"Alco" is a short term for "American Locomotive Company". Also, if someone says "Alco", they may also be referring to a locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company.
And secondly, I've seen this engine countless times, as well as going to this Railroad a lot. And also, the number of the engine is on the outside of the cab, on the number plate, and on number boards on the headlight LOL.
Lee, thanks for the correction. I've always wanted to know when she was built, as 1926 is on the number plate and people say that is the date, and some people say 1923.
Hell, I even once asked a fireman on 97 when she was built and he didn't know.
I know but I almost never see 40 or 97 blowing fully. WHY CANT THOSE NEIGHBORS JUST STOP COMPLAINING!!!! It's a nice sound anyway. I'd rather see 97 and 40 whistle longer. THAT makes the neighborhood a better place! Somewhere where you can hear the sound of a steam whistle! You don't get to hear a steam whistle very often these days, so I wish those people would just BE QUIET AND STOP COMPLAINING!!!!! >:O
If a police was watching this I think he would tell the neighbors to stop complaining, because You are SUPPOSED to blow the whistle 2 LONGS, a short, and a LONG whne you approach a crossing. It needs to be safe. ESPECIALLY ON CROSSINGS WITHOUT GATES! The bell and flashing isn't enough warning. I have seen that people rush through the crossing if theres no gates. If they know that there is gates and the gates are down, they will not go. So They need to blow longer!!!
Well the reason Im complaining, is because Id like to hear the whistle be blown fully. And it doesnt happen cause the neighbors dont want to hear the whistle that much! >:O
Don't worry, NWRRSteamPower. You're no longer the only one complaining. I completely agree with you. Not only should the enginners blow the locomotive's whistles longer than they do because it sounds better, but they are supposed to blow 2 longs, a short, and a long when approaching a crossing. It the law! Those people need to stop complaining, and deal with the steam locomotives and their whistles.

I rode that train all the time as a kid! Then I'd skip the ferry part and just ride back with the returning passengers. Thanks for the memories!

Guys come on. At least the engines are running!

Good neighbor policy. They blow first at the whistle post, then again just before arriving at the crossing. VRR has been there for 37 years,
doesn't need any enemies in a wealthy suburban neighborhood.

Why did the engineer have to be so light with the whistle?

40 is better, i was in the cab today, vids will be uploaded tommrow on pilotboy088

Well, considering they both have the exact same driver diameter, I wouldn't be surprised if neither could go much faster than the other.
railroadfan 4 years ago
97 is not as old as 40. 97 is also a consolodation: meaning that it can go fast but only for a short time.
DarkTower97 4 years ago
actually what i ment in the previous comment is that 97 has a smaller firebox than 40 so it woudnt burn as hot or as much as 40.
DarkTower97 3 years ago
I love this engine and crossing. I learned 97 is faster than 40.
