I crashed my TL1000R in July on a rainy night. Rebuilt it within 6 weeks with an updated power commander and K&N air filter. The old Widowmaker myth about this bike and its' cousin the TL1000S hold true! Be careful on those wet sweepers!
I fell in love with the tlr when i first heard it. anyone who wants to compare performance between old bikes is losing sight of whats really important. that is what do you personally like. I grew up on 7/11s, zx9rs,fire blades, yzfs and fzrs. The power/performance/grip/suspension of the 00s an 10s are far beyond what you could put to the limit on the street (unless drag racing of course) so my advice is to quit thinking about every little detail and have fun.
Freightrain the tlr is a faster and more powerful bike then the rc51 but on handling the Honda is better it depends on what you want the bike if you drag or like wheelies tlr or if you race on track rc51 but if you change the suspension on the Tl gameover
I have a 98 750cc, trade for a (any year, running, riding) TL1000R, depends on condition. Let me know what you got. I live in the North East Area. Dont ask where unless you have what im looking for.
I JUST got a 1998 TLR. Been my dream bike for ages now. Its fully polished and matte black. Sick. I look forward to ripping the hell outta her shortly. Thanks for the vid. It's making me anxious.
I used to ride Fireblade but now I own TL1000R and have to say ..... wow, my first ride was scary. I didn't like it , i didn't like this bike either. But as longer i own this bike I start to undestand this brilliant machine more and enjoy even more then ever before. Fantastic "street fighter" if I can say that, not as fast as Blade but man, this bike is just a killer. One error and You lick the ground. BTW, gr8 video m8
My advice to the noobs who said vtr is better is to google first BEFORE give any opinion. TLR has the same hp but has MORE torque at LOWER REV than the vtr spX. by the way...sp1 and sp2 have the same engine, don't expect to have a better engine just because it's a pseudo evolution.
@RATADATUAVELHA there was engine tweeks to the sp2 motors that gave it more hp n smoother power delivery.im a suzuki lover own a gsxr 1000.sp2,rc51 is better then the tlr,it takes more money n effort to make a tlr perform right.ive ridden both alot,it is what it is.
@freightrain808 it's your opinion and a very foggy opinion...put radiators a side of the bike and you still say it's better? that must be a joke...at least TLR didn't need of a #2 version to erase some bugs and create anothers...
@RATADATUAVELHA opinion?what championship did the tlr win?oh thats right it never did lol.ducati n honda rc51 won titles on the track.numbers dont lie,you n i both know the tlr stock rear suspention sucked lol.guys that own tlr that are honest admitt the bike has many flaws n that they put money into it 2 get it to perform up 2 par.dont be salty?the tlr looks wicket n is a suzuki witch is awsome, but its not better then the rc 51.
@freightrain808 My advice to the noobs who said vtr is better is to google first BEFORE give any opinion. TLR has the same hp but has MORE torque at LOWER REV than the vtr spX. by the way...sp1 and sp2 have the same engine, don't expect to have a better engine just because it's a pseudo evolution. at least TLR didn't need of a #2 version :) mine has 82K kilometers. oh vtr is way much better I forgot that!!
@RATADATUAVELHA so your saying improveing a bike or anything 4 that matter is bad?thats stupid.they improved the rc51 with engine tweeks, suspention up grades ect.they should have improved the tlr, everything n anything can be improved or tweeked.
@freightrain808 no, what you said is stupid. get your own opinion instead making others YOUR opinion. every noob, excluding very few, say the same "vtr is better", and then I ask "why?", no one can answer because...they simply say what others say. I have a TL1000R and I couldn't be more proud of my bike. vtr owners make a huge effort to not look to my bike wether it's in move or side stand. wake up please...there's life before vtr...
@RATADATUAVELHA lol your dumb?since i have an opinion that others agree on,that means its not my own opinion?lol really.ive heard people say they love their tlr ect ect,so get your own opinion too buddy!thers life b4 tlr lol.your dumb.
@RATADATUAVELHA you use words like donkey n omfg n you telling me to grow up really?as for your comment were you said your proud of your bike,so what?i know guys proud of their fzr600,cbrf2,does that make their bikes badass?your dumb.
@RATADATUAVELHA its funny what v twin shoot out did the tl1000r ever beat the sp2 or any of the other v twins 4 that matter?exactly!everyone knows the stock suspention sucks on the tl.out the box stock vs stock the rc 51 performs better.face reality b ro.
@freightrain808 ive owned 2 tlr,s 1 firestorm and an sp1 , all bikes have suspension that caters for road use, bumps pot holes etc, but as a road and track rider i can tell you that if you set up std suspension to your weight , style of riding and conditions, there is no problem with the tlr. also in the thundersport series at cadwell a tl1000r took a ducati 1198 to the cleaners. i dont think you even have a bike and you read too many magazines...
@stevenobleuk ive been riding for 12 years now since 2000 at 19 years old.ive owned suzuki bandit 400 to get my feet wet.then a yzf600r,then 02r6,03gsxr750.02gsxr1000,n now im on a 03rc51 cuz i wanted to try the v twin game.i never said the tlr was a bad bike?stock vs stock the rc51 suspention is better.you dont think i have a bike lol!2000-2006 i only rode i didnt even have a car,so i think i have the right to speak about bikes!12years in the game my friend.honest truth.
I have never owned and SP2 but I think the TL and SP are of the same breed. They were only produced for a limited number of years and are harder to come by in good condition now days. My only concern with buying a honda is the price you will pay for parts. Both bikes are far from the fastest now days but you dont need to be when you have after market cans on a twin and a sound that demands attention through the city streets. :)
i think the rc 51 has more power because they were made in production specifically for the power for racing were as the tl was more for street power but there pretty close and each is an awsome example of a sweet v twin rocket
Awesome Vid dude, ive always been a fan of V-twin bikes, my first was a superhawk, and then i fell in love with a buddys TL1000R, i recently went to the dark side of 600cc 4 bangers, and i realized how much i love and miss v-twins. Currently in the process of selling the R6 and picking up and Aprilia RSV1000R!! I'll post some vids up, good to know others love v-twin sport bikes like i do...
Well.. I'm a TLR lover.. but you will have to consider how much you want to spend. Are you just cruising or do you want a full sport? Do you like v-twins? If your after something a little more relaxed but still with plenty of punch I would go for a SV.
You never know what Suzuki may have up their sleeve. I hope that they're thinking about bringing back a new version of the TL bike but with a new twist. I never liked the design of the Busa' and I still don't like the new Busa, especially that ugly ass B-King. Since Suzuk has done away with the SV1000 colors, they should make a new V-Twin sportbike.
it would never be the same i fear. First off it couldnt have anything to do with the tl engine, and would have to be a new engine from ground up. The tl is the one and only unfortunately that its essence would be hard to capture again. but here's to dreaming...
suzuki stopped making this bike back in 2003 so its really hard to find parts anywhere for it. the fact that most guys totaled theirs & junked it makes it that much more difficult. my dad just recently sold his 98 tlr & i tell u man it was the hardest thing to watch that guy ride away on it. i dont think there will ever be a bike built to match the tlr. god i miss that bike
Sounds like your on a winner. Not the fastest bike on the street anymore but still has heaps of punch and you don't get one to be the fastest. Get some after-market cans if it hasn't already got some and watch the heads turn as the Mighty TLR thumps down the street.

a grown man cried when this bike was sold for 2500 dollars. just over eight thousand mi. and never dropped. exhaust upgrades among other things. i could not believe my dad sold it. i was pissed for two weeks when i found out. my favorite bike of all times.
the bass from my subwoofer is going crazy alone from the TL exhaust almost makes me wanna get rid of my GSXR. . . . . . NAW not jus yet great bike tho'
Sick clip dude, that last bit with the 'walking on the moon music' looked like something off the Suzuki website when the bike was still new. Back when it had more power and torque than the top of the range Ducati's. Now those pussies need 1200cc to compete.

Been riding since the Seventies and this is one of the all time best bike engines "ever" produced...Im putting one into a 916 and its nearly finished...cant wait to ride it....the TLS is my favourite....just wish Suzuki would make a TL 1200 RR ! .
Look forward to seeing it up on youtube when your done. I cant find anyone on the net who has successfully place a turbo on an R or S? If you know of anyone let me know.. I may have a little spare cash early next year :)
I have one of these Monsters. Today it was hard putting it away for the winter, but I got to take her for a quick spin even though I froze my ass off! its hard to go slow in this bike! I'm in Love and will miss my baby. BOHOO!!!
I owned this bike and it is my favorite out of the six that I have owned. Took it to Laconia bike rally in 2000 and it was a pleasure on the highway, comfortable and the V-twin sound was pleasing contrast to my buddies four cylinder motorbikes.
Downside was the small gas tank , three gallons, and the frame used to burn the inside of my leg otherwise great bike.
Bought A TL1000R in 2001, loved it... Got divorced in 2003 and had to sell it. Saved for nearly five years, and bought another. Still scares the pants off me, but I love it to bits. What A Machine!!!
That's why I'm keeping my 1997 TL1000s ,I know I'd regret selling it . Too much fun , had it about 5 years now. I've ridden a Ducati 916 and I gotta say I like My TL better
This is the original V-Twin Super Bike, i own one, screw busas and all the other bikes, they are all played out, everyone has one, but this one is a legendary bike, by the way, i think TLS suck.
going 4rm a gixxer6 2 a tiller 1000r,torque-torque-torque,pitty they stopped production, hope it comes back 1day like the zx10 did, get ur finger out ur a##e suzuki- go back to the drawing board, get it up & running again:-(
the brutal power of theses tls will leave your head spinning, he who dare to ride without a dampener on one of these will undrestand why they where re-called to have them fitted
I have a Yellow 98 TLR, best bike I've ever owned. Stonking engine, loads of character excellent handling... test drive one and you'll buy one! They are getting a bit rare now
