  • "Zamiast Blackmoore'a miał być Wateeers,

z Gillanem nagrali, Smoke on the Water"!

  • like pink floyd a much better band in the early years

  • Back when you had to be badass to write music

  • What a great song. It's really surprising it's not more famous. Ritchie using wah-wah... pretty different sound And Lord's solo... My goodness, it's hypnotizing.

I love this progression and baroque feel of the harpsichord .

  • Orgasm from 4:33

  • I commend the efforts of anyone being as fanboyish to deep purple as I. But I need to say i like Yanka Dyagileva too.

  • 3:59 Just imagine Mozart would have known how well his harpsichord would have gone with a nice set of drums and a bass... Oh well, thank god Deep Purple did. This is one of my favourite pieces of music ever.

  • 2:19 :P

  • Evans, Paice and Blackmore are awesome on this track !

  • There is one error in this video. They show Glover and Gillan on the pictures. This was the period with Rod Evans and Nicky Simper. This is not a big case however. This tune is the best from this first period of DP together with the tune April.

  • @rkj1963

    I Know

  • This song is soooo beautiful and underrated. Compare this masterpiece for example with the crap from Justin B, Lady Gaga and Rianna

  • @rkj1963

    I Agree

  • @rkj1963 don't bother! Let them do what they will! Anyway, this was a time when musicians could take chances and recording companies weren't led by accountants

  • Not a single photo of Deep Purple Mark I.

  • Deep Purple Is GGGGGGreat

  • I do empathise with the sentence you reacted on.

Only 1 minor problem : I cannot remember that I wrote that and why on that moment : (

  • This song scores 1 Randall and 3 Hopkirks :)

Wonderful. the harpsicord is amazing, sounds like some old horror movie, brll. Rod was completely brilliant. mind you. Gillan !! crikey .. what a couple of vox !

  • FUCK bands like Radiohead and Coldplay, nirvana and more shit.

  • @purpelaar Why?

  • MY FAVOURITE TRACK ON THIS LAST ALBUM (WITH ROD AND NICKY) FOUND THE ALBUM COVER DESIGN REALLY WEIRD NOT AS GOOD AS THE 2 PREVIOUS ALBUMS ("SHADES" AND "BOOK OF TALESIN") JON LORD'D HARPSICHORD PLAYING IS BRILLIANT

  • When Radiohead released 'Just', I thought 'hello, they must dig Mk1 Purple' since the opening chord sequence of that song is identical to the final section of this.

  • I've been listening to Deep Purple for 30 years but i don't recall hearing this song, where did it come from ? And yes, Ian's drum style and tone were fantastic in these early years ! Will in Western Mass.

  • I love this Song... that´s so amazing...

  • Deep Purple mk I.. great!

  • love this tune and lalena from the1st period of DP, thanx

  • reminds me of ELP

  • @c4sp3r91 nice baldwin electric harpsichord on this like cities by the moody blues

  • @spacepatrolman Thanks for sharing this, Mike. These guys were the brainchild of Chris Curtis -- so his memory lives on, which must have made him very happy. RIP, Dear Chris.

  • @ChrisCurtisFan it was his idea to have a group called roundabout with various people in it at various moments so you didnt have to always go on the road he redecorated jon lords apartment with silver paper and tracked down ritchie blackmore in france

  • Anyone what Rod Evans is up to these days?

  • @anonymouslolxD He were a paramedic in L.A after his career in music. But he's probably retired.

  • @anonymouslolxD deep purple was funny on that playboy show bill cosby owned their record company

  • i fucking love this song

  • oops Sorry I was 6 years old..

  • Saturday Noon.

I'm Siting in my house's grandmam.

wish to sit there again and to sing this Melodys..

Now I'm 42 and stil love Deep Purple

    Moti Gabson Israel

  • i love the organ riff and the drumming at 2:47

  • This song reminds me of when my high school girlfriend and I broke up. I still have the album even though it's a bit worn from playing the shit out of it! The best MK1 album in my opinion!

  • The three Deep Purple Mark I albums are among my most-favorite records of all.

  • That harp tune sounds so familiar! damn..I can't remember where I heard it, and it's bugging me! Anyway, greeeat song! Thanks a million for uploading, rbsza

    5 stars

  • @Kynatics now I remember! Lord played something similar to it for the intro of Speed King.

  • beautiful !!

  • Rod Evans & Nick Simper in our hearts :-)

  • Great song, great vocal, great era.

  • esta es una de las canciones mas completas de deep purple y mejor hechas.........el pero es que todas son asi!!!!!!!!

  • gRACIAS POR SUBIR ÉSTA ROLA!!!

  • Man, what an awesome voice Rod has. Something about it. draws me in. Phenomenal. Thanks for posting. Man, I'd love to see Rod come back. He was great with Captain Beyond, another fantastic band, but that was the last I heard of Rod. BIG SIGH!!!!

  • that solo blows my mind every time

  • plus you don't hear Blackmore with wah-wah too often. Love the Lord's outro.

  • The second pic is the one I took at Stuttgart 1995 for ENGL Amps advert (0'05")

  • Rod Evans-what a great vocal!

  • Thanks for posting this. Deep Purple's 3rd album is one of their best. This song is perfect - makes me think of the countryside. I even think The Stranglers were prompted to write Golden Brown by hearing this gem.

  • the deepest purple school guys !!

  • one of my fav d purple song, really special

  • 40 Jahre lang hab' ich diesen Titel gesucht - und hier gefunden! Vielen Dank an rbsza !!

  • this song is one of a kind !

  • more emotion ..................dana italy

  • Right after this di Evans help form Captain Beyond? Great post, thanks.

  • For me this was the best incarnation of Deep Purple ! Rod Evans was a great vocalist : )

  • Deep Purple Mark I, II, III and IV were great

  • They used a baldwin electric harpsichord same as the moody blues.

  • First Deep Purple Vocalist is Rod Evans and he sounds god. I like this band all my life. All DP vocalistic was very good. But without Ritchie band not enought Deep pure Purple. Love & Peace. BEST BAND EVER!

  • @cliffaku Purple has been without richie for many years and they have many incredible songs. They had a number of good singers and guitar players.Lord and Paice are now gone as well...But Purple still lives-

  • @gumbyonacid Paice the only original member from MK 1 no longer in DP?

  • @Dimagg1973 i was under the impression he left the band. Not positive

  • @gumbyonacid

Purple is dead since Ritchie left and even more so after Jon Lords departure.

They are now like a sick animal struggling to its grave.

  • Ian Paice is grooving wonderful!!

  • What a beatiful piece of instrumental song

    Jon Lord is the master

  • is there a mistake in lyrics....?

"but the seasons changed too fast, Leaves us all behind, BLIND."

  • No, it's not Gillan, it's Evans...I think Purple tried to find someone who sounded like Evans, and Gillan did...with a bit more pizzazz, with the screams and all...although Evans is awesome, obviously!

  • Blackmore, Lord and Paice wanted to give DP a more heavy rock orientation : it is why they chost Ian Gillan as their new singer

  • It's Rod Evans, incredible writer and vocalist!!!!!!

  • isn't it Ian Gillen who's singing?

  • Un pezzo da grandi professionisti.

  • this song has been stuck in my head like for the last 3 days especially that harpsichord solo

  • Thats a baldwin electric harpsichord there is a picture of them in the studio gathered around john lord playing it [ I agree with the previous comments that rod evans was the best singer im not the only one that thinks this is their best album ] .

  • This is just wonderful

  • queste prime canzoni dei deep purple, come le altre hanno dentro Magia . :-)

  • i never would have gused this was a love song i always pictured other things when i lisighin to it.

  • dude...u should respect Rod Evans a little bit more...and not showing pictures of MK II... that is called respect to early years and to the person that sings...and that s not Ian Gillan..

  • The best line up by Deep Purple by far. I preffered the music and Rod evens on Vocals too !

Ian paices drumming was far more inventive around this time too ! Theres traces of Buddy Rich in some of the fill in's on this track ! WONDERFUL !

  • Very good song... much better than what is played by DPtoday.

  • Rod Evans on vocals.

  • Ok ON VOCAL

  • "Blind" is one of the great songs from the early years of the band with Rod Evans as vocalist.

I particularly like the cembalo played by Jon Lord

  • Music from this era was awesome. that's all I have to say.

  • Geddy Lee is my step dad. Led Zepplin Sucksss!!! and Deep Purple is cool

  • whos jeddy lee?

  • geddy lee is a vocalist and bassist from Rush. Excellent vocalist and bassist by the way)

  • That's awesome!!!

  • Love the ending in this song. Paice's drumming that nice bass from nicky and the great bit Jon plays on what use to be called a Harpsicord.

  • and i made all lyrics for DP

  • gracias por proveer este material, me encanta la etapa Rod de los DP, fueron tres hermosos albumes.Un abrazo púrpura.

  • I am sorry for bringing this up about my uncle being Rod Evans, rbsza, I am sorry for doing this on your video blog. I suppose I was just wanting a little bit of attention for once because I never really get attention at school or at home. I just not want all the people who watch this video to forgive me, I don't mean to ruin peoples' enjoyment on this website. bengativo6, i am really sorry for arguing you in the first place, I should have not insulted you I just should have shut up. Sorry.

  • no problems,Christapharao

  • kk thanx

  • @christapharaoh Wow, this guy is your uncle? That's some performance he did on this old track! My brother had this in an 8-track cassette once, and that was a long, long time ago! Still, I remembered it, and some other songs with it like: April, Lalena, Chasing Shadows, The Bird has flown, etc.. It was beautiful then, just like I remembered! I couldn't think of what the title to this one was, and had to do some research. If he's still alive, tell him an old fan is impressed and nostalgic!

  • @christapharaoh huhauhuahuahuhauhuahahahuahhauhahhuaha

  • @christapharaoh long time not seeing you, where have you been you fucking tool!!??still with the ideA that rod evans is your uncle??

  • @bengativo6 I'm not going to stoop to your level, but I am going to say that I never lied about Rod Evans being my uncle. I don't have any way of proving it to an obvious troll such as you, so I will just ignore your bad grammar and go on with my life that is in every way more important than your sorry existence. Case closed

  • @christapharaoh

    Relax christian

  • @rbsza Hey I'm not the one getting so worked up. bengativo6 apparently can't handle the idea that a human being can be related to another human being.

  • @christapharaoh rod was the best singer they ever had a really smooth singer like engleburt he has a beautiful voice their songs were better with him a lot of people that are serious about deep purple think this is their best album[ i remmeber seeing him on upbeat ]

  • Me I'm one of these guys who always said that DP Mark 1 was the REAL BIG STORY of the 60s and that Mark 2 was just another grat band, but the sound was gone.

    thx for this clip

  • you are a retard man dont get me wrong but you are a retard!!i really mean it.if anything i could do to help the mental defficient i would really give some money i would not mind helping the ones who needs help.man i offer you my hand .you aint ok in the head trust me.you doubt it?mom dad sit with your little retard for a while see what he does over the internet.he needs to lie to be loved.that aint right mom dad take care of your little son

  • Rod Evans is my uncle

  • That's nice to know that he is your uncle

  • :P i just kinda proud of him...i dont mean to boast or anything

  • yeah, I have same chances of being cleopatra as you being related to rod evans.....

  • bro drop it that argument is almost a year old now, and i actually am related to rod evans so just shut up and dont reply

  • ye sure ^^ i am Ceasar myself as well ^^

  • dude forget about k? thx

  • you what now?

  • nothing, its not like anybody believes me

  • yeah i wonder why...lol

  • just forget about it ok? the argument is over

  • christapharaoh you're a faggot.

  • stfu fagbag REJECTED

  • Comment removed

  • NopehereallyismyuncleIswearit.

  • you are a funny guy.i love you man you demonstrate you are sweeter and friendlier than a dog.maybe he is your uncle even tough he is not.but keep believing if it makes you feel good.its pointless to argue with you.have a great day

  • *sigh*

  • @christapharaoh .yes we trust you.we do .if that makes you happy.now fetch it up my little sweet dog.fetch it up.there you go doggy.dont bark too much at your uncle.

  • Ah, yes! Back when Ian Paice did the "jazz" drumming. I mean, he still does the amazing Buddy Rich "jazz" solos now; but he certainly doesn't approach songs like this anymore-& they certainly don't write like this anymore. I love it-& the long song 'April' that's on this album as well.

  • Does anybody know where the hell Rod Evans is now??

  • Rod Evans vocals were so incredibly emotional on this song...just incredible.

  • yeah rod evans is my uncle

  • i heard rod evans had a nephew or niece that was seen sucking cock in a l.a ghetto st .corner .he said he had aids .and also down syndrome good to hear from you .nice rod had a nephew that was so stupid like you

  • last night i drank 5 bottles of tequila .i snorted 34 lines of coke.i smoked three joints.i inhaled some freeon. gas and drank some clorox/.hey you know what im still alive does nt it sounds like a bunch of bullshit?mr christaparaohworthless to hear that no?well its the same thing rod evans aint your uncle why would you spend all that time saying that get a life

  • see thats believeablt that hes your uncle but then once you say i swore to my aunt to to tell anyone well that makes it not believable. thats like me saying kurt cobain is my dad, they just didnt want the media to know he had a son, as in of course you would be proud to have some sweet musician in the family, but i think your makin this up

  • i am really sorry for boasting...but...its true and when i said i swore not to tell anybody where he lives, well i have to because i dont want to ruin his life...if there is one thing people should understand is that the stars and musicians get tired of the media, they want to settle down for once. i kind of regret even mentioning it on this blog because people immediately attacked me saying "ur retarded, go to the hospital" or "yeah right, then the easter bunny is my grandpa." im sorry...really

  • ooooooooooooooooh now that makes sence! i thought you ment you would tell your aunt that you would keep it a secret that hes your uncle, not keep it a secret of where he lives hahaha, thats sweet man

  • no lol...sorry for confusin ya, but yeah rod evans is my uncle. i want people to stop gettting on my case though, its kind of annoying, thanks for not cussin me out or anything!

  • u started it m8..i wonder why u have 2 accounts too..and beside that... rod evans is my father..honestly..so that makes us cousins!! hey cousin! where had u been? i missed u so much!

  • are u talking to me? cuz i have 2 accounts for 2 different reasons. one for music and videos and stuff, the other for friends.

  • ye ok..u convince...not!

  • why would you not belive thats why i have two accounts?

  • the reason Evans doesn't want to be in public is he made a stupid move in the 80's. He put together a fake version of Deep Purple.

  • shit man !!come on is just a few bucks . oh my god you can find this album in thousand record stores.and also in thousand mp3 programs oh man.nowadays people dont know how the world used to be couple years before 2006 now everything is the internet .lol.we are fucked now i see lot of people saying i cant find a place to download this song lol.

  • this is the best deep purple song, i love it really amazing!!!

  • GIUSTO è LA MIGLIORE

  • one of my farotites song of deep purple...

  • I love Simper's sound on this. He was the most underrated member IMO.

  • their best song ! why they didnt it live?

  • i agree, their best song

  • very good song, merci

  • it was rod.

  • this is my favorite song of deep purple....amazing

  • This song was recorded before Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined the band. The vocalist you can here is Rod Evans and the bass player is Nick Simper.

  • Rod evans? The first vocalist? The voice of it remembers the Ian Gillan

  • It is definitely Rod Evans. You should check out his other band that he played with a few years later, they were called Captain Beyond. They have some of their videos here on youtube

  • dude no offense but.you need to listen to that deep purple album.really close and then tell me that rod evans is the singer in this song..and if you agree i think you would need to scratch off ian gillian name from your video

  • The original tittle of smoke on the water was dhur dhur dhur,so its dhur dhur dhur dirt dirt dhur dhur,Ian was more of a screamer Rod was smoother.

  • Actually, the original title, before they put lyrics to it..was..Dang Dang Dang..I'm sure you can work out why before you go to brush up on your Deep Purple history.

  • they used a baldwin electric harpsichord so did the moody blues in a coca cola ad on the back of car craft magazine

  • that is true.i have the lp on vinil i mean there cant be such a mistake rod evans sings this one.this sounds like the one on the dp lp .rod evans vocals.nicky simper bass.

  • besides me and 4 other friends sat toghether and listened to the vinyl.and then listened to this on this guy video.and they both match.we came with the obvious conclusion.

nick simper bass.jon lord .harpsicord.ian paice drums.r.blackmore guitar.and .rod evans on vocals
