Looking at the most subscribed channels, I see male humor and hot girls. Sounds pretty male-controlled to me.
But that's looking at all of YT. I think when you look closer at people involved in the community, particularly among nerdfighters, the trend does switch to more female-dominant.
Actually, looking at the most subscribed I think it'd be far more interesting to include age in the discussion. How much of YT is controlled by 14 year old girls?
The real question might be: "what is it that motivates people to watch youtube?" As you point out, you visit vloggers almost as a way to think about relationships.
Perhaps there is some correlation that would indicate that sexes skew towards different watching patterns (e.g. men watch videos of people getting hurt, whereas women are more likely to watch cute bunnies). One has to be careful though - stereotyping without data can sometimes be dangerously close to prejudice.
