Men like him are largely forgotten. He died in Tanganyika aged 48, due to war injuries, assisted by malaria, 11 years after leaving the RN. I was five, & we were in the bush in Tanganyika. @landronics Lol, I enlisted in the Navy and leave for Great Lakes 1st of September. I want to defend the Navy in that statement, but after being raised by my dad who's 1st MarDiv Force Recon (Desert Shield/Storm) I honestly know it's true.

@MrRucknroll One major tip I can give is..Being a Recon Marine isn't something you choose to do in the Corps, it's something that chooses you. Do good academically and do good in boot camp, and prove to the Corps, "you have what it takes." Be up for challenges, don't say no to something that looks difficult. Keep your head held high, and hope for the best ;). See ya in the Corps brother!
@shadddey5 The two Ricky Recons I went to boot camp with were scrawny and tiny. Recon isn't always the best of the best. Get that illusion out of your head right now. Start prepping for MARSOC. As for doing good academically? This is the Marine Corps, not Harvard. I do have faith that the boot camp will be harder, though, and if the discipline is stronger than I will be most pleased. @MrRucknroll One major tip I can give is..Being a Recon Marine isn't something you choose to do in the Corps, it's something that chooses you. Do good academically and do good in boot camp, and prove to the Corps, "you have what it takes." Be up for challenges, don't say no to something that looks difficult. Keep your head held high, and hope for the best ;). See ya in the Corps brother!

@shadddey5 The two Ricky Recons I went to boot camp with were scrawny and tiny. Recon isn't always the best of the best. Get that illusion out of your head right now. Start prepping for MARSOC. As for doing good academically? This is the Marine Corps, not Harvard. We have standards, yes, but unless you have a great desire to be a regular at the worst chow halls the military has to offer and be screamed at for stupid shit just walk on by. rah.

I do have faith that the boot camp will be harder, though, and if the discipline is stronger than I will be most pleased. That's why I'm transferring, because Marines keep telling me that the Corps is fucking gung-ho.

A: I've witnessed first hand a rather pudgy Marine Corporal (I don't think he was passing his weight test) get the Hell knocked out of him by a soldier. I've also gotten the Hell knocked out of me by tough-ass Marines, it comes with being stationed with them. Both Marine Corps and Army can be tough.

During peacetime, the army doesn't deploy, the Marines do, the Marines have planes, choppers, ships, tanks & artillery, making them a very effective and mobile fighting force, but they're not first to fight..
