It's probably your Blu-ray lense on your PS3 that's really dirty, or much more likely it's broken and needs to be repaired. Try either to clean your lense by using a Maxell Lense Cleaner for Blu-Ray players as they work on consoles, or find a local console repair shop. Most local shops will repair the Blu-Ray lense without wiping the hard drive, but to make sure make the request to avoid wiping the drive.
Google or look on Yelp for local AV shops that repair video game consoles.

@BonzBoi19 you will have the stimulas map packs still on your ps3 account, but u will have to upload them again to your ps3 if you get me, same with all your downloads, so no you wont lose it. but if its the same problem as mine, restoring it wont do anything. you need a new blu ray lens...an stop leavin your discs in when you turn it off because apparently thats the problem
I had this problem, took me all of ten minutes to find a tempory fix. Go onto a demo and then press the ps button. Discs then come up on the XMB thing under the game logo. Just click the disc it will say about quittin the demo click yes... n here u have it... u cn get onto COD... I no its not a permanent fix but I tryin to help lol..

Its your laser. Its worn out. You can either send your ps3 to sony to get fixed or either buy the right laser depending on which model you have and install it yourself. It isn't hard and im also in process of ordering the lens for my ps3 which has the same problem.

If you've been playing COD5, treyarch has a file in there that makes the disc spin faster than normal, therefore creating a disc read error because of the speed. if you havnt played cod5 well i dont know.

they will send you a replacement ps3 if you send it to sony, they dont fix yours and send it back, but you can still sign on to your account and your online data will still be there, but all your games and saved games are gone!

yeah you dont need a receipt, bt if youve had it under 12 months you still have guarantee so when you send it in, it will be free of cost, but any after 12 months or no exstended warranty you will have to pay 140 pound for a replacment. i just sent mine to a computer repair shop tho an they swapped the blu ray lens which was the problem apparently, cost 60 pound
check if there is a tiny crack on the game like it a tiny line because some of the ps3 game cases mess up ur game i had the same problem i couldnt really notice it on the disk only if u look closely
HERE YOUR PROBLEM do you keep the disc in when it turned of if u have that the problem the ps3 blueray will have to start when the ps3 comeon causing a power surge and he blueray lens will get to much power and it will not work so allways take your discs out when finished

yep mines that, they say sony sent out a few dodgy blue ray lens, so to me that isnt my fault so i went mental wen they wanted 150, the lens itself costs 40, so i got that an took it to a local computer wizard shop, cost 50 quid all together, i know its still 100 cheaper than what sony wanted, its still going strong now il let you know when it packs in if it does lol

yea it happened to me too, i reported sony to the BBB(something we have in america and canada) they lied to me about how it wasn't there fault. i think it was caused from either the most recent update or from resident evil 5 as well, i have that game too

my ps3 has disc read error called sony uk and they said they would replace it for free, even though its out of warranty

It happens to me to....... I suggest you to buy another one because many guys repair it at sony and their ps3 get fucked again...

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I plays everything, but blu-rays! Sometimes if I put the game in while i'm playing a demo then it will wor sometimes, but that's like one out of every 20 times. Sony wants $150 to fix it which I feel is some bullshit, but I guess i will have to pay it or find someone who can fix it. Mine is a backwards compatible 80GB, is yours the same?

yep mines that, they say sony sent out a few dodgy blue ray lens, so to me that isnt my fault so i went mental wen they wanted 150, the lens itself costs 40, so i got that an took it to a local computer wizard shop, cost 50 quid all together, i know its still 100 cheaper than what sony wanted, its still going strong now il let you know when it packs in if it does lol

yeah, you Blu-Ray drive failed, sall sony, there is no way to fix it yourself

ok, so basically your ps3 will eathier have to get sent in for 150$(free if still have warrenty), or fix it yourself (but then will void the warrenty) so do it at your own risk. if you have anymore questions, message me :)

yeah i already told them to stick there 140 pounds(english) my warranty was a month out! my warrantys void now, but my firends having a look at it an getting me a laser,altho i have no idea gow it happend...i did nothing bad to it?

i guess leaving the game on for to long makes it spin for to long and breaks. when i get my ps3 back i will have to take more care of it.

yeah that happned to me mate, everthing works except ps3 games!! i fixed it, but had to open the baby up and clean the blu-ray lens mate, its not easy but follow the tutorials on youtube and hopefully it will work 4 u
