you can't get horsepower from a Common-Rail Diesel with twists and turns, i had my E60 530d reflashed to 320hp and about 700nm ! On a FACTORY engine, without much stress to the internals !
535d is capable of much more, the engine is the same, both have 3.0 liter Common Rail diesel engines, but the 535d has a better turbo-setup,
This 535d is one hell of a ride. I've driven one and it feels great. Comfort, low noise and engine power. I've made a rolling start with the owner one day and it gave a little headache to leave it behind. Its a straith 6 cyl engine, 2 turbos (a small one coupled to a big one), 3 liter diesel engine, but it has a damn good 3-mode auto gearbox. manual-sequencial(on the board panel shows an M), direct (shows D) and directSport (shows DS). It will humilliate lots of sport cars that go on gasoline!!!
Hey sorry to be barging in. But my 2003 540i auto with 3.15 diff consistently beats my friends 1999 540i manual...I also thought manual was faster than auto. But that 3.15 diff apparently helps a lot.
Holy Moses ! 5.2? I have a 3.64:1 LSD laying in my garage right now waiting to go on my E39 540i... I just did a manual conversion to the M5 6speed. and it made a DAMN big difference over the Auto box.. haha.
This 540i bimmer is mine. why should i lie? i lost because the strange 4th gear delay. btw my car stock weight (is 1880kg) and default is 1730kg.. i have protected glasses, sound system etc:) But well it was worth a try, 535D won ! ;)
@miksirikoitsen Bet ya it wasn't on soviet era airfield with concrete blocks where 60ft times really suffer ? My 540i/6 (chip,exhaust,Quaife diff) made 13,77s@166,4km/h on that very same Kiltsi airfield.
535d (chip,LSD) did that day 14,17@156,3 Trap speed indicates that even chipped 535d lacks the power to weight ratio to compete with 540i.

My friends car is also a Automatic Gearbox 540iA, M62B44TU and he did nothing but install the M5 differential and he got a 13,7sec 1/4mile time..
how did you get a diff from E64 to fit ?

I installed a 3.15:1 M5 diff on one of my friends 540iA, only reasonator and useless can in rear removed, made 1/4mile in 13,7sec !

And i almost forgot the most important of all, it develops 286hp. That's almost 300 Horse Power on a factory diesel engine!!!!
With a little twist and turn, here and there, imagine how many horse power you can get out of it!!

I'd say 360-380hp should be easy with a 535d !
