Thanks for posting this. Deep Purple's 3rd album is one of their best. This song is perfect - makes me think of the countryside. I even think The Stranglers were prompted to write Golden Brown by hearing this gem.

Still, I remembered it, and some other songs with it like: April, Lalena, Chasing Shadows, The Bird has flown, etc.. It was beautiful then, just like I remembered! Ah, yes! Back when Ian Paice did the "jazz" drumming. I mean, he still does the amazing Buddy Rich "jazz" solos now; but he certainly doesn't approach songs like this anymore-& they certainly don't write like this anymore. I love it-& the long song 'April' that's on this album as well.

This song was recorded before Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined the band. The vocalist you can here is Rod Evans and the bass player is Nick Simper.

It is definitely Rod Evans. You should check out his other band that he played with a few years later, they were called Captain Beyond. They have some of their videos here on youtube

besides me and 4 other friends sat toghether and listened to the vinyl.and then listened to this on this guy video.and they both match.we came with the obvious conclusion.
