The Millennium Dome should have been up for at least 2001 also. That's because 2000 was the traditional year the new millennium began, and 2001 the actual year. So, having it up in both years.
I wondered if the Millennium Dome didn't close down on 31 December 2000 because it was intended to, right from the beginning. That's just being up for the first year of the new millenium. But I see it must've been from bad comments from the press. So, the press were the real trolls then. It's typical of human nature (and the press) to focus on negative things.
I can't believe that every one is praising this place it was such a disappointment I was expecting to see something I had never seen before a real taste of the future instead we Tommy Cooper brains, washed up plastic bottles that you had to work out what they once were, masses of tv screens, tubes to shout down aand hope somebody would shout back, and shoot foam balls at people not very cutting edge VERY LAME indeed
i worked there and it was a job of a lifetime and it was also a job were we made loads of good friends, it sure is one job that me and 2000 others will never forget
I always get sad about this... I haven't seen my dad since 2000 when I was 7 and anything to do with the millennium brings back unusual memories... it feels so long ago yet I remember it like it was yesterday...
@zcheeseolly Same here I remember it like yesterday - can't believe it has been 11 years now. I feel sad/happy when I think about the Millennium as well. Great year.
Nice! Really like the fact that you have that 'Earth's Core' ride in there. I thought that was a fab attraction. Also loved the 'school' one where you watched a hokey movie about a learning tree - but when it finished the screen 'opened' to reveal a forest which you walked into. Great stuff.
Such a shame that not everyone went to the dome as i guarantee everyone who did will remember it for the rest of their lives, I was 6 at the time and was so inspired by it that it became my ambition to become a scientist which is still want I'm working for now. it was such a unique, extraordinary space that should have been made into a permanent weekend attraction for all to see, the show was incredible too, completely new and I really hope the kind of optimistic experience centre is done again
I remember going when i was about 11, as everyone was raving about it. Personally didn't see what all the fuss was about, even at that age. Human body - rubbish, main show - boring, the rest of it just a very expensive and over-hyped playground. Such a random array of useless bollocks in there. It's better as the 02 arena. Tate Modern would have been a better shout.
I was 8 when I went! 0:59 - I dropped my camera while I was in that room and it slid down the curved floor and hit someone. I got a right bollocking from that guy!
It was pertty cool I guess, not sure it was worth £700Million though, for what is essentially just a tent!
What happened to all the bits that were inside? It should have been sold to a theme park or something.
Yes, it was Christmas eve so they had a special offer where you could pre-book admission at a vastly reduced price (£1 each, I think) which made it excellent value for money.
I was 5 when the dome was open, i never got the time to go. To be honest at that age i diddnt want to go, because i saw E.T. on the tv in the dome, and i was so scared of him then XD haha
i think i had just about turned 14 wen i went there. a big anti climax. the human body and tech stuff was rubbish. the people there were cool tho and the acrobatics made a bit more of a worthwhile visit for me.
@JimLovesShikari same. The dome was amazing. Even better than the science museum, but I was crying all the way throught the body and even when I was outside I was scared to look at it.
Same here, I went there last week and I was shocked how much the Dome has changed, and it is not the same anymore, the magic feelings has gone completely. I was sad. I went to the Dome twice in 2000, and still miss it so much to this day.
ahhh i loved the millenium dome!!! i was only 8 when i went so i didnt reali understand much about it but i loved the big show and the voting cards =]
Wow i remember this, i loved it, i went during the summer hols, it was scorching. In fact its quite scary seeing all this over again after over 8 years!!!!!!! :)
@dumbasspauldentonkin the only bits of that I liked was the lift and the white bit (which might have been a bridge). But then again I was only 3. I remember the bit when you could hear the heart beating and I thought their were big men on tigers coming to get us. Dont know why \:j
I worked there for a month from 17th Jan to 13th Feb 2000, in the Talk Zone........BT seconded their own staff to work there........ it was an amazing time! I TOOK the photo's of people with ET and the avatars! I loved every minute!
i went there on a school trip it was AMAZING i loved it although i cant remember an awful lot i still got the lil card with me sat next to E.T. its cool lol
I remember when i went wid my family. I was only 3 yrs old. I dont remember too much but I remmember there being this bit where you wlak into the human body and the human body bits are in there.. It was an awsome day out. Nice vid.. Cya :D

I am glad the Millenium Dome inspired people like you. There were lots of negative comment in the media at the time which put a lot of visitors off.

waste of taxpayers money as usual.
worked out nicely for the government who collect nice taxes on the retail businesses and the expensive concerts put on there
we are gullible fools and it was OUR money.
That dome was supposed to be a FREE learning centre for the public

I've just one question... Why was this closed down in December 31, 2000?
The Millennium actually started the next day: January 1, 2001.
