  • @ThereShouldbe

На сопках Манчжурии - The Hills of Manchuria

It's about the Battle of Mukden during Russo-Japanese War(1904-1905), if I'm not mistaken.

  • I am korean... But i think russia is1000000000000times better than us

  • @Sasilmin I respect Koreans i am from Kazakhstan i am Russian you r wright about U.S this country is weird i live in NY 12 years i know.

  • Each time I listen to this music, I imagine what the Soviet people must have suffered during the Nazi invasion. I hope Russia and the U.S. will be good friends.

  • @ThereShouldbe Вальс "На сопках Маньжурии"

  • Russian/Soviet audiances are the best!

  • @Zemelka567 ..... it is the measure of their heart and soul that counts. I do not know what kind of man Mr. Hvorostovsky is, but I know that on stage, when he is singing, he opens his heart and you can hear the voice of love and compassion in his every note. Thank you for translating. I must look and see if you done any other of the songs I love of his on YouTube. So, Mr.? Ms. Zemelka.... I bow to you and your generosity helping share the deep heart-secrets of the Russian soul.

  • @Zemelka567 I dare say, he will go down in musical history as one of the greatest singers ever--of any age. He has it all! He is a "beautiful" man, if one can say that. Very "manly" and very ruggedly handsome. And that silver hair. wow. the man has it all..... super star looks and super musical abilities. I'm hooked on the guy! And to me, what is the measure of a man or woman, no matter what they do ..... singer, writer, ditch digger, worker.....

  • ---- that bind your people together. And, it makes me realize that we in the U.S. have never had such a catastrophe befall our people. So looking at those men and women, some weeping, some with moist eyes riveted on Dmitri--all were moved to the point of heart-explosion. And this man... he is a superb artist. I know. I used to teach voice (singing). And I was a fair opera singer in my day. But this man. He is in a class all by himself.

  • ----when I see these older audience members--filled with memories of terrible times during the Great War, and how nearly every family was touched by that cruel assault on your Motherland. the people's faces were telling me something profound and heart-breaking was being sung by that handsome young man. And your translation just "blew me away". It speaks of matters of human loss, the myriad strands of memory that bind your people together.

  • @Zemelka567 ------for translating the moving and poignant lyrics of "The Hills of Manchuria". As you can imagine, finding a translation is almost impossible. I want to learn this song. I would sing it in Russian. Even so, it is important for any singer who claims to have a heart and soul MUST know what he is singing about. I watch the audience as Dmitri sings this (and other) poignant, heart-felt songs that everyone in the audience knows, and I cry-----

  • @Zemelka567 Dear Mr? Ms? Zemelka, My name is Steve Smith. I live in the Dear Mr? Ms? Zemelka, My name is Steve Smith. I live in the U.S. I am an old singer (not too old, but old enough!). And I have fallen in love with this tremendous talent, Mr. Hvoroskovsky. He is without a doubt the finest baritone/basso-cantabile I have EVER heard, and I've lived for 60 years and I have heard a lot of singers. I must call you Zemelka (forgive me)..... but Zemelka, I want to thank you so much-----

  • This is NOT a Soviet song.

  • then if your so smart share your knowlege with us

  • Oh, my dear - you don't have to be very smart to know that the Russo - Japanese war (about whose heroes this song sings) took place before the bolsheviks seized power.

  • Comment removed

  • sapocancionero is right, this song was from way back 1905, before the 1917 revolution

  • Слава и вечна памјат Црвеној армији!!!

    Живела наша мајка Русија!!!

  • 7. Sleep, our sons, Eternal memory is your reward! No, the Russian land, our motherland, Shall not be taken away by the enemy. 8. Its night, its calm. Only kaoliang is rustling[1] Rest in peace, heroes, you memory Is preserved by your motherland. [1] kaoliang - Tall grass common in Manchuria
  • 5.

    You fell for Russia,

    You fell for your fatherland.

The Russian people will avenge you

And will celebrate a bloody wake.

    6.

    Dear mother is shedding tears,

    The young wife is weeping

    All like one are crying,

    Cursing fate, cursing destiny.

  • 3.

It was not a cannot shot

It was a thunder clap from afar.

And again, its quiet around us

All is silent in the nocturnal calm

    4.

    Sleep, warriors,

    Sleep and rest in peace,

May you dream of the native meadows,

    Your fathers far-away home.

  • The Hills of Manchuria 1. Around us, it is calm. Gloom has descended to earth, The hills of Manchuria are drowning in the dark The cloud conceals the East. 2. You see the crosses? Heroes here repose. Wind sings them its song And stars look down on them
  • Face it! He's got a lot to be arrogant about.

  • Wow WOw WOw...AMazing. ANd is that Baskov at 2:26? Looks like he has some to learn still))

  • I'm not familiar with Russian folksongs but this sounds pretty good. Dmitri looks pretty good, too ;)

  • Hvorostosky´s version of this traditional Russian song - which predates the revolution - is truly outstanding!

  • hey i have question were i can get text for this

    song?

  • HVOROSTOVSKY IS THE BEST!

  • HE IS THE BEST. SCORES AND MICS!!! that's too much. It's a huge concert hall I guess so...ok. The best but the most arrogant. thanks to the orchestra too, you fuck.

  • Why arrogant?

  • Looking back at it, actually I meant excessively proud, which is not that surprising given the world success that he has. It's also harder to find fame as a baritone than a tenor or soprano. I just see his excessive pride in his behaviour, in the fact he does not recognize the orchestra very much, and in several interviews of him on youtube.

  • Yeah,real klass,but why so marcato?....Excellent ,though;)

  • you know what the song is about, right? how can you sing it otherwise?

  • Dmitri is blessed with a magnificent voice!

He is a great artist! a great interpreter!

  • ВОТ ЭТО ВЗГЛЯД И ГОЛОС! СИЛА!

  • bend down and kiss your own ass goodbye..

  • KLASS!!!

  • Just lovely

  • Super!!!!

  • Nostalgiset terveiset Matille ja Aulikille Annelta.

  • tényleg überfasza

  • Very nice version of this song!

Also great voice... strange i never heard from him before. Does he only do russian-language-songs?

  • he also does italian operatics arias. he's a trained opera (baritone) singer. watch him sing "toreador" just fabulous.

  • S U P E R B !!!!!

  • Thanh you for posting this video.

  • Me encanta esta canción, la descubrí en la película Urga y desde entonces me tiene cautivado.
