  • Where is the father?

  • how can we as a people reach out to these people and help them?

  • Also, weekly rates are quite cheaper than daily rates. It's very easy for us to pretend we are perfect and have incredibly amazing solutions to everyone's problems, but the reality is that we hardly know anything about others. Especially if we refuse to listen to them. We are conditioned into thinking that we can speak for other people, but it is really our low self esteem and hatred that speaks. Who's to judge the minor decisions of a woman's life who's in abject poverty? Really.

  • I find it so incredibly tragic, and telling of our society, that so many of us frequently dismiss the suffering of people who are homeless. It happens tragically over and over again to many types of people. It shows your own narcissistic ego when you choose to write ignorantly blind comments. When you dismiss someone's experience you negate intimacy and connections with others period. I find it literally heart-breaking the utter disconnect people have towards suffering.

  • she had never heard of condoms hasnt she?

  • She wished for dignity and the bare necessities. Her oldest daughter wanted her to say: "to be rich." I so don't respect the Koch Brothers from another motherfugger. All she wants and needs is to be confident that tomorrow won't be worse than today. That's all 99% of us want, while the 1% want some more.

  • I feel for them. But, what I always wonder is where do these hotels come from which are cheaper than a home/trailer/apartment? I've not seen even a trashy hotel offering anything for less than $30 per night in a LONG time. That equals $900 per month. Surely, someone has a privately owned house for less than that. Go conservative on the electric, and you could certainly come out cheaper. IDK.

  • Maybe she can get a business card and do sewing repairs something of that nature every little bit can help. Place card at laundrymats.

  • Diapers? Use cloth and save your money!

  • @InvisiMan2006 - but then her laundry bill goes up.

  • @meezergurl Are you comparing the cost of diapers to a load of laundry? She could wash them in the tub if need be... she would still save huge amounts of money either way.

  • @InvisiMan2006 - everytime a kid wets the cloth diapers soak up - they would have wall to wall diapers hanging all over the hotel room and would need drying racks. I know cloth is cheaper in one sense but I sure would hate to have to live that way.

  • @meezergurl With all due respect, this is a minor inconvenience. She cant afford regular diapers and cloth is a cheap and viable solution. Perhaps we need to swollow our pride and egos sometimes - sure beats homelessness.

  • @InvisiMan2006 - you're right. I agree. I just know from working in a shelter for so many years that things add up and defeat people. Having alot of kids and being homeless is huge. food. diapers. no supports. things become overwhelming and some people just cease to cope. Thank God we have better support systems in place in Canada - at least it sounds that way. Single mothers get mother's allowance which while is not great wealth it sounds alot more than in the US system.

  • @meezergurl - also - where I live - there are so many charities and supports - no one would ever find themselves having to panhandle for diapers. Well unless they bought other things instead.

  • @justmom66 Any mother has the legal right to have the father's wages garnesh from his pay check with out his control and you should still do this too! There is no reason for any father not to pay up on child support as it cost tax payers money when single parents must go on wealfare. Marlo should also still take legal action and both of you have the legal righght for your ex to have their wages garnished! Just do it as your right!

  • Your right this is a HUGE homeless issue with these people getting stuck in the endless cycle of these weekly hotels. They can't save money to do better, and they get so little there is nowhere they can afford. At the Co-Op food bank that I volunteer at I see lots of these poor people. They get welfare and food stamps, yet have to come to us for diapers, cleaners and sanitary items. It is sad and unfortunate. She is right though, better in a room than the street.

  • Where is the father of her children? He needs to pay child support! What about her family and friends to help her? First, she needs to go after the father of her children for child support!

  • @patsaxon I was a single mother of 2 working 2 jobs and going to school myself. Just because the court orders child support, does not mean that you will get it. When I divorced my kids were both under 8 yrs old. In all those years? He paid 2 moths child support and never once came to see his kids. Sad reality is you can not make anyone be a parent.

  • Thank you for exposing the extent that we have allowed MONEY to be GOD in this world; determining who lives in dignity and who lives in poverty.

We can change this. Check out Equal Money (dot) org and let's do this together and create a world where these children can grow up in dignity.

  • This is heartbreaking, mother of 4, this is so inspiring.
