Dave Gahan came far from starting out as a Basildon chav, and became an 80's superstar and member of one the top bands of their time, he's had some episodes since though! The mode went crap in the 90's though.
Oh hai, awesome video. Have you tried bee4biz (You can google it) they actually pay a lot more and they pay faster I started earning like 10 times more. You get paid to make and post short links.
@bassuan They don't say that. It's their worst video. Some famous director got to do it, and wrongly assumed Alan was the singer. They guys were pretty shy at the time, and perhaps they didn't know about the misunderstanding until it was too late. This video was voted worst video ever - by any group - about ten years ago on Swedish TV channel ZTV. (Enjoy the Silence voted best. Apparantly lots of DM fans voting.)
@lasquid Yeah Man rememer the KROQ parties in the Valley. Those days were the tits. I remember seeing Julie Brown perform "homecomming Queen's got a Gun" at the Tennesee Gin & Cotton. Forrest Whittiker & Dana Plato were there.
@gahloot Same here...I haven't heard this one since I was a kid. I had to do some background info on it - turns out that it was never released on an album (at least here in the USA), but it was a part of some singles compilation that I have never heard of. Regardless, it's a real diamond in the rough and I'm glad I re-discovered it!
@retrostatic My friend her in California was a DJ,and he would always play this back in the day in the club! I was with a friend of mine last week and she said listen to this u might like it? And I said are u kidding we used to love that song! Ah the great ole days! I miss them! Merry Christmas!
@AtollK1950 I don't believe so. It depicts perfecty the meaning of the words. I wish that musicians would make such videos today. Instead of a load of butts, tits and nonsense.
My favorite version of this song is the original 12-inch version of this. It used to be downloaded on You-tube but it has disappeared. Please, please somebody download again. It's probably my favrorite early Depeche Mode song.
wikipedia says: "In the music video Wilder lip-syncs the first lines of the song, even though Dave Gahan should be singing it. The band were too afraid to tell the director that Gahan was the lead singer. For some reason the director made the assumption that the singer was Wilder and they were to embarrassed to point out his mistake, the video remains this way today."
Amazing song. What?? They think this is one of their worst?? Impossible! :c( I do respect that they are a maturing band, and they do evolve. While I appreciate their newer works (a lot of it has grown on me and I see its wonder), I really like their older works, especially A Broken Frame. However, "What's Your Name?" is pretty bad.lol. They were tested when Vince left, and it really does show they have substance. Then, along came Alan, and they were rock solid.
@bassuan I also heard that they claim that the one is among worse ones..anyway, i disagree. The older sound much better than many of brand new by theirs.
depeche is my favorite band and personally I don't know why some people think depeche mode went bad after alan left. I mean there new album is not there best i'll give you that but it still has one of my favorite songs by them like " Jezebel & Perfect " but look at Playing The Angel that u know was something that just was to me one of there best cd's besides violator. Depeche mode did something that very few have done and that is blend almost industrial rock with heavy synths. Gary Numan Did 2
I think this isone of their best records, although it was never on an album, and the band never really liked it! Had the 12" record version(showing my age:-), and it was brill!
ahahahah XD che video.. i depeche hanno dichiarato che il regista era appena uscito dal college e non sapeva nemmeno che era Dave il cantante, quindi ha pensato fosse Alan.. e loro non hanno obbiettato xD
Are they??? Love DM and always will, but wouldn't say they were a blueprint for House and Detroit Techno... especially the latter which rests with the trio of Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, plus the music of Krautrock artists like Can, Tangerine Dream and especially Kraftwerk. Early Simple Minds is also up there for being influential.
You know why music can be like this? Its because the mainstream media decided that synth bands were not trendy anymore. Therefore, most present bands don't go for this sound anymore.
thanks for the compliments!!!! but I don't believe to know how to speak who knows well the English how much errors.....:) however I love the depeche mode their music and fantastic especially those trails as this!!! bye bye;)
WHY the guy sings the song ? why not the real singer

For me this is their BEST song.
LOL at Alan Wilder lip syncing because the band were too scared to tell the director Dave Gahan is lead singer.
