Was just a fun little car, but the transmission was horrible. Back then it wasn't a real automatic, but a tip-tronic sequential gearbox, with some software, that shifted itself - It took 1 - 2 seconds for gears to change, and the gap between was filled with nothing.

and with a normal car you would replace the valves but the dealers said that wasn't possible so you needed a new engine wich costed €3500-5000

so that is why a smart sucks and why no one over here wanted a smart

@gabbermaikel Yeah, I can see these smart cars being designed for European city use. Driving in the states is very different. In this part of Wisconsin, many roads between cities have 85 km/h speed limits. Expressways here are long, and mostly flat and straight, with speed limits of 110km/h.
