Please come to the discussion to follow up the events of January 19th. Here is the Facebook event. Please spread this, "Public discussion on 1.19 UCR protest". It is on Wednesday February 1st at 1pm at the Bell Tower. It will be followed by a march on the UCPD Station.
that's ME at :50 carrying a skateboard and the partition with my friend, to put in front of seated peaceful protesters....does it look like i'm charging police? me and two of my friends were among those shot....can you hear how many went off? they were SO close. they kept shooting even when we were way far back. you can see how the police tried to initiate violence repeatedly. how in the world is shooting into a crowd going to de-escalate anything?
Absolutely disgusting. Chief Diaz has allowed his dept. to play mercenaries for hire! I can no longer say I support the Riverside Police Dept. if this is how they treat the taxpayers that pay their checks. We'll see how long it takes them to grow up and remember who they serve.
It's funny thought, because if every UC student in CA did this, it would absolutely have an effect, but I don't see this happening so much as there being a slow decline in attendance as prices reach absurd levels.
I'm getting extremely tired of police brutality in the face of peaceful protests. When I know that those students...so young...are facing a lifetime of crushing debt in a ruined economy while 1% bankster regents, who BENEFIT FINANCIALLY from student loans, destroy the great PUBLIC universities of California...well, it's an absolute outrage. Heap this disgusting violence on top of that makes me incandescent. Welcome to fascism. The boot. On the face. Again and again.
Fucking cowards. Hiding behind their body armor and batons. These are the people that should be locked in cages like the animals they are: these pathetic excuses for humanity we call the police.
And people say videogames and movies have desensitized us to violence... Nobody here was injured. The police officer was pushing them back with the baton because they were gettin' all up in his grill and he couldn't see. If you think there was violence in this video, you don't know what the meaning of the word "violence" is.
Anyone who complains about being shoved, jabbed with batons, shot with pellet guns or paintball guns, tased, pepper sprayed for protesting, peaceful or not, needs to take a second, back up a bit, and watch the syrian protests, then watch civil rights riots in the 60s. We American's seem to differ on what entails "police brutality" because I think you are spoiled.
SPREAD THIS VIDEO. i watched it on globalrevolution livestream last night, right after a video of violence in syria. it was hard to tell at first what country this was coming from. WE need to make sure THE WHOLE WORLD watches this video, because the main stream media is not telling the story, and this is not the america that most people know...yet.
The protestors are not peaceful, no matter how many times they chant it. They are confrontational. The protestors "demanding" that the regents meet with them is, by itself, a word that explains that this was not peaceful.
@ihaveacar Yep, I agree with you ihaveacar. The protestors seem to think that if they say "peaceful" many many times that somehow it will be peaceful.
In Berkeley we held a one-day strike after our Chancellor used police batons against us, demanding his removal, defending our right to free speech, and our other demands around public education. We drove the Chancellor out at a recent public appearance, and now we're occupying one of our libraries. I think Riverside should also respond by escalating and continuing the fight. If you continue to stand up, you will have Berkeley's full support. SOLIDARITY!!
this shit is going to get bigger and bigger, down with capitalism, down with the international banking cartels, up with humanity. The rightful rulers of the world are the people not the banks and there money!
Police are instigators, it's alright for them to attack you but if you fight back in defense you will get slapped with a felony charges, a way to keep ppl down and stay in low level paying jobs.
I just called the uc Riverside police and told the operator they should be shameful about what happened, and she replied back I should be shameful aswell.
@hapch100 Wow! Sounds to me you really got under her skin and that they've been catching a lot of s*#!. Congrats Riverside for fighting. You have our total support and solidarity from Berkeley!!
UC Davis and UC Berkeley keep getting the worst of it. The same place where students were shot and killed by police in the 60s. Occupy Yakima stands with you in solidarity!
I'll wait till the other side pots their videos about this situations; just like the did for the UC DAVIS incident. And we all know how that went. You know, like they say, there's always two sides to the story. Moral of the story, never antagonize cop?
I wonder what would happen if these protesters ever started shooting non-lethal projectiles at the police under the auspices of protecting their safety.
@JoelBitarProductions I bet you a good portion of them are paying (in part or full) some of the exorbitant tuition that has many of the people out there.
@whiteguyphil No excuse for using violence in order to defend the status quo a.k.a. oppress the middle class for the benefit of the rich. The class war is alive and well. The police are an oppressive institution, no doubt about it.
I really don't like these small clips, they do both sides an injustice by not showing the whole chain of events and can easily be taken out of context (kinda like the mainstream media does). I am not condoning what the police did, but it seemed to be directed at the individuals carrying the metal crowd divider. In a situation as presented above, it could be misconstrued as a weapon. UCR is my alma mater, it is surreal to see this happening on familiar ground.
@lepermessiah01 The police are dressed in full riot gear. Do you really think they are intimidated by the assembly of a movement known around the world for it's commitment to nonviolence? On the contrary, it is the deployment of riot cops against peaceful assemblies on UC campuses that is intended to be intimidating.
@lepermessiah01 BAHAHAHA "intimidating" the police. the antonym of peace given by webster's dictionary is "war". last time i checked, bullets hurt more then words.. This is how social reform is achieved. proof? grab your closest U.S. History book...from highschool. problem solved, problem staying solved, rangers lead the way. (AFT)
@lasarmasputos You're obviously misinformed. I was there. at 0:50. I wasn't doing SHIT, except standing there. Hell I wasn't even chanting, yet I got shot too. Explanation pl0x?
@silentxriver The police do not see the silent peaceful protestors in a crowd of people shouting and holding signs in front of their faces. Your mistake may have been sitting too close to those protestors wearing masks and escalating an already tense situation. Put yourself in their shoes, what would you be feeling facing a few hundred unknown shouting individuals who seemingly have no respect for you?
@whiteguyphil In their shoes, that's even easier. You don't open blind fire into a crowd. That was more like a panic move, which is horrible coming from a supposedly trained officer.
@silentxriver you are obviously missing the point... What happened to get this trained officer in a panic? Peaceful protesters do not put people in a state where they feel they have to open fire into an unarmed crowd. Keep in mind I am in full agreement with the message of the protest and am playing "devil's" advocate.
@lasarmasputos With these "he said, she said" situations you can never really tell what happened, who predicated the actions that took place. Whatever the whole story is, very few people will be privy to it unfortunately. Makes me wonder how the history books will write this period of time out....
@whiteguyphil Those cops were idiots who panicked too soon. They should be trained not to react to any little thing, especially words. The only time they should ever react is to physical force. And I don't think there's ANY reason to open fire into an unarmed crowd if hypothetically one protester crossed the line.
according to their own words....you're the tool....are you gonna like be a millionaire someday or something? wish you b.o.b. so tyler would....nevermind
