I love the video. I really don't skate you skate. But I always wanted to meet Tai and Randy. There the ones who inspired me to start skating again. I live in Ohio. My name is Jocelyn Kemp and I'm thirteen years old. If Randy Gardner really is your coach tell him I say hi and that him and Tai inspired me to start skating again.
This tribute makes me smile...T & R are, as they say in their tribute, so any things to each other: co-workers, partners, brother and sister, and yes- spouses. But their love is crystal clear always- and now at 48 and 50 they are like soul mates. Just breathtaking. Thanks for this.
Flag818 - It is a small world... I trained at Santa Monica too. I was training with Darlene Ward and then Mr. Nicks when I blew my knee out. When were you there? (My name is Phil Talsky - your name isn't familiar, but that was a long, long time ago...)
Hello Phil. Hello Sue. I remember you all. Glenn Cohen here. I sharpened skates, drove the Zamboni, etc. at the Santa Monica Ice Capades Chalet in 1978-1979. My claim to fame was in 1980 when I sharpened skates at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. Been out of the business for quite a while now. I stopped by the Fred Segal's a few times over the years, most recently last week with my wife. Memory lane. Bless you all. Hope you're doing well. Glenn
They were...no they ARE still amongst the best. I can't say enough about them...their line, their fluidity, their unision and I coud go on and on. Kudos to Tai that she was able to get her life back together and to Randy for having the courage to come out. They honestly do not make them like that anymore, great skaters and great individuals.
No one that you would know. They trained in Santa Monica at the old Ice Capades Chalet, and I trained there as well. My coach was Mabel Fairbanks, who was responsible for getting Tai and Randy together. Randy's brother was my dentist.
That's really weird! I live up in Santa Clarita, and my son plays ice hockey. I'm at the ice station all the time. I actually thought that I saw him there last Monday, but wasn't sure. We should meet and say hi.
Oh my goodness. I am so glad I found this clip. Ever since I was a little girl (I am an 80s child), The Tai Babilonia story has been my favorite. I watched it over and over and over again--way more than Disney movies.
It feels so good to connect with someone who shared the experience in a different way.
can anyone tell me the correct name of some music they skated to - very similar to her name ???????? Thais ???????
thanks

I skated with them over thirty years ago. There was no one like them then, and there is no one like them now.
