  • The there was, is and ever will be

  • This is from 1973 at Los Angeles's Ahmanson Theater.

  • thats drumming....bruce's worst day was when he lost vinnie and sancious

  • There's a kind of Thin Lizzy feeling in this song. Like it a lot!

  • Comment removed

  • @eivoldhasse Dude sorry 2b harsh, but do you understand there would be no Thin Lizzy without Springsteen? Everything they did was totally Springsteen based. They were one of many bands (manfred mann, bon jovi, the asbury jukes....) that were springsteen clone bands. peace, out.

  • @strummersbrother Um, not quite. Thin Lizzy was around before Bruce released hsi first album or became well-known as a touring act. They're contemporaries. Not to say they weren't influenced by him, but more likely both were influenced by the same sorts of artists and producrs and/or their producers were. Manfred Mann dates back to the British invasion. Bon Jovi, yes def. post-Springsteen. These claims of influence needed to be checked against the calendar.

  • Fantastic video! Thanks for uploading! It's a cracker!

  • i still cannot believe a man could/would have a song this powerful and keep it under wraps. THERE ARE BANDS WHO HAVE HAD WHOLE CAREERS AND NEVER HAD A SONG THIS GOOD! how can this be? the man sold his soul to the gypsy woman.

  • although i got Multiple Sclerosis diagnosticized since 1 Week, BUT this song brings me from out the valley! Thanks Bruce and band!

  • @chrisfo103

Best thing I've seen someone type in a long time. Good luck man, and keep on rockin.

  • Bruce is an absolute lyrical and guitar/ piano/ bass genious. The brother I never had. But his politics are destructive...

  • get the dvd mate...this is priceless..the best

  • Bruce rules......for over more then 40 years!!!!

  • Bruce rules......for over more then 40 years!!!!

  • One day. Miss Patti will be wheeling Bruce out in front of the Old Rock Stars Home(One too many flying Springsteens into the camera you know)And geezers like me will say;"There goes Bruce Springsteen,t6he best that ever was....Dance with me partner....

  • You are correct, this is AWESOME! Finally people are getting to see Bruce in his early days. Check out Bruce in 78 in Passaic, NJ ---- Prove it All Night ----- probably the most incredible video of any band......ever.

  • This track is AWESOME!

  • best live song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish it didnt cut off i love the ending to this song, and with the asbury park prop dropping at the end i would have loved to see it

  • Buy the Born To Run 30th anniversary Box. WOn't regret it.

  • Vini's drumming from 6:30 until around 7:00 is just...very very good.

  • Wonderful

  • so so so so so so so good

  • My mama just told me to turn this down but I gotta ask.. How can you turn down ROCK N ROLL???????

  • Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up!! (I'm a mom too but this HAS to be heard up LOUD!)

  • I have been listening to bruce for as long as i can remember and this is the first time i have ever heard this song. I love it and cant stop listening to it he rocked even as a kid

  • Nice, Clarence gives Bruce a helping hand, while nowadays Clarance can't barely walk or stand himself

  • wow, amazing song Bruce! and so early in "down thunder road" great one! :)

  • is it the first official video of Bruce?

  • May 1, 1973...Los Angeles,CA Ahmanson Theatre.

  • back in those wild an innocent days!

  • Early years. Steve join the band in the 75. Vini is jazz musician, he is different that max. Max is rock

  • Awsome but where's Steve?

  • vini lopez was soooo much better than weinberg. not that weinbergs bad but still.

  • @rydeiscool9 ...vini's got the jazz, but weinburg's got the power. he's more rock n' roll.

  • yea i get your point. I guess i just like his style better. Max is a damn good drummer though, hes one of the best.

  • unbelievable boss this was awesome 36 years ago and it was awesome when i heard him open with it at madison square garden in november...he always was still is and always will be the best in the business

  • does anyone know a specific date for this show or where it took place?

  • i believe this was may 1st, 1973 at the ahmanson theater in LA

  • awesome

  • I saw the Boss at this time in his career in Houston at Liberty Hall. I talked to him for hours. I miss those days. I was nice to see Clarence thin, Gary with hair and Phantom Danny at the B3. Even after he last wore his hair short Danny still tossed his head the same way. As much as we miss him, I know Bruce misses him more. It is also good to see Vini Lopez doing a Keith Moon impression.

  • that's GREAT!!!!!!!!! they've so much fun on stage... pretty cool...really.

  • Comment removed

  • can you like, PLEASE send this video to me ? I've never seen anything better then this (Y)

  • The video is 500MB and I can't email that large of a file. There are 4 different videos in this same series... Spirit in the night, Blinded by the light, Circus town, and Thundercrack. They are included as "extras" on the "Making of Born to Run" DVD. Also, If you haven't seen it... The absolute BEST DVD is Springsteen LIVE at Hammersmith in 1975.

  • dammit, you don't have like, MSN ? :) or do you know where i can Download it :)

  • @Phil2u2

The hyde park dvd was great too.

  • this is from the wings for wheels born to run documentary.

  • @thewhochilipeppersU2 No it is not

  • @arod42688 yeah um it actually is i own it

  • I could dance to THAT all night...

  • 23/9/09 - 60 yrs. young... happy birthday Boss!

  • Ah i love this song.

It just makes you feel so...

    Bruce-y!!!

  • does anyone know what show this is, and if there are more videos from it? This is a really good recording for early bruce.

  • Now there's a man who could impregnate a stone... Ssssmokin' Bruce at his absolute best!

  • danny federici looks so funny

  • Comment removed

  • I was so happy to find this on the BTR 30th DVD box set, and it is even better on youtube so I can watch it whenever I want! I wish more of this set was released by Bruce.

    Thanks for posting it!

  • hmm it looks like that he was drunken or something like that...but it still remains a awesome song!!

  • bruce man was stoned and clarence was thin! ah the good old days what a song!

  • Bruce has always told he never took any illegal substance... I believe him as I can't see the reaso why he would lie for a thing so widespread especially in Music....

  • musicboy sounds a bit young & naive about music. Still in his muso stage methinks.

This is fantastic live groovin fun. I can also see where Wolverine based his looks on.

  • does anyone have a tab or something for how he plays at 5:27?

  • Hes moving alot but I think you bar the high e and b string at the fifteenth fret then you just do a pull off from the nineteenth to the fifteenth then pick the b string then a pull off from the seventeenth then pick the b string again. Just do it repeatedly and fast. Tell me if it helped.

  • Yes thank you that does help. Also while your at it do you, or anyone you know have the whole song tabbed?

  • incredible!

  • Love this song

  • Awesome? Is that all? You might as well post video of Abe Lincoln reciting the Gettysberg Address and call it "so-so".

  • how does he do the violin thing?

  • those are "volume swells" you mess with the volume knob on the guitar to get different results

usually you quickly turn it all the way down and then up gradually - the point is that you're trying to get rid of the sound of the "attack " of the string - meaning you don't hear when the pick hits and it creates a violin or sometimes horn like sound vs the normal guitar sound - add some effects and you can really get scary with how cool it sounds - Arlen Roth is amazing at these

  • he turns the volume down, hits a note, and then turns the volume up. thats the knob hes turning on the tele

  • This is awesome! Thanks for posting!

  • Around 8:22 looka like Clarence is telling Bruce to cut it out. haha

  • haha i think Bruce was almost backing into the drums or a mic

  • he seemed a little out of it.. haha

  • I did the hundreth rating

  • i did the 115th rating yeah~

  • did I hear that right? ....was his girlfriend really only 16 years old?

  • Yeah, sounds like it. But then again, he was only about 22 or 23 at the time, so I guess it's not THAT creepy.

Well, ok, it's a bit creepy.

  • Hm, no not that creepy! My friend is 16 too, having a boyfriend aged 20 =)

Nowadays it's pretty normal to have an older boyfriend I guess, but I don't know about back then

  • Ive watched him play this song in numerous other Youtube videos from his 2007 tour. They do not COME CLOSE to the pure raw young unleashed talent he shows here. thanks so much for posting this video. It's a keeper - love the way other band members seem unsre when guitar is going to end...

  • He's a-fuken-mazing! This is my newest favorite. I love his smile he is so hot! The only thing hotter that Young Bruce is Current Bruce. Man, has he aged well, or what??

  • are there any more of these videos?

  • he plays spirit in the night too, I can't find it on youtube though

  • no way max's son jay is the best hes gonna tack over for him

  • Since Max has this Conan thing going on wouldn't it be awesome if Bruce brought Vini to play when Max was busy with Conan

  • Hell, Vini was insane! This is Keith Moon drumming! He's the only I've seen that could match or overshadow Moon's insane drumming

  • What a treasure!!

  • From '73 L.A.. Vini "Madman" Lopez on drums. Poor Vini plays in a Bruce tribute band now.

  • how come vini stopped playing for bruce?

  • He was kinda crazy. He would get out of control on stage and screw up the show. Bruce couldn't take it any more and canned him 2/74.

  • What a find!... where did you get this?? When was it recorded?

  • it's on the Wings For Wheels DVD in the Born To Run 30th Anniversary box set.

  • Probably the best video on the Tube:-D

  • It's on the Tracks album.

  • Oh you meant originally.

  • why didnt bruce formally release this song?

  • Great question. In the long period between The Wild, the Innocent and Born to Run he was writing so much stuff that this kind of got lost in the shuffle. They played it live a lot in 1973 and tried to capture it in the studio, but I guess they never got a take they liked. Always one of my favorites, though.

  • its on an album called "Tracks"...they sell it at costco..has 4 cd's of stuff like this. it is truly awesome

  • doesnt matter if its cut right here is the good parts

  • Now THIS is Thundercrack. I was looking forward to hearing it on the Magic tour, but when I heard it in Philly, it wasn't the same. The violin over dubbing the guitar parts ruined it.

  • NO WAY! The Violin was bad ass.

  • Bruce Rules!!!

  • amazing video of the young bruce

  • This looks amazing with the new widescreen size and high quality switched on.

  • I agree.

  • I got this DVD awesome. '73 in L.A. Vinnie "mad man" Lopez on drums.

  • May I ask where you were able to pick up that DVD?

  • its an extra on the born to run box set documentary dvd, also has spirit in the night and wild billys circus story.

  • Amazzzzzing! and he was only 23 years old!

Love this song, too bad is cut at the end

  • any idea where there's any tabs for this?

  • what year is this?

  • 1973

  • One of his best song on the album Tracks

  • This is my favorit song

  • u can actually pick a favorite... the most i can say is this easily makes my top 300

this performance is just flat out amazing tho

  • lemme just button my shirt here..... UUHHHHHH

  • Wow look at Danny's hair! Oh man I miss him...RIP

PS - I'm starting the First Church of Thundercrack

  • Thats some good rocking allright!

    great upload!

  • lets face it Bruce is like a god now!

  • he still does that great smirk of enjoyment during a solo but here you can really see all those great faces he makes

i love the bruce face =]

and the way he plays with his voice is awesome ... and that guitar solo ... just look at how much joy is flying through to the hearts of people in the band and the crowd

  • Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez kicks on those drums!

  • AMAZING song!

  • i cant stop watching it

  • Is musicboy going to fuck up about every Bruce clip now? Read all your comments on "Prove it all night". Maybe you know something about music. I bet you listen to guys like Steve Vai, calling them Guitar God and don't recognice that it's more tragic if the feeling is missing than the technical skills. Been on several Bruce concerts. Never been drunk at one. Always had the fun of my life though.

  • bruce only drinks beers

  • of all rock songs about 97 percent of them have "simple chord progressions" few rock songs are based on more than five chords and don't give me this crap about "same notes over and over again" cause we all know people like Vai or Gilbert take brilliant simple melodies found in classic rock and bring it into something more complex

  • A man it dont get much better than this!!!

  • man thanks for putting this up, got the BTR 30th aniv and this is performance is certainly my favorite of his that i've seen

    thanks :)

  • Wow so cool!!!great stuff!

  • where is this taken from and when?

    anybody knows?

  • Born to Run 30th Anniversary and came out in 2005.

  • I mean where and when it was performed ?

  • Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles - 1973

  • Outstanding!

  • WOW!!! thanks AWESOME!

  • ah youth - not unusual for guys in their twenty 's with out a real job to still be dating girls from high school back in the day hahahaha

all that long hair on Danny and Gary

and VINI MAD DOG pounding those drums and never losing his hat and The Big Man so big and handsome and young

Where is this from and is there more please?

    thanks so much for posting

  • 16 year old girlfriend and what age is he there 23,
