I feel like the porcupine tree song was somewhat misrepresented in this vid. Porcupine tree's songs progress slowly to develop different sensations but as a result they aren't usually as heavy as depicted in this segment of anesthetize. Regardless, great song, and an especially great album.

They have changed the way a lot of musicians think about music. They are one of those groups that you listen to and go "wtf are they doing? I gotta figure this out" like on the song Bleed.

Y quién te dijo que en esas bandas hay mejores músicos que un Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, un Carl Palmer, Bruford, un Steve Howe, Un fripp, un Chris Squire, un Percy Jones o multinstrumentistas del nivel como los hermanos Shulman? Para todo hay gustos, pero la odna aquí es que estas bandas que mencionaste no son estrictamente banda de rock progresivo, y ésa es una confusión que lamentablemente está extendiéndose con los chavos. A mí se me hace que el chavo que propuso la lista no tiene idea de lo que es el lenguaje del rock progresivo. Ninguna de las bandas que menciona caracteriza al género progresivo. Es metal con MUY poco de prog y ya. El progresivo es Yes, Genesis, ELP, Gentle Giant, King Crimson

How come all these bands sound metal? Just because you can shred doesn't make you prog. Prog is artistic rock. Using melodies, harmonies, and clever (although sometimes odd) musical pieces. I would not listen to any of the bands you listed. They all sound metal in this video.

Actually you should hear more songs from this bands instead of just criticize them for a less-than-1-min piece... This guy used a lot of the metal elements for the making of this video but these bands have their artistic role or artistic influence or whatever in other segments or even in other songs, just give them a try they don't bite I promise ;)...

Among the other things, they are one of Tool main influences and also one of Mike Portnoy's (of Dream Theater fame) favorite bands. They are an important and influential band in prog music.

Of course Jane's Addiction is prog! What else could it be? The first time I heard The Mountain Song, I was hooked (Three Days is one of my favs). Tool is the shit though - my wife and I have seen them 10 times. We'd follow them like deadheads if we didn't have jobs or kids :)

I found Oedipus (...not Rex) a couple months ago and have been grooving to Humbility. The singer/basist sounds like a young Mike Patton and plays like a young Les Claypool. They'd be a great party band!

Didn't know Oedipus, I've to check them out! Yeah, Tool are incredible but I prefer Jane's Addiction! Man, everytime I hear "SEX IS VIOLENT!!!!" I go crazy!!! What else could it be? They call them "alternative", but...Fuck that, they're pure prog! But, you know, there are a lot of bands that no one would consider prog besides me, for exemple: Mudvayne System Of A Down Soundgarden Kyuss Acid Bath Faith No More Primus Iron Maiden Melvins Cathedral ...and others. All of these for me are prog!

idk if uve heard of opeth but they are by far the greatest progressive nay greatest band of all time. the break all the musical rules too give theresleves an eerie sound. there woords dont even rhyme the guitarist doesnt use scales he plays what he thinks sounds good and the ocalist can go from a horrific awesome death scream to nearly a whisper e can sound fuckin metal and beautiful. im sure u just forget any prog fan knos opeth man keep rockin

King Crimson, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Camel, Rush, Beggar's Opera, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Kansas, Moody Blues, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Strawbs, Triumvirat or Utopia? You should listen carefully to these bands, and discover somthing new. They are a few among many prog rock gods.
