  • THIS IS NOISE... NOT MUSIC

  • I wonder what this reunion will sound like? (IT FLIPPIN BETTER BE ON YOUTUBE CUZ THEY SOLD OUT IN 3 HOURS, I WAS GONNA GO!') I noticed that after ROC came out Omar got progressively ambient/dissonant, and Jim just kept playing the written material, I've payed attention to TMV and Sparta (TMV's my personal favorite) and I really can't imagine how its all gonna sound now.

  • With TV on the radio, the most epic performances on letterman? I say yes...:D

  • SEND TRANSMISSION FROM THE ONE-ARMED SCISSOR, CUT AWAY CUT AWAY

  • epic coated epic.

  • @1:23 Omar's guitar solo melts the camera feed....

  • Also is it me or does the second guitarist (stage left) have a Welsh flag on his guitar??!

  • @peanutismint he does, check out their interview on channel V

  • @kjuyhfklujhkuyf I've searched 'At the drive-in interview channel V' but came up with nothing. I talked to Jim on Twitter shortly after he posted on here and he confirmed he is indeed of Welsh ancestry (where I live!!)

  • @peanutismint haha right on man. sucks, a lot of the channel v videos got deleted :/

  • This is one of those videos that I reblog every couple of years - truly spectacular performance.

  • I love Cedric's moves.

  • At the Drive-In : Sparta/TheMarsVolta :: Sleep : HighOnFire/Om

Sometimes great things come out of band break-ups.

  • 11 people have no idea.

  • LOL!

  • This and the Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies) are the two greatest Letterman performances of our era.

  • They were our Nirvana.

  • I want a cool White Guy Fro.....I know every word off this album....still awesome

  • Omar can do me.

  • I love how Letterman keeps having them on. You know he's thier biggest fan! 11 people who've watched this obviously own Justin Bieber buttplugs and use as pacifiers after he tests them. Bless them! Thanks for the upload!

  • Letterman probaly pissed himself

  • @canesrule96 haha he probably did!

  • EPIC!

  • 158,000 views? am i the only person watching this?!

  • AT THE DRIVE-IN RULES, So much better than Mars Volta and Wolfmother...

  • @fazzarules You naming bands who have a singer with the same kind of hair?

  • @fazzarules Without question.

  • goddamn latinos were blessed with hair

  • I hate how Cedric thinks of himself as some godlike creature, but always pusses out when it comes to singing the difficult parts live. Dave Grohl for example does the same, but he's humble, unlike Cedric...

  • @Saladbowl The difference is Cedric will be infinitely more talented than Dave Grohl

  • @djjdchampion1 talented in what respect? Grohl is an amazing song writer and one of the best drummers of the last 25 years. i dont see one as better than the other. both are incredible musicians. both have strengths and weaknesses.

  • @Saladbowl u are a fucking idiot ¬¬

  • 2:00 chaos

  • next level jew fros right there

  • @weeweegordy they're mixed race you vile racist.

  • hahaha

  • Poor stage, must be hard taking a dick in the ass so intensely.

  • The crownd must have been like WTF IS GOING ON?

  • this must be shortly after 9/11

  • @FuriousPumpkin At The Drive-In broke up like 5 months before 9/11

  • @FuriousPumpkin A year before actually. Remember it like it was yesterday.

  • that afro is epic

  • anybody that doesn't consider this one of the greatest things they've ever seen is a moron

  • @brandnew2204 LOL

  • I am the one armed scissor

  • they look like the music should be way louder...

  • Anybody know what year this is from?

  • If this was on radio, it would be shit. But on tv it's fucking awesome .

  • @raem94 that's one way to put it. lol

  • holy energy!!

  • Omar, a beast!

  • this is pretty kool

  • i miss at the drive in :-( but mars volta is amazing i love them both

  • They drag rhythmically fucking a lot that's why the performance is terrible. I love ATDI but I know this is shitty performance. (The song still manages to be great though)

  • @OwrKeeng it's not shitty is energic lol

  • it's energetic music but it's fucking sloppy and drags.

  • @OwrKeeng Trust me live it's better to be energetic than tight. You and maybe 2 other musicians in the crowd care, everyone else is just blown away.

  • I agree but you can be energetic and not be sloppy

  • No argument there.

  • yea but cmon on their presence is dynamite. it's pretty difficult shit to pull off the insane moves they were doin and playin every note on spot.

  • I agree with OwrKeeng, this performance was pretty shitty. It may have energy, but it is VERY sloppy. They just weren't together.

  • @wonderboyjohnny

    that's rock and roll

  • Well I'm sorry but they all dance like they're on drunks. At least they're a good band...

  • they are on drunks..

  • lmao. You think they could at least take the time to be sober for fans no?

  • they party

  • Clearly. Oh well. Power to them, they still make the money and have fun.

  • Why is it bad for them to be lively on stage? I don't get it. I very much doubt they're completely wasted as they're playing tightly enough.

  • There is a diffrence between lively and complete crazyness.

  • That's true, but this is liveliness. Complete craziness would also include a lack of instrumental and rhythmic ability. Complete craziness like Jim Morrison playing "The End" in the gig referenced in the film. Is there something wrong with how At The Drive In are playing here?

  • Lmao. Jim Morrison. I was talking about the way they dance not the way they performed with there instruments and vocals. They're is a diffrence as you know. If I found the preformance in general bad I would have said so.

  • I'm a big fan, and i sure as hell would love to see a performance like this one :]

  • Sure as hell would make for a good mosh pit :D

  • emm... who's singing at 1:10? :/

  • Guitarist that isn't Omar whose name escapes me at the moment. Right side.

  • Jim Ward the second guitarist!!!!

  • thats jim ward singing man.

cedric doesnt sing the "get away"

  • @archer1982

    The white guitarist

  • MUMMIFIED

    CIRCUITRY

  • Afro

  • Why indeed it is!

  • life sucks

  • Comment removed

  • i love Omar Rodriquez Lopez, he's such a wacked out giutarist.

  • most powerful Letterman performance I've seen.

  • I find with this song in particular, you can see how much these guys influenced the band Billy Talent. BT is not quite as good of an execution, but an interesting band nonetheless

    .

  • i know hey thank you for saying something....i mean...if you listen to one armed scissor....and then listen to like "try honesty"....or "line and sinker"....they have the same kinda vibe...which is fantastic!

  • if by influence you mean did copious amounts of drugs prior during and post preformance than you'd be right

  • Now that you mention it, you're right! I love Billy Talent, but certainly you can see the similarity here, of course, BT, like any pupil, is still lacking a bit.

  • And also if you were in a band and knew you had a spot on t.v. for you to do a performance, wouldn't you perform the hell out of it?

  • Even if it was, it's better than just standing there not getting into your performance. I mean really...I just find it hard to not enjoy it. The energy is amazing.

  • what i don't get about the Zaval- De la Rocha comparissons is that Cedric does NOT rap!!! so why could you confuse them???

  • A knife?

  • I think it's a needle rather than a knife...

  • great band i couldnt be more proud that they are from el paso tx my home town(tear)

  • your a joke teenagefreedomfightr, that name is retarded and RATM is not like at the drive in or the other way around. they sound completely different and both are good

  • As for names... Maybe ironic hypocrisy is over your head.

Although due to the tasteless such as yourself I can't actually see what I posted before I can assume. If you can't see the vocal impression for the first half of the song you are clearly deaf.

  • they both started around the same time, you just think that cause he sounds slightly like zach

they are both mexican american and rap most of their songs

  • He does sound quite a bit like de la Rocha but I wouldn't attribute that to the fact that they both have Mexican heritage. Although yes the rapping would be a large part of both of there styles. Zach was professionally performing many years before Zavala and nationally popular at least 3 years before him.

  • at the drive in were so ahead of their time- still one of my all time favorite bands- i just saw tmv last month the show kicked so much ass but its like cedric lost energy or will to be energetic if atdi WOULD re-unite it would probably be epic for 1 quick tour and thats it just for those of us that didnt get a chance to see them live or those that were privileged that would love to see them again

  • im so in love with at the drive in

and i agree they are sort of ahead of their time....

i wish they would have a reunion......

    or atleast never broke up....

  • Almost pisses me off watching this, fuck mars volta and fuck sparta. atdi forever!

  • tmv are alright, nothing on atdi though

  • Imagine how awesome it would be if they re-made ATDI with Cedric, Omar, Juan, and Thomsas and maybe Paul.

Would be 10x better than what they were.

  • i dont really see the point of reuniting atdi theyre music sounds good for theyre year but now it would be lame...and if they try and do anything else i think it would not sound like atdi so i dont see the point...

  • I love how long Omar's hair is in this!

  • I love IT!!!! These guys were great

  • Freeze Frame 0:04

    Insert Facial Hair&Swastikas

    Oh Shit, Chauvinism.

  • i dont get it

  • At the drive-in went tits up for various reasons, after relationship of command. Then they all went away for a while, and the guys with the big hair formed Mars Volta, the others formed Sparta. Good god i wish i'd seen atdi when they were together... *sighs*

  • Dang. Wish I saw them when they were together. Mars Volta doesn't do it for me. Sparta was ok. ATDI was the freaking bomb though.

  • the singer looks just like the singer 4rm the mars volta

  • the singer and guitarist ARE the mars volta

  • so they have 2 bands? wow learn something new every day

  • RATM and Nirvana in one

  • youre retarded

  • i agree with lilfatmike except greenday doesnt suck.... u have no idea if u wouldnt have said that u would have actually sounded mature

  • Green Day blows

  • Every dildo who is saying The Mars Volta is better than Sparta or Sparta is better than TMV, you assfucks need to shut the fuck up and enjoy BOTH bands. You have no idea how fucking stupid you are to limit yourself to one band when you can have twice the music and less negativity. Good music needs to stick together so that we the fans can allow the good bands to survive and not allow bullshit Green day bands to be on tv.

  • i agree!!

  • YEAH!!!... except Sparta has nothing on The Mars Volta...

  • they have everything over the mars volta

  • God!!

  • Omar looks funny w/o glasses, looking back.

  • its funny how sparta mars volta and at the drive in came from my hometown

  • not all of the mars volta is from your town

  • YES !!! DavySolaris you are soooo RIGHT !!! many thanks to you !

  • dont kill me guys but these guys were so, so much better than Mars Volta...

  • and Mars Volta is so so much better than Sparta.

  • um...no

  • Ya but if blah blah shut up god go dissect your tiny minds in solitude

  • Still makes me sad that I never got to see them live. I had tickets to go see them at the Huntridge ( Vegas ) and about a week before the show, they were no more. But the video shows that there was clearly a divide between Omar / Cedric and the rest of the band.

  • "But the video shows that there was clearly a divide between Omar / Cedric and the rest of the band." And its not only the afro's :P

  • I know he's not but why does it look like he's lip syncing?

  • bad video/audio sync on youtube

  • cedric wouldn't. just not him. he'd rather not do the show

  • ahueeeeeeeeeeevo que bandonon!!

  • AMAZING

  • I adore this song!!!!! And im really getting into The Mars Valto

  • haha fuck this is so raw, love it love it

  • You can't really compare TMV and ATDI. 2 completely different styles. You can say you like one more, but that's opinion. ATDI was based on pure energy, TMV is much more produced and layered over. I like ATDI's method much better.

  • I agree

  • haha two crazy MotherF...., omar and cedric, Guerilla!

  • 1:15

    maddest flip of all time?

  • i really believe ATDI is far better than TMV... just listen to "alfaro vive, carajo!" or any of the early ep's those songs are just magnificent

  • hmm...2 different styles of music..but comparing tallent...TMV has much more lol

  • that made me tired lol

In my opinion ATDI is better but TMV is a very good band.

  • Well sure ATDI was much more excilirating live but they got older and dint wanna play that kind of music anymore. I think the the mars volta is far better, every record they put out is incredible.

  • Just a little Poll: What did you guys think of the Bedlam in Goliath? I thought it was musically brilliant, But I thought that Cedric's Vocals were too over-processed. I believe that he should stick to the Raw Vocals like in ATDI or DeLoused.

  • I go back and forth over that. The music, no doubt, is amazing, and Thomas' drumming definitely gives it a new feel (in a good way). There are times when I really dig Cedric's vocals. Like the opening of the album for instance. Other times, however, I'd prefer it if it wasn't so processed. I don't dislike it. I can't blame them for wanting to try something new. Cedric probably thought, "Omar gets to use cool effects! I want to too!"

  • Whatever TMV can have the Afro Brothas at least Sparta is closer to At The Drive-In's sound.

  • sparta is the a shitty band.

    do actually listen to them?

  • Sparta just has a different sound. I prefer TMV but Sparta is horrible, they're still better then all the other mainstream crap.

  • Fail, metal is about CREATING peace. It's a different kind of peace, but it's a peace through unity and music.

    I know, it's a chain post.

  • Metal is just a style of music. like all styles of music. To give it some other 'higher' meaning is just gay.

And lame. and also a fail.

  • Damn, got me there.

  • wow. just wow

  • having seen both mars volta and at the drive-in both twice i enjoyed atdi allot more live. but De-Loused In The Comatorium is an amazing album, was a fav of mine for a while.

  • Mars Volta

  • i miss the screaming :( if the mars volta could incorporate that into one of their songs it would be awsome

  • Which is a better preformance... Volta on letterman or this?

  • The Mars Volta.

  • this

  • This, Cedric doesn't sound very good live when singing with the Mars Volta.

Though I have to mention that Thomas Pridgen is a BEAST.

  • Agreed.

  • you can tell they were hella into drugs when they were At the Drive In

  • I love at The Drive In, and another good band to check out is The Color Turning.... they are awesome!

  • A ride to remember!, man what a cool recording

  • im better :)

    then you

    syke

  • Between At the Drive in and Mars Volta I think Volta is better. What badass band you know can "crush you head" with a guy the plays saxaphone and a drummer with 6 limbs. Love ATDI song too, but.

  • This is to the fucker that says the Mars Volta sucks. Go to your room and be a faggot there. There are plenty of bands better than At the Drive-In, but no one is better than the Mars Volta. Sparta just flat out sucks and you suck.

  • There is definately better bands than mars volta u just have to do some research.... Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, etc.... Take a good listen and you'll hear those influences in M.V. But to say no other is better is simply naive and ignorant. Thank you and have a good day!

  • suck my cock bitch! invite your mother too!

  • sparta does flat out blow dick..mars volta is the truth though
