Can't stop playing this video as it causes my heart to lurch with memories of the sixties and seventies. So sad to hear of her death and the end of an era.
Probably put this at the top my own funeral music list as I've done a huge amount of travelling. Not maudlin, just great times with proper music and musicians!
Those of us born in the 50's raised in the 60's were witnesses to greatness.....We new it was good back then but now we see it for its grandness that it was...wow, she was beautiful throughout and they gave us such wonderful memories and inspiration....my heart aches every time I hear them knowing that the times they are a changing. Thanks for posting this series, the black and whites are crystal clear.
@chev39rsh Well , I just turned 62, and miss mary Travers very much, and our youth, where did it Go....In the Blink of an eye its past........ Their voices werwe like fine wine....., what a great song , I just listened to Elvis"s version here, Live...wow so many Memories, and Greatness Just like you said.......Peace Brother...
is this a show which ends with "down, down by riverside" ? where to download this, or buy, whatever but I must have this after I saw ending now on arte tv channel.
These PPM videos came from 2 different shows - 1 credited as 1965 and the other 1966.
The ones where Mary is wearing the white dress came from the show credited as 1965, the rest ,where Mary is wearing the other dress ,were credited to 1966.
Im only going by that info.
If it was all the one show and it was only a costume change and a different audience brought in then I stand corrected.
Note in this arrangement how gentle and careful the harmonies develop. There is something very organic about the blend of voices. This is one of my "Death Bed" tunes. Tunes I wish to hear as I lay dying. If you have any suggestions from any artists, please let me know. Bless you Mary. I'll see you soon.
@electricslipper "Piper to the end", from a live Mark Knofpler concert in Lucca Italy. It's on you tube". If you can't find it email me at wbravo66@optusnet.com.au and I'll email you a copy. Worthy to be played at a funeral. Just a piece of pure genius, just like PPM.
Amen to that. People would be better mortals if we would ponder a while on some of the things they sang and realize they wished for a better world like so many still today
Mary, so sad you have left us but your voice and Peter and Pauls songs that I grew up and we used to sing will stay with me always, part of my history. Thanks for the music, the lovely harmony, songs and memories
Peter Yarrow served three months for trying to rape a fourteen year old in 1970. Jimmy Carter pardoned him as Carter was leaving office in 1981. Yarrow was married to a Democrat senator's niece at the time. Mary Travers never condemned Yarrow or his actions. Sorry she's dead, but she's an enabler of a child molester.

Peter, Paul, and Mary always make it show that they have a story to tell within and outside of themselves with every song that they sing. It's so lovely the way that they can do that. We will miss you, my dear Mary.
Bodies pass, but we are spiritual beings, and we are all responsible for each other, and everyone of us can help others and set an example, just as Mary Travers did. Thank you Mary for the beautiful music, and for being a fine person.
There is a 3rd mike lower down for the guitars, but yeah, you would expect that they would have a mic for each. Still brilliant song and a great video!
If they ever do a movie about Peter, Paul and Mary.....Well,I don't know about Peter or Mary.....but...Nicholas Cage HAS to be Paul.....if there wasn't such a difference in the timeline...I'd swear they were separated at birth.

A great song composed by Canadian Gordon Lightfoot first recorded by Ian and Sylvia.

Mary should have been given her own mike so she wouldn't have to lean.
infinera06 2 years ago
them getting close while singing was part of their appeal i reckon, dont see it these days with modern mikes
angelajknight 2 years ago
I think getting close had to do more with hearing each other than anything else. It's an acoustic thing.

Well it does belong to Gordon Lightfoot, but you're right PPM do sing it very well. I quite prefer it to the Lightfoot version.
