  • So much analysis here...I'm losing the will to live reading some of these comments! Comparing The Hollies and The Beatles is an exercise in futility. Both led a movement that changed music. Friendly rivals and compatriots. Brilliant musicians, vocalists and performers every one!

  • I specially LOVE this song! It is a incredible piece of art! Thanks for the interpretation, the voice, the music, the lyrics the whole... Love and respect, Allan Clarke!

  • One of Mr. Clarke's finest vocal performances. It received scant attention when released. It is great that his work, both with The Hollies and solo, is now receiving the attention which it deserves. It would be wonderful if he were to make a guest appearance at the London Palladium and at the Hall of Fame ceremony.

  • Very well. Congratulations from Brazil

  • I love Allan Clarke. He's my favorite member of the Hollies. And it saddens me that he's underrated compared to some 'simple' vocal singers who made it big. Personally, if I were to pick, I think he does it far better than John Lennon. And I'm a huge Lennon fan.

  • esta musica saiu no vinil .. disco de ouro difusora.. nos anos 70 ..deste 89 q procuro por coincidencia achei.... valeu

  • Nossa quantas saudades...

  • This song demonstrates what a magnificent voice Allan Clarke had, Numbers like this make me proud to be a Hollies fan.

  • Yes, it is one of the best 'Big Ballads' from Clarkey and the boys.

It would be nice to hear it during next year's tour. I'm sure that Peter would do it justice.

  • Love this song. Reminds me somebody down in Rio. Me Lembro de voce Luiz. Enquanto viver nao te esquecerei.

  • nice song.

  • Why did they copy the titles of Beatles songs such as I'm Down and Don't let me down? they also covered A Taste of Honey and Too Much Monkey business. Are they trying to compete with The Beatles? Just asking..

  • I don't think they were competing with the beatles. As a matter of fact, they were fans of the beatles. And they show the fab four some respect for creating great music. It's no coincidence if some other singers have the same title for their song as the other singers. It can happen to anyone.

  • thanks for your reply. I just wandered because when the Hollies were doing "Too much monkey business" one guy imitated John and sang a line from "I feel fine" and they were, sort of, mocking John or the beatles s a group. But The Hollies really did better on that song. I think Clark's voice is a bit better than John's. Especially when I heard "Long Cool woman In a Black Dress".

  • I agree that you think Clarke's voice goes far than Lennon. Personally, I don't think the Beatles are fantastic singers at all, rather, they're fantastic songwriters. Lennon is a one-of-a-kind songwriter and that what fascinates me about him, not really his singing voice. Clarke; on the other hand, has just a remarkable voice, such talent!

Anyway, No my friend, I don't think so that when Graham sang a part of the beatles' piece was an insult...

  • Well, it don't matter to me anyways if they were insulting the beatles or not. it just made me curious why they did that. they just really had fun that time. i was wrong though to say that Clarke's voice is a bit better than John. He's actually much better. I learned it when i listened to "He aint heavy, he's my brother". would have been great if here with the beatles.

But yes you are also right, The beatles were just a better songwriter, maybe in fact the best of all time.

  • Alan the great Balladeer, no question, John the great rock n roller, no question, but neither was great at both.

  • ...They just felt like doing it so because well y' know...they were in a good mood and their energy level is just high and they just want to have some fun! :) and the beatles hits are just full of fun. So, yeah, it was no big deal to me.

  • a taste of honey was done totally different and wasnt a beatles origional. every beat group seemed to do too much monkey business. i love the beatles and the hollies and they both had their own individual styles

  • I just wandered because there's a part when the Hollies did "Too Much Monkey Business"one of them sang a line from "I feel Fine" by the Beatles. It seemed to me that they were mocking The Beatles as a whole or John specifically. Then the copying of titles and covering of songs that the Beatles had covered. I think all these was when The Beatles career was already going down. but im not sure if im right. thanks for the reply anyway.

  • That was Graham Nash! It was totally all in good fun. The Hollies loved The Beatles, they were record label buddies at EMI.

  • @erwin021777 The Beatles were also fantastic singers. John had a rocking and rolling voice, and Paul did ballads superbly. George's voice developed better in the group's later years and in his solo work.

  • Oh no! this song belongs to ALLAN only!...if featured on YouTUBE today, i wonder how many hits it would get?...nobody else could come close to doing this song justice..only the HOLLIES!

  • Great song. Reminds me a great love, down under in RIO. I do still love you.

  • I unfortunately was not born early enough to hear all this great music. I am constantly on youtube trying to find music like this. It hits home like nothing on the radio today. This was a great find. What a song to hear for the first time. thansk for posting this

  • I totally agree

  • can someone explain to me, why, this song, didnt hit #1..?,,,,AWESOME, HARMONY, it brings TEARS to my eyes> better, than their biggest hit...it released today it would hit #1..and stay #1 for 6 mos. tks. for posting

  • Yes luvsmuzik1...you're absolutely right! Thinking about what you said...any band that released a song as good as this now, would have a huge hit with it.

  • quem sou eu pra contrariar as opiniões, simplesmente endosso. muito bom!!!!

  • Video makes me sad, miss those times and the talent, great job

  • great video and song,thanks.

    ALLAN is perfection!

  • a great video for a great talent. such a great song

  • 'Don't like the band'? Everyone is entitled to their own taste, but it strikes me from the rest of your comment (the bits I can figure out) that you may have been a bit hasty, friend.

  • confused what he`s saying?????

  • Not confused at all...it's perfectly clear:

He doesn't like the band, but spends a lot of time looking for 'all the 'musics from this band d find for lucky'...?

    The voice 'looks like' someone...?

He DOES like the band...or is it just the song (beautyfull) and NOT the band? Whatever *_*

  • i dont like the band, but this song its just fantastic,i hearded a long time ago n spend a lot of time to try find the music and the band.the voice looks lik the jefferson starship singer.i look all the musics from this band d find for lucky ...any way, beautyfull song!!!!!!!perfect

  • the Allan Clarke voices is better than the jefferson starship singer...

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! Allan Clarke has the voice of an angel. I love him and the Hollies.

  • ME TOO..........FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

  • FOREVER AND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Allan Clarke voice is sweet and sad at the same time. It seem the lament of an injured deer , lost among the shadows of a forest while he is

bleding of love, slowly.Like the same an a rose despised by the moon Oh Lord there is so

much anguish in this song....There are so much light strangled There are so much thirsty love among cells The Allan Clarke voice is a breath that

agonizes for a woman that has left him. A dying beat his last ceremonies of love over this land

  • Beautiful description. It is so apt. You understand and appreciation Allan as we do. You are a true Hollies fan!!!!

  • THANKS! but you know,... my english language is poor
