  • The eyepiece is not moved because it is a reflector (for example a Schmidt-Cassegrain has the eyepiece at the end), it is because it is a Newtonian reflector.

  • Thanks for this video, for a moment we thought it was backwards!! we bought it without a manual!! Thanks again.

  • @ epicfantasy : Hi, can you give me any advice on where to buy these mirrors ? How much would an 8" f4.5 mirror cost roughly ? any used ones (cheaper) ? Thanks

  • @Metalloys That will make a nice telescope. great nebulae viewing. Probably cost around 200 new. And ebay has a reputable company that sells them called Hubble Optics. Also, there are a few forums that have lots of telescope stuff for sale. try a site called astromart. Good luck and keep me posted on your telescope project. Would love to hear about it!!

  • i have a Nexstar 130 the mirror is dirty, are there a special way to clean...

  • @dlegeant77 yes, you have to be careful cleaning the telescope mirror. There are some good tutorials out there. Usually it's very mild soapy water and no rubbing on the mirror with anything. Do a search to find a step by step. I will be doing a tutorial on mirror cleaning though.

  • I have a 5 inch meade reflector, I know, its a cheapo. I actually was sent a much more expensive telescope, but sent it back as i didn't pay for it. This scope has been sitting in my living room for 4 years collecting dust. I have been moved into the country and now have an amazing view with almost no light pollution. I looked into the lens hole without a lens piece and the mirror is obviously dirty. How do I clean this? I am a simpleton, please help.

  • @story3 Nie, The 5 inch meade is a good telescope. And very nice work on sending back the more expensive scope - it was the right thing to do. There are some good tutorials for cleaning mirrors. Usually they use just a light soapy water. Check for a video tut. I will be doing one as soon as I can , but will probably be weeks from now.

  • i have a tele much like yours...and i find stars but i see the reflector mirror for the eye peice covering the star. how do i fix???

  • @houser422 hmm, sounds like something is not quite right. Do you have an eyepiece for the telescope? Could also mean that the mirror in the back needs aligning, could be off just a little bit.

  • @epicfantasy A fantastic video, extremely helpful and informative. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to help out noobies like me.

  • Thank you for posting your very informative and important video. You have a fine example of a Criterion 6" f/8 RV-6 Dynascope. I own two of those, one in Newe York and one in New Mexico. It is an excellent "Grab and Go" telescope that provides fine views of many astronomical objects. While far too small to obtain useful spectra, it is suitable for astrophotography, particularly when coupled with the camera holder that Criterion sold. You can occasionally find one on Ebay

  • How much did that scope cost you?

  • I bought it at least 20 years ago and I think it cost around 300 dollars.

  • woop woop! im getting a Sylvan Reflector on Thursday! :)

  • NIce! Congratulations. You are going to have some fun. I hope there are no clouds thursday night !!

  • cheers

  • hey, i have a celestron telescope, (alot smaller then yours) it should give decent quality but it's terrible and you can see better with the naked eye. any suggestions/ tips to make it work? i think i may have assembled it wrong and i dont have a manual.

  • Hmm, Celestron makes wonderful telescopes. Maybe you did assemble it wrong. What kind of scoope is it? Reflector or refractor? I can help. Do you have a pic of it? We will troubleshoot your telescope and get it working right!

  • It is a reflector telescope. Powerseeker 127, Model #21049. I just took some pictures of it, how should I send them to you? You wouldn't happen to have msn would you? Thanks alot for all your help though!

  • Try going to celestron's youtube channel (orangetube). They have a video on how to set up the PS 127.

  • Your telescope probably need collimination -- that is proper alignment of the large rear (lower) mirror and smaller front (upper) mirror. This can be tricky for a beginner. You may be best to take the scope to an astronomy store and have them align the mirrors. There are a number of articles on the internet to learn how to do collimination when your mirrors become misaligned in the future.

  • Dude that's a Criterion RV6!!!! My wife and I are in the process of restoring\upgrading one of those. Even though they're an older scope and are highly sought after because they have excellent optics, even by today's standards. Maybe we'll post pics when ours is finished. Thanks!

  • Nice! You have got to send me pictures!!!

so i can post them on my telescopenerd website :)

  • you r the man i have had this telescope here for a yeat now i now how to use it

  • Thanks for watching! Glad that I can help :) The way an equatorial telescope moves is rather peculiar and takes getting used to! Have fun with it. Check out my video on taking star photos too! Going to be doing a star pics with a telescope video soon !

  • thank the lord for people like you who are nice enough to make videos like this.

i have an assignment for science and i have to build one of those. :)

  • Thankyou! I really love telescopes and astronomy. Hopefully I can help others to enjoy it too :)

  • I need to know something- is a Meade DS-2000 Refracting telescope a good or bad one? what do I do to get picture like this on it?

  • Hi, Meade makes good telescopes of high quality. So it is definitely a good telescope, but it is hard to determine what is good for you. Everybodys goals and wants are different. Will this be your first telescope?

  • Cool. Is your scope an f/8?

  • Yup, The telescope is a 6" F/8. I have had it a long time and still enjoy it!

  • yeah great telescope

    reflector with long focal lenght

    good compromise

  • Cool, the scope in the video is a 6" reflector too. Thinking about getting a larger one?

  • nice telescope! i have a 6" reflector
