I think we should learn every thing that is taught in Black History month but be integrated within American History. Otherwise it becomes your history and not everyone's history. I am 53 years old and have seen great strides in people getting along. My children never experienced the stigma associated with dating someone of a different race. Our circle of friends are made up of all sorts of skin tones so much so, that it feels weird to classify them as such. When can we stop being separate?

Also, I don't know about other high schools, but at mine we learned about history all year long. If a black person made history, we learned about it, if a hispanic person made history, we learned about it. Same is true for every race. We learned about history based on its importance, not the color of the person involved. Just my thoughts, you can disagree if you please.
I think what you didn't recognize was the point that the more we take note of color and set aside a special month for races, the bigger a gap we make between races. My American history is your American history. I don't think "black history" should be separated, this only contributes the idea that black people should be seen as different than anyone else.

We didn't do anything to the Jews it was Germany.We entered WWII because of Pearl Harbor not the concentration camps. If a black person made history, we learned about it, if a hispanic person made history, we learned about it. Same is true for every race. We didn't do anything to the Jews it was Germany.We entered WWII because of Pearl Harbor not the concentration camps.
