  • I wish he had been one of my teachers when I was young.

  • @bartekgitara, I KNOW! It sucks that we have to wait until 2013 for it to air. Another cool aspect is that Seth Mcfarlane and Carl Sagan's wife will be co-producing.

  • if i ever see him ill ask for his autograph and favorite color lol

  • Carl Sagan is the man.

  • degrasse ass wipes

  • Can't wait to see him in new COSMOS!

  • @bartekgitara I heard that ....Tyson was doing a new COSMOS too! But the name is being changed to COS-MOFO'S.

  • @leavetheherbitalone forgot the rim shot.....badoom boom big bang.

  • The saddest part of our reality is that people like this aren't running "the show" that we call reality. Why are there so many flat earthers left who hold so much sway over our world?

  • morgan freeman= modern day carl sagan

  • great GREAT human being

  • Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a rock star in astro physics....I love this guy :)

  • pfft i'd still want to have neils autograph, but that doesn't means he's not doing his job!

  • If this man was on TV at least 3 times a day everyday our children would BE more.

  • Science needs more money! All we need is food, air, and science. Let's fly to the moon not into a building.

  • I love how he gets so worked up when he talks science. He loves it so much.

  • Ironic that he's so down to earth, yet he studies anything but things on earth. What an amazing guy. Truly, a second Carl Sagan.

  • I'm surprised he didn't mention Galileo as the most famous astronomer. That's who I immediately thought of.

  • @TheMissingno me too

  • No autograph requests?!!! This guy is so tits that top models should be begging him to sign theirs.

  • Neil you are light years beyond a "real celebrity". :)

  • Slacker Astronomy?

Sounds like something I can get into.

Right after I take a huge bong hit.

  • he's definitely as well-spoken as Sagan

  • Someone should fund him, so he can go to DC and lobby. I mean, if big tobacco and big oil can buy senators, then why can't physics?

  • @Polydynamix Big Physics!

  • @Polydynamix big science!

  • listening to neil tyson makes me horny for knowledge!!!

  • Is NdT kidding? I would totally have him sign my boob (and then something perfunctorily on paper for my son).

  • I would really like to know more about Neil as a person. If we learned more about him on a personal level, I think we would respect him even more than we already do, and therefore his passion for the universe would influence us and other people even greater.

  • Most famous astronomer got to be Sir Patrick Moore.Although I suppose that he a amateur astronomer.

  • When ppl ask him questions off the street, they really just want an excuse to talk to him since he's the coolest of all the astrophysicists.

  • how about voluntary funding? no, thats not the american way..

  • @whiteboyjimmy20 so is the ONE who brought you!

  • @phylosophycalwisdom Why are you even here?

  • @behnamasid to save you from Neil deGrasse Tyson and his foolishness

  • He was interviewed on, One On One, with Maria Hinojosa and his childhood was quite pedestrian until he says he was taken to a planetarium and the rest is history. An amazing man and yes I want a autograph!

  • I could listen to this guy all day long, he's such a great guy, and he's freaking hilarious!

  • He's another hero, along with Bill HIcks, Robert Pirsig, James Maynard Keenan, Carl Sagan...

  • If you come to Norway, I'll come to meet you too :)

  • We need to name something after Dr. Tyson......

  • @amphitrike He has an asteroid named after him.

  • Can't believe it's taken me this long to find this video. Great interview, amazing response. Just awesome stuff.

  • I like Tyson, much more than Michio Kaku. Although I love listening to both of them, this guy just always seems fresh and switched on, always answers questions directly and then adds another dimension that wakes you up a bit more!

  • he is so sincere about every question

  • "We are now the model for other public disciplines" we know that in the end, people who pay taxes are paying for what we do so they out to know what astrophysicists do." Tyson

Tyson is a man with the never-ending whit and defense of dawkins and the yearning passion for public scientific education (sagan) combined.

  • He is definitely today's Carl Sagan...

  • @RespectMyHate that is some non sequiter. He is so cool, but my owen is full of cake.

  • @theWHYing At least the statement that 'my oven is full of cake' is open to empirical verification.

  • brilliant

  • He is so fucking cool.

  • Neil Tyson, head in the clouds feet on the ground.

  • Kaku is pretty popular since the release of his books and movies about the future.

and I hope Tyson makes a sci-fi movie when he retires using as much accurate science. Id love to see it, his humor and intelligence will create a masterpiece that will rival James Cameron's Titanic. =]

  • In a better world, people like you are far more famous than your so described "real celebrities" like movie stars, Dr. Tyson

  • He is so fucking cool. I wish I could pick his brain.

  • I feel like Michio Kaku deserves honorable mention

  • you are the present day Carl Sagan, sir! Absolutely!!!

  • @shj456 I agree. Tyson has mass appeal and is always informative and helps us to be a more scientific literate society.

  • @shj456 And we definitely need one.

  • Ahhh Neil. Can you be my father please? Such a cool guy.

  • That would be you Sir very MUCH :-D

  • Moron

  • so if u dont believe in fiction u have no moral? hmm

  • Dr Tyson has got to be my favorite, 'cool geek'.

  • Dr Tyson claims not to be a "real" celebrity on the grounds that people don't ask asinine questions about his favourite colour, in stead they ask about his work.

To me, that only makes him more real.

(I shouldn't be doing this when I've been drinking...)

  • Yeah you should.... The rest of us are. :)

Where did you get the "real celebrity" stuff about Tyson.... I'm curious.

  • From the video.

    (Roughly 1:40 - 2:40.)

And apparently I occasionally get things right even when intoxicated, it does make him more of a real celebrity to me.

  • I would think Galileo is what many people think of when they think astronomy.

  • i was thinking the same, or Carl Sagan

  • @KnuckleBallz

Isn't English is the language that we speak?

  • no...nobody has heard of him

  • never heard of him

  • I would love an autograph and a picture with Neil deGrasse Tyson.

  • officially my favorite human at the moment

  • bush and obama are the same, bush was horrible on purpose, so people are happy about everything obama does.

  • @nekftw

    - tis true, but at least obama is a geek :D

  • Chuck Norris wasn't mentioned...

  • Galileo

  • wat?

  • @rollingtones

    - lol, as a scientist, he does what any real scientist does and is trained/taught to do, as scientific method works, one must not simply believe without TESTABLE EVIDENCE... simply seeing videos of UFOs does not mean we've been visited, it means we have evidence that needs testing and verification. Believing without testing or verification, is no better than believing in creationism.

Don't let self-fulfilling prophecies run your mind!

  • Im so glad people like this and Dr. Kaku are around to enlighten us, in a world [and country here in the US] that slowly is getting back to understanding after the 8 yrs of the dark ages under Bush (not necessarily a political statement but a factual one)

  • hear hear!!!

  • Dr. Tyson is an awesome guy. He is so enthusiastic about the universe, that you can't help but be interested

  • Carl Sagan was extremely important and a great inspiration and story teller. And it's admirable that Tyson acknowledges this fact.

Nowadays Tyson really is the successor of Carl Sagan.

  • Tyson is the person to carry on Sagans legacy. He has the compassion, humility and charisma to get people really interested in and asking questions about their universe. Keep up the good fight!

  • I would totally get his autograph. This guy is a badass

  • I think if I saw him in real life I'd just be like "You're fucking awesome!" and forget any questions I'd wanted to ask.

  • I would say Galileo.

  • That's what first came to my mind.

  • me too!!

    he made modernized science!

  • When people ask me who I want to meet the most, I usually say Tyson. I could ask him questions for days. Im glad he likes answering them ;)

I think he is a legacy to Sagan in that he is more concerned with enlightening the public than his own personal ego.

  • Tyson and Dawkins.

  • Hawking!

  • I agree about Tyson being the living Sagan.

  • Insipring words from a hubble dude, I mean humble dude LOL. Makes me want to reconsider my career choices since people are always coaxing me to teach science. I guess I make it fun for them to learn. 2:35 is where he said stuff that really hit home with me. Oh, I'd have to go back to school to get a teachers cert. Nevermind LOL!

  • Wow. Neil shows such humility and respect for the field, and he does it in a classical way 'off the cuff', with no prep. I love this guy. He's awesome.

  • Neil is probably the most down to Earth person I have ever heard speak before.

  • That's actually a rather ironic statement considering he specialty is not of this world.

  • @Funkypotat0

" Neil is probably the most down to Earth person "

...Quite a feat for an astrophysicist :-p

  • @Funkypotat0 even though his mind is in the cosmos.

  • yea this guy is so cool... i wish i was related to him lol

  • I like this guy.

  • I really appreciate how humble Tyson is. He is incredibly well spoken and intelligent. He's going to get more popular as time passes I believe. But he's a great representative of his field of science.

  • Neil is my favorite astrophysicist

    he's really cool

  • I think Neil will be the next Carl Sagan as far as popularizing astronomy is concerned. Timothy Ferris has some goods books, but is more of a journalist

Most famous living astronomer, probably Hawking, since cutting-edge astronomy is essentially astrophysics nowadays.

Most famous astronomer ever? Either Newton or Galileo.

  • Sagan and Tyson's books both have the same kind of feel or flow to them. Although Tyson is not where Carl was when he died they are both very entertaining. Also, i think that all astrophysicists have the same sense of humor.

  • Very interesting interview!

I totally agree with both of you.

  • TheSmoonge doesn't know what the hell he's talking about

  • And what created 'god'?

  • big daddy god

  • Gee whiz, man. If God created everything, he obviously also created himself... Get a clue!

  • Oh yeah. That's logical!

    XD

  • cool : )

  • thats the strong force, not gravity, that holds the nucleus of an atom together. Lrn2physics

  • how u ever thought maybe protons and neutrons were shaped and molded that way by the influence of gravity?that maybe human beings are here because we r the right sort of species for this planet?

  • i wasnt aware that earth was made specially for us humans?perhaps we were created as a result of our environment?

  • God's a delusion of ignorant primate minds that scurry in fear from scientific reality instead of embracing the Universe's astounding magnificence.

  • the force of gravity is actually way stronger than our mathematics say it should be.

  • Id ask him for his autograph

  • like uu tyson!! =)

  • Rees gets my vote.

  • are you kidding? Neil is so cool. He is great on the Stephen Colbert show!

  • I heard Tyson and Brian Greene got into a fight over the usefulness of String Theory. Brian supposedly called Tyson naive and said "I'm more famous than you!" Tyson then supposedly called Brian a "PBS whore" and the two then got into a wrestling match I heard, rolling around the street, just outside the New York Planetarium!

  • That wasn't Neil Tyson, that was Mike Tyson.

  • I lol'd

  • So which one was pro-string?

  • he didn't mention the most obvious figure on that list: albert einstein, who happens to be my personal hero.

  • I'd love to have Tyson over for dinner.

  • This guy is great!

  • i lik e tyson more hes cool!

  • awsome vid thanks...i just finished reading "Death by Black Hole" IT WAS AWESOME

  • I would say that he is the greatest. He is a great great man!

  • Neil Degrasse Tyson owns.

  • SAGANS influance stricks again. and hopefully i one day will be like sagan and tyson

  • hehe me too!

  • Good stuff! Thanks!

  • Great stuff! Thanks for posting this short, but meaningful, interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson.

  • i would have said galileo galilei but then again i watch too much history and discovery channle for my own good
