I bet you don't give a fuck about bugs or rodents being exterminated by the mass, do you? They're living creatures too, and they are exterminated on a much greater level and yield no skin, fur, meat or other valuable resources. You also probably don't care about fishing either because fish are ugly.
The only reason you give a fuck about seals and bunnies is because they are cute. This is a human instinct, get over it.
"Very little enforcement or monitoring" Funny you should say that, you have a video camera, why not take some actual proof of that instead of just spitting your mouth off and just giving us the option of taking your word for it or not? I can easily see one seal was not killed properly, mistakes are made. Where's all your proof? You only show what you can use to manipulate people into only seeing things your way.
Lets hope their wives and mothers and childeren are gang raped. If anyone knows anybody that calls this a career choice, please pass my comments on to them. These men are not human and it would be no great loss to human kind if they just fell off the earth and took their families with them.
The cutter you refer to is a Canadian Coast Guard vessel with ice breaking capabilities. They work year round on the east, west, and Great Lakes of Canada. They open up harbours in the spring, provide search and rescue, and aid to ALL fishermen. All goverment sevices a paid for by the people of Canada by taxes. All people pay taxes including fishermen. The term "nuseries" is incorrect. The proper term is "front". Perhaps you are the one that needs to do the research?
These activist idiots should be locked up and there donation money should be used to fund their prison terms rather than tax payers. What the hell is the problem with killing seals? They're cute? It looks bad because the white background? Look at the other video this idiot posted "seal suffering". I donate freely to IFAW. East coast fishermen pick my goddam pockets for my tax money - which they DO NOT have my permission to do. East coast fishermen have bitten the hands that feed them long enough - AND whine that the rest of Canada owes them a living. They aren't intelligent enough to be embarrassed. Pfft.
@askalice50 Sorry, to burst you bubble but non of your tax money goes toward the seal harvest. The harvest is on component of the annual fishing cycle. Fishmen pay taxes, buy gas, pay CPP, UI just like you!!!!!!! One of the myths of the hunt is that it is subitized. by the Canadian government. IFAW are the one's picking your pockets! They and 17 other organizations depend on the Canadian seal hunt.
@romika3 My brother worked on a cutter that broke ice to the nurseries. Did east coast fishermen pay for that - you have a lot of research to do before you continue to shoot your mouth off.
@askalice50 The cutter you refer to is a Canadian Coast Guard vessel with ice breaking capabilities. They work year round on the east, west, and Great Lakes of Canada. @romika3 "Fronts" are for wars, but you're the one picking the language here. A few thousand seal killers are holding the rest of Canada hostage over an atrocity that the majority don't want. Do they lack the ingenuity and vigor it takes to find another occupation? Apparently they do, as they whine that the rest of the country owes them a living.
@askalice50 It would seem that it is the fact that the sealers wish to make their own living (not the ones you wish for them to have) which you despise. It is evident by your protesting of it. It must be their using of their own free will that is every inch their right to do that is too much for a sheep like you? A 2010 survey concludes that the majority of Canadians are in favour of a responsible and sustainable hunt which our seal hunt is an perfect example of.
@Ersabette Naturally a survey taken by CBC Newfoundland is going to come out for the seal slaughter - (yes, I saw it too). The forestry industry in the west has changed irreversibly, and mills are shut down every year - entire communities are affected. At least the mill workers and loggers have self-respect. They find employment in other fields and don't tell the rest of Canada that everyone owes them a living.
@askalice50 Actually, you are mistaken, TNS Canada conducted the survey. But you will admit, for every poll for there is one against so it still doesn't hold any weight. The majority really doesn't care about sealing. There is no justifiable reason to shut down the sealing industry as you well know the seals will be killed regardless because it is necessary to keep their numbers in check or perhaps you haven't heard of the food chain? That's the difference between forestry and sealing.
@askalice50 It is because of their self-respect and dignity that the sealers haven't backed down or accepted your "buy outs" because there is absolutely nothing wrong with sealing. You wish to listen to the lies that ARA's tell you that paint sealing to be wrong that is up to you but stop trying to take peoples freedoms away because YOU don't like how they make their living. What sealer exactly has said to Canada that they owe them a living? Not one.
@Ersabette You are willfully ignoring my point. The sealing industry is dead. Sealers need to learn from the dying forestry industry about how to conduct themselves with dignity and look after their families in the future. I don't know what papers you read in newfoundland - but it's not just ME that is against this barbaric practice. Look through ANY CBC article on this and you'll always see some unmanned sealer crying "and what are you going to do for me when the sealing ends?"
@askalice50 Anyone can pose as a sealer and make those claims on an online forum. Just look here on YT how many accounts one man (you know who) had trying to appear as many. They had non-sealers in 1964 skin seals alive. You are willfully ignoring my point. Without the industry the same seals will still be killed by the same people however with your tax dollars. The industry doesn't keep sealing alive, necessary wildlife management does, industry better utilizes the seal but hey, it's your vote.
@Ersabette If the industry was to fail for sound reasons; scientific, to allow the resource to recover, etc then the sealers would absolutely "conduct themselves with dignity" and move on. However, it's not failing for those reasons, people are making their decisions not based on fact but falsehoods. EFSA for example didn't even read their own report on the subject before banning a product derrived from seals which their own union kills as well!
@Ersabette Whoa, whoa, whoa there Esabette. What EU country is killing baby seals for a market? And, what report says member of parliament didn't read the EFSA Q-2007-118 report? The mere FACT that the Canadian seal hunt has a 5% "struck and lost" rate is alone reason to end it. There are so many facts out there showing that not only is the seal hunt not wanted by a majority of Canadians, but it's also inherently inhumane.
@CoffinCornerX How convenient, speak of the devil and the devil shall appear. Who said anything about the EU killing baby seals for market? They kill them to protect their fisheries which is legal under their fisheries protection act. Actually, the EU now has the largest seal slaughter, not Canada. How ironic. Deer hunting results in a much higher struck and lost rate than 5%. Sealing has been found to be atleast as humane if not more humane than the practices used in slaughterhouses.
@CoffinCornerX It is evident only those EU members that opposed to a seal product ban within their states actually read their own report and we all know how that vote turned out.
@BulgarianInCanada Your status as an Bulgarian in Canada does not make you an expert in the subject. Unless you are a qualified veterinarian who has studied seal anatomy only then can you make such accusations. However, qualified independent vets have already saved you the trouble and studied the seal hunt and the methods used to kill seals. Their conclusion is that sealing is atleast as if not more humane than the practises used in slaughterhouses. I'd be happy to send the peer reviewed report.
@Ersabette dude i know how well the seals get treated and i ve got plenty of VIDEO and pictures to prove it. Some ive got from friends on Sea Shepherd, and a friend of mine who was on a sealing boat in the early 2000s(doesnt seal anymore since 2004) and then of course i ve got video from Sea Shepherd, IFAW, and HSUS from the 1970s, all the way to 2008,09,10, and 2011. This years hunt although by far the smallest was infact the cruelest probably in a long time. The sealers were pissed!
@BulgarianInCanada Dude, how many cuts were made in all that video evidence? ARA's submitted video evidence to EFSA for review claiming a number of live skinnings and EFSA couldn't determine one case of such because of the lack of continuity. If ARA's couldn't submit uncut, unedited "evidence" to EFSA I doubt they'd give it to you. That said, some sealers do ruin it for others but it is by far not the norm. When you have people like SF who can apparently see through a mans back and claim he
@BulgarianInCanada didn't perform the 3 step process and naive people blindly believing she's right then yeah, it would be pretty cruel. Have you stopped to think that the sealers might be pissed because of the slander and harrassment they go through every year? Let me also ask you this, what independent vet have they had on board? What qualifications do PW, SF, RA, etc have to make such accusations? What peer review reports have they conducted with all their millions they have recieved?
@Ersabette they deserve the harassment they receive for killing millions and millions of seals. the sealers have to get some other jobs and luckily thats gonna happen soon. the seal kill this year was 30, 000 less than last years kill which was a lowest ever on record in recent years.apparently the sealers killed almost 40, 000 but that is still 40, 000 TOO MUCH!
@BulgarianInCanada They've been saying that for over 40 years and it hasn't happened yet. The sealers don't "have" to do anything, that's the beauty of free-will and human rights. If the industry fails the same seals will be killed by the same sealers because industry is secondary after necessary wildlife managment, then it really will be funded by your tax dollars. No one deserves to be harrassed. You have the right to disagree but harrassment of any kind is unacceptable.
@Ersabette suure you know Japanese whaling in Antarctica? thats what they were saying too that they would continue but now they are singing a diff song. Its all about profit and the seal hunt is DYING!!
@BulgarianInCanada You mean the industry is dying. The seal hunt will continue regardless of an industry to manage their numbers. A 2010 survey places them at 8-10million, they are increasing despite an annual hunt that removes 3-6% of their pop. Left to grow too much and they will die a slow, painful death by starvation and/or disease - that's what you're fighting for. I noticed you have avoided my questions, don't worry, I figured you would.
@Ersabette i dont believe those surveys. from what i see there is less and less ice out there which means less time and places for seals to stay at. i just dont see how seal populations could be booming with less food, more slaughters, and less ice! I'd say those surveys are faked just so people get misleaded into thinking its all ok. Just like the cod? remember...
@BulgarianInCanada Believe what you like, doesn't make it any less true. Yes, there is less ice, seals were pupping closer to and on shore this year. More slaughters? You just said this year only 30,000 were killed which is less than last year, not more. Less food? Apparently I've heard from your side that seals eat 90% of cod predators which means that there should be a plethora of food out there. I wish you ARA's would get your stories straight.
@Ersabette thats true they do eat smaller fish and YOUNG cod predator fish but the fact is the whole eco system is now f**ked up. Where are the Grand Banks? we are destroying this planet at an alarming pace and enough is enough.
@BulgarianInCanada NLers have been under a cod moratorium for over 15 yrs - the seal pop has grown considerably (around 2-4 million in the 70s - 8-10 million in 2010) and yet the cod stocks are not yet fully recovered. If NLers are not threatening the cod the seals aren't helping them. The whole eco-system could be out of whack because there's too many seals. With low catch rates the last couple yrs not enough are being killed to sustain them and their habitats.
@Ersabette So that's the new spin for the sheeple to follow? Wildlife management? No one's fooled by these childish machinations - the seal industry is dead. If there isn't a market for the fur the east coasters are going to kill them anyway? Contact some west coast mill workers - they can tell you how to enter the 21st century.
@askalice50 Nothing new about the role of predators. Without predators prey species would overpopulate and starve rendering them too weak to fight disease. Perhaps you haven't looked around you, but the 21st century hasn't offered us a whole lot of positive opportunities. The only good that has come from modern life is better sanitation and communication. Our quick paced society and dependence on fossil fuels has made us and the planet sick.
@Ersabette You're right about "us and the planet" being sick. But you're wrong about the opportunities - they've just been mismanaged by a short-sighted, selfish species that calls itself the top of the food chain. As long as men can bash to death an animal that cannot run or swim away there ARE no positive opportunities. Violence begets violence. Unfortunately, empathy isn't something that can be taught.
@askalice50 Much like the seals ripping out the bellies of fish or lions tearing out the throats of zebras - humans are no different and for your belief that we should be you are a speciest.
@askalice50 Ersabette. You honestly must torture yourself to death with all this posting, posting, posting. Sweetheart (and I know deep down inside you are), you simply cannot stem this animal welfare tide. We win time and time again, hun. Read the book The Power of Now by Ekhart Tolle. You'll find that resistance equals pain. The only person you damage with this anger and hate...is yourself. Begin living your life, and finding peace, for yourself. I have found that. Now you deserve that too.
@CoffinCornerX You were forced to find peace by YT because of all your violations. The only anger and hate I have experienced is from your side of the issue, the side that's supposed to be about compassion and empathy. The bit of posting I do about sealing is no indication whatsoever of my quality of life. You, however, wish me to stop exercising my right of free speech because I make people think more logically about the issue, logic, unfortunately, not being a part of your vocab.
@Ersabette Is this another one of those surveys that you'll tell everyone says one thing but in reality says another? Like that DFO survey from a few years ago that you said showed Canadians didn't oppose the hunt. When in reality they did. See, you conveniently left off the answer to THAT survey questions which asked, "Would you support the hunt if there were an organized resistance movement against it, (which there is/was) and the majority of Canadians said "No. I would not support the hunt".
@CoffinCornerX This survey was conducted mid April, 2010 and concluded that 6 out of 10 Canadians accept sealing by any hunter where pops are not endangered and animal welfare respected. Only 2 out of 10 indicated they will not accept any form of seal hunting. The presence of a resistance movement does not mean Canadians are opposed to sealing because they understand the facts. But again, for every poll for sealing there is one against, none of them hold any water. The majority do not care.
IFAW makes an effort to look for and film misses and the not so clean kills etc. That is how they operate so they can get funds. Notice her emphanises on "DONATE". Funny they never show the three step process in operation, the process followed by the majority of fishermen.
@romika4 Or they claim a kill violates the regulations when it doesn't. They claim the 3 step process wasn't administered when it was. Many people watching don't know any better.
@mrbiggles563 Wanting to stop the seal hunt just make you an ignorant ass hole who has knows nothing about it . Good thing baby calfs arn't white and fluffy or you would have no hamburg or leather boots i bet .
@BulgarianInCanada Hope you like cod, cos there won't be much of that when seal hunting stops

CoffinCornerX 9 months ago

Funny they never show the three step process in operation, the process followed by the majority of fishermen.
romika4 10 months ago
@romika4 Or they claim a kill violates the regulations when it doesn't. They claim the 3 step process wasn't administered when it was. Many people watching don't know any better.
