Hey scooby! what do you do for a living you got one hell of a workshop lol

  • haha i love the comedy you incorportated in this video, scoobs

  • when i started to train calfs i trained 6 days a week with donkey calf raises, seated calf raises and bodyweight standing calf raises. all to failure on every set, intense and stretch between every set. this for me i found to be best - calf's responded very well, picked up lot stretchmarks where they got grew so fast.

  • Obviously good genetics!

  • yeah i lucked out there tho my calfs aren't all that much these days, had an arch collapse an a load of pain to go with it - really affected my leg trainin tho reckon i'll be good to train again now just need to stop being so lazy :O) everything else is fine but its easier for me to neglect my legs.

anyway, keep posting dude! good luck

  • Yeah the helicopter is for benchpressing, he couldn't find anything else heavy enough.

  • LOL :)

  • Is that a helicopter in the background of your workshop?

  • Actually it's his MiG 29 Fulcrum. He uses it to sneak up on people who do flyes with hyperextended joints.

  • Another great video Scooby, it's just a shame my email alerts for when you add new videos seem to be a little late :(

  • hey you know on the main youtube page if you click " Customize your homepage" you can make it so there is this little area where it shows if he posted a new video. when you go on customize click "Latest from Subscriptions"

  • Keep up the great videos scooby. You're great!

  • I'm glad he showed me where my calf is.

  • Not all the people who view my videos speak english, youtube is international :) In the past I have gotten numerous questions about "what is a pec" etc.

  • hey, i'm 14 and has a weight of 43kg, i'm quite skinny though. i have been training for a month. my friend told mi that if i wanna build up i nid to gain weight 1st becox i'm vr skinny. i'm wondering if building muscle play apart in overall mass of body? or i need to gain weight 1st be4 i build up?

  • hey well i was also that skinny at your age but the best age to work out is when your 16 so i would sugest you eat alot of rice noodles fish and 1 litter of milk a day it will help alot for atleast 1 month then start working out ull have muscles in no time. peace

  • First of all, you are only 14 and I think its too early to lift weights. For the next couple of years do lots of research so that when you DO start lifting weights you will not hurt yourself or waste your time. Of course, you should start with my website in your research :)

  • No, you don't need to gain weight before you start working out. You should gain weight through letting your muscles grow.

But at 14, as Scooby said, you are a little on the early side, as you just entered puberty. If I were you I would start with exercises where you just use your own bodyweight (pushups, crunches, pullups etc.) and combine them with a good sport for general fitness and body coordination, like soccer or tennis. You will need that coordination later on.

  • Scooby: I really appreciate the thought to demonstrate how to make a cheap, safe effective calf raise stand, but I'll give that one a miss myself- Me + Hammer + Nails + Glue+ Saw Blade = trip to casualty (ER) Unfortunately my DIY skills leave a lot to be desired :o( But

  • I thought about using my band saw and my pneumatic power nailer but decided to use the tools that my viewers would- good thing, you'd have got REALLY injured.

  • yep another great workout man i love ur workouts always do them and get results i always used the calf raises for hops in basketball anyways im thinking of donating some money thru ur site :D

  • another great vid scooby,.thanks for taking the time........

  • dp proteins shake make your penis shrink?>

  • no lol and i read steroids dont either... steroids just make your balls shrink but then again this is just what i read. but protein shake doesn't thats for sure.

  • Well, yes, shrinking testicles (testicular atrophy) can occur, in some cases leading to permanent infertility.

And that is just one side effect of their use, beside severe acne, high blood pressure, aggressive behavior and a whole lot more.

  • Nope. Your penis shrinks when you are cold. Too much protein (more than 1g per lb of bodyweight) can cause liver and kidney problems.

  • Nyohttekotte and Evilcyber hit the nail squarely on the head again. Listen to them folks!

  • im gonna be like scooby when im older, muscley, gnomes, plane in the garage.. the lot!!

  • anyone seen the palin vid?

  • Good Video, Thanks for the info!

  • next up: "Scooby's Wood Workshop" where you learn how to build stuff yourself

  • he built his own air plane in his garage : D scooby's the shit. nothing beats his advice and workouts.

  • hey can someone tell me what brand of dairy whey protein scooby used in his ab nutrition video for the recipe that is dry oats + dairy whey powder? There are so many whey protein out and I dont know which one to get. I want this recipe because i work 11 hours a day and 4 days a week so I have to have a quick meal in backup if i cant eat something else thats good

  • You want Isolate Whey Protein, brand isn't a big deal. No fat, No sugar. Branched chain amino acids are good you want them in the Whey Protein. check your nutrition label

  • Check out my website under Nutrition>ProteinPowder to see links to the kind I like using. I like 100% natural stuff but if you want cheaper stuff and dont mind artificial flavors and sweeteners you can get cheap protein powder at costco.

  • oh and another question.

Scooby when did u start bodybuilding + do you workout at the gym or do you do all your workouts at home?

  • what the heck are you building in there!?

  • yes scooby but crunches work yuor upper abs not your lower ones i wont to no how to get rid of the lower ab buldge thx

  • only cardio and diet reduce the buldge over the lower abs.

  • Hey. How are you? I l am in Florida, in US. You have always great videos. I totally appreciate them. . I am starving for healthy snacks all the time. What would u suggest, as far as filling, protein or fiber ratio high? I really need specific items . You can send to my inbox . Thank you

  • You might want to check Scooby's website under Nutrition. There's a bunch of suggestions.

  • do you think its okay for me to be working out every day, when im only 14? i just turened 14 about a month ago

  • You dont need to workout every day.

Also, as your 14, just stick to pushups / situps / chinups / pullups and light resistance work. Resistance bands would be good..

  • ya i have no access to resistance bands.

i also heard that your body needs 24 hours of rest after working out

so on one day i do legs next day i do upper body.

so im basicly getting 48 hours of rest for each muscle

  • Personally I think you are too young to be lifting weights at all, I'd rather see you playing soccer, basketball or skateboarding.

  • i play hockey. i just like to build muscle.

  • As Skleevan and Scooby said, do exercises where you use your own bodyweight (pushups, pullups, crunches etc.). And playing hockey is cool, as a good cardio activity is at least half the way to a great body.

  • Thanx scooby.

all through the summer i used your videos to help me, but i wasnt getting the results i wanted because i didnt have the right equiptment. but now that i have a gym membership i know what im doing when i go to free weights.

so i just wanted to say thank you

  • Thanks a lot!!

I used to rest the barbell on my traps and do the raises, but sometimes it got me dizzy becuase of the lack of circulation to my head!

    jajaja lol

Thanks a lot for this video!!

  • i would like more leg workouts so this is a good start however i already do these. would like some hamstrings and glutes workouts coz i dont really know any good ones. thanks in advance! good vids!

  • Give me a few months and I will get thru the leg vids. I want to do leg extensions next.

  • However i plateued for a while, and that mixed with work commitments meant i lay down the weights for almost a year, im now in a position where i can dedicate myself to a routine again and am looking forward to using your site for guidance and techniques. Your doing an excellent job, thanks, keep it up, and good luck for the future! G

  • Hi Scooby, couldent see an email link on your site so thought i would pass by here. I wish i knew about your site when i first started working out 2 years ago, i went religious with it, no caffiene very little fats, only consuming benificial foods, i worked out hard and took every product under the sun, i got great results, 25 pounds in 3 months or so ( i was 6'3 and 130 pounds before!!!)....

  • Thanks for another great video Scooby.

  • Is It good to wear ankle weights throughout the day? Someone told me It can be bad for your joints. But I don't know.

  • MrBenAlan: I wouldn't recommend wearing ankle weights while walking or running, and especially not during any kind of aerobics or kicking workout, because it alters the biomechanics of the leg (the way it moves and the forces on it), which can cause injury. For athletics, a weighted vest is a better alternative- the added weight is distributed evenly over your upper body and doesn't have those risks, but for general fitness or calorie burn try taking the stairs a few extra times a day instead.

  • I completely agree with sexomaticveganfreak, I would not recommend ankle weights at all.

  • thanks scooby

  • I do The easy workout untill i feel a burn, then i stop, then 1 minute break, and over again untill I cant do anymore, i think by 5 days my legs are ready again.

  • scooby ur a ledgend.thanks for the vids

  • Thanks for the vid scooby. Your videos are an inspiration. I hope you make a hamstring and quads video someday.

  • Yep they are coming. Quads is going to be last as I'm having knee issues.

  • nice videos . good job.

  • thanks for this! and looking forward to the whole leg workout series as I have chicken legs!

  • Great video Scoob! As always methodical and sensible. Can't wait for the rest of your leg exercises - do you think Hans will make it through them all?

  • rbresca: Hans will be fine- he has a highly trained stunt double.
