32 billionaires live in India. India is not as developed as England and America but it has developed more faster than they have. By 2040 it will be no3 in the world largest economy. If you search for other places of India like Kerala you will see not all of India is like this. India just need to sort out these slums. The rest of India is practically an Indian version of England. The people on the street are most often driven there, not by material conditions but by psychological issues, drug abuse, crime records, etc. But in Kolcutta, the poverty stricken are mostly victims of material circumstances. Of course both countries have their addicts and crazies, but most poverty in the U.S. is a result of states of mind rather than lack of opportunity.
Maybe you should take a walk down Skid Row in South Los Angeles. Thousands of people living in cardboard boxes, if they can even afford that. Or the Indian reservations in Arizona, the Dakotas, ect., or maybe some of the tent cities across California (Fresno, Sacramento, Ventura, amongst others) Tell them they don't live in poverty. My mom taught at an elementary school where 93% (yes you are reading that correctly) of the students could not afford school lunches. Every country has true poverty.
Don't always assume that the poor have bad lives, there's plenty of people with money living in their fat bodies with no love for anything except money!
