  • everybody revive songs now.. and by avril only some words and u make a big thing about it? how insecured u r...

  • Become a man that women yearn to sleep with websites: pp.cxx.ca

  • who the hell are "the rubinoos"????!?!?!!?

  • avril is more better

  • I think she ripped them off...Who gives a damn what key its in?? She has similar lyrics...

Hey (hey) You (you) I wanna be your BOYFRIEND

Hey Hey You You, I wanna be your girlfriend.

It even has the same beat for crying out loud. Yea, she changed some words big whoop. itd be different if she said hey hey you you, I wanna eat a taco. But no, I wanna be your girlfriend....She changed one word.

  • @HAWORTHSHOLLYWOOD Scopati :*

  • I love both versions of this song and people need to stop giving avril such a hard time. And the songs aren't identical. Avril: hey hey you you I don't like your girlfriend. No way no way I think you need a new one.

Original: hey you I wanna be your boyfriend. IT'S NOT THE SAME!!!!!

  • Get.Over.It

  • Ok, apart from "Hey, Hey, You, You, I want to be your boyfriend" and ""Hey, Hey, You, You, I wanna be your girlfriend", everything is TOTALLY different. Different musical genre, different beat, different meaning, lyrics, it's just DIFFERENT.

    They're just jelly. ;)

  • 連絡

  • fuck you!

  • Actually, the Rubinoos did most of the soundtrack to Revenge of the Nerds. So I have heard of them. ;)

  • Hey shit monkeys, Anyone who thinks Avril ripped off this song from this band find her song & Listen really fucking close, the only thing that's the same is: "Hey, hey, you, you." If that's ripping off the song then every fucking singer/band damn near can get sued for pulling that same shit.

  • I love this song! I'm a huge oldies fan, but I'd actually never heard this song until the whole Avril Lavigne controversy. I'm no fan of Avril, but I have to say... this song and Avril's song are really not that similar. The only similar part is "Hey Hey You You" which is also used in "Get Off My Cloud" by the Rolling Stones. So I don't think it's a rip off.

  • Nice Song.

  • nice song.

  • I love how no Rubinoos fans are over here and just butthurt Lavigne fans

  • Hèhè :P Nice :XD

  • I invite you to the south of France to do a video with Crumb drawing your portrait...

No strings attached , we just dig you and your music...

It will nt cost you a dime and it is just a fantastic place to hang out!!!!!!!!

    Peace,

    Alex

  • what's the point of this video??

the version of the rubinoos is just popular cause of avril.

AND avril didn't copy it.look at the lyrics, look at the whole song.

just the refrain is similar.oh my gosh that's sooooo bad,the world

    is coming down..LOL....chill out.

  • Yes exactly the man you are thinking of---I have always been and admirer of yours and Crumb lives next door to me here in France.. No strings attached...

Be cool and write me at alexgold@wanadoo.fr

    Peace,

    Alex

  • Is this a ripoff of lush???

  • I'd tap that.

  • What the chick looks all of 14.

  • cool

  • Avril -- My name is Alex and I am R.Crumb's bro in law--I live in the south of France in a 1500 year old Casel---Will you write to me?

I would like Robert to draw you.

    alexgold@wanadoo.fr

  • @AG91870 Didn't he write the Fritz the Cat comics, which was turned into an X-rated movie in the '70's?

  • weird song

  • Avril is the best! Who are those Ruminoos??? I have never heard of them and their song is soooo unpopular!!!

  • i like avril lasvignes song better

  • The 'defense' was that the 'Hey' hey, 'You' you, is similar to Rolling Stones 'Get Off of My Cloud.'

  • asside from the hey hey you you blah part i really don't see how this is stealing a song? lots of songs have some of the same lyrics in them

  • jajaa y quien no kisiera ser su novio! jaja =D

  • randomdirlMN and Jaaide are vulgar, pathetic losers who don't have a clue as to what the term plagiarism means -- just like most of their Gen Y brethren. And while the Rubinoos are comfortably seated in the pantheon of classic power pop artists, Lavingne is busy digging into the trash heap of failure, already having accomplished that at marriage, music and acting.

  • awesome video

  • Here we go again. Fuck off with this bullshit. Yes she took it big woop the song she made a fucking brilliant song out of it, if it wasn't for avril then nobody would know who these guys were tbh! LMAO!

  • @Jaaaide

haha i totally agree with you=)

  • @happyface011000 athankayou! ;D

  • @Jaaaide thank u!

  • @Jaaaide No one nowadays would...but I had this album back in 1979, and everyone back then with power pop sensibilities loved it...and I still do...have nothing against Avril, but her, shall we say, borrowing, leaves me relatively cold

  • AVRIL IS A THIEVING WHORE!!!!

  • @molloyboytoy like u mom

  • even if she copied she made it sound like something

  • i wana do her

  • AVRIL DID NOT COPY THIS SONG!!!! IT SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE THIS SONG!!!! THIS SING SUUUUUCCCKKKSSS!!! :p

  • @ilycreampuff73 i agree :P the chorus is obviously similar but its just that part.

  • this rubinoos band SUCKS bleghhh

  • @sims2ultralover5 avril copied a band that sucks?

  • @ieatpaste789 The rubinoos suck and let me specify that she didnt copy.

  • Look up KISS Coming Home on youtube -at 1:01 you hear the chorus riff stolen by The Rubinoos for their "Boyfriend" song from KISS and their song Coming Home released 1974, 5 years before the Rubinoos made theirs!. One should not throw stones when residing in Glass houses!

  • @skinsects totally right

  • @skinsects alittle drumming shouldnt matter there are tons of songs like that

  • The general legal rule of thumb is you have to have near perfect identity for four measures. The Bufooninoos qualify for at most two.

  • The lyrics in the chorus are definetly similer, not the chords or notes. its a common topic though.

  • either way the ramones had the original...

  • @zyph4lights Oh yeah, shit-for-brains? What happened to you? Your father fucked you one too many times in the EAR? Hey with you if there's any music playing anywhere it's like 'yeah that's the song' and if not then 'hey I don't hear the song'. You. Fucking. Idiot.

  • @SumnerMurrayRedstone wow...just wow...i said the ramones had the original...and you came up with my dad fucking me in the ear...the amount of fail in that comment is just colossal...did you mean to reply to my comment or someone elses? humanity is fuckd if you replyd to my comment on purpose.

  • this son is shit :@

  • Yeah... this song isn't the same at all. It's not about the same thing at all. I see nothing about jealousy... so uhmmmm... yeah... they aren't winning anything. How about we try "Hey (hey) You (you) get off of my cloud!" for similar beat next? -_- Ridiculous.

  • @SSCeles The words don't matter, Einstein. It's the MUSIC that matters. Go back and finish Trailer Part University. Stay offline for a while.

  • shes so god damn stupid.. i found this video on accident by the way...,

  • @partyongarth420 Avril stupid? Are you a fucking idiot? She's got more IQ in her morning stool than you and all your relatives combined, ass-wipe.

  • Nice girl

  • aguante rata blanca

  • es mejor la de avril, y solo repitio unas pequeñas palabras y un tono, no la repitio tal cual como estaba ¬¬ ¿♥ AVRIL ♥ !

  • jacker!

  • Avril Lavigne looks hot but The Rubinoos don't :( But I prefer The Rubinoos version.

  • @moviesunrated REALY?! Avril is the best and these Rubinoos are a bunch of idiot retards sons of a bitch that are jealous of her talent and they should sue their mothers for puting these kind of trash on the earth!!!!!!!!!!

  • Of course there's nothing about the chords or something! Only this litle phrase "hey hey you you I wanna be your boyfriend (girlfriend)" matters...

  • it sounds notting like avrils song she didnt steal it shes a brill song writer avrils the best

  • this is way better

  • avril is a bitch

  • The "hey hey you you" was the only one copied! It doesn't sound anything like Girlfriend. Girlfriend is sooooooooooo much better.

  • the thing is that this is not the only song she has rip off, type "avril the peaches" and you'll shit bricks, really, that one is TOTALLY stole.

  • really doesn't sound like Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend.

Girlfriend is quite a bit better too.

  • Comment removed

  • it's not just the "hey, hey, you, you'" is the melody and th metre. If you listen to the music and the beat, it's exactly the same, except Avril is louder

  • she is effing disgusting

  • Great song!

  • um i reeeally dont think she copied them haha why would she copy like five words ,they're not even good

  • I don't know if she DID rip it off or if she NEVER heard it before. I don't care. BUT they do sound the same.

  • it doesnt sound that much alike.. the words are the same hey hey you i wanna be your (something)friend.. its not like its incredibly hard to write... especially by two diffrent people within 30 years? Im surprised there arent more songs that used those exact lyrics on a hook...

  • I didn't realize she ripped it off. She most likely only sung it because it was given to her by her company.

  • O.O holy shit. I read what avril had said defending herself and all... but now that im listening to the song... its TOO similar for it to be mere coincidence wtf. and her new songs are all like snaps snaps and cheering... they all sound alike and so not creative

  • lol, its so obvioulsy copied :')

if she had any talent, she'd write her own origanl songs instead of relying on songwriters. Thats what you get when you have zero talent I guess

  • Well the chorus to this is a rip off of Get Off My Cloud. So suck it.

  • Avril is really pretty :P

  • Avril is Innocent!

    Avril is Innocent!

  • avril is a stealing i dont like avril now... all song that released this new album are all steal with other song...LOL XD

  • that's why they sued avril

  • I hate Avril's "girlfriend" and yea the chorus has to be copied... I assume Avril won any sort of court case right? Or was there one?

  • Yes but it was Avril's songwriters who copied this song

  • I know songwriters have a large part to play in the process, but she was definitely involved in songwriting... oh I can't tell, she sounds like a child when she speaks at interview and her whole successful career is a mystery to me... I gotta work on my own career more haha

  • @motherloadhackfinder yeah she is too stupid and untalented to write a single song on her own or not copying

  • I'd say The Rubinoos are pretty lucky this controversy came up, otherwise nobody would have ever heard of them.

Thanks for putting this video up... Avril sure is nice to look at

  • @MarkCheetah2 lol, she's nice to look at when she's wearing 2 gallons of makeup, otherwise she looks like your average; flat-chested, no ass, white trash bimbo.

  • @MarkCheetah2 Yeah, they sure are lucky some bitch with no talent stole their music. Maybe YOU never would have heard of the Rubinoos, but they've been around for a long time and write great music.

  • @rumxrunner Take a listen to "Avril lavigne - Nobody's home live acoustic mad tv" and tell me Avril has no talent. And it's the other way around... maybe YOU have heard of The Rubinoos, but about 98% of everyone else around here haven't.

  • @MarkCheetah2 You can't on solid ground make that conjecture. The Rubinoos have been around for 40 years -- anyone that is a true power pop music fan would know about them. I would rather box my ears than listen to her sorry excuse for music. Anyone could sing a song, it takes real talent to write music, which she doesn't and probably can't do.

  • @rumxrunner Avril co-writes most of her songs with producers or other musicians. Plus, she's been making music for 8 years and is only 25 years old... I'd say that's a pretty good start.

If "Girlfriend" had a different song title, nobody would have even made a connection between the two songs. They're not even in the same key! "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is in the key of E, and "Girlfriend" is in D.

  • @MarkCheetah2 pft... are you kidding? the key of a tune is irrelevant. any melody can be transposed in all 12 keys.

  • @MarkCheetah2 What key have to do with plagiarism? Notes are just shifted to fits her voice. It's still plagiarism.

  • @MarkCheetah2 come on dipshit they ripped off the song period, the chorus or hook to the song is identical, the HEY, YOU, everything. They got sued as they should have, end of story.

  • @rumxrunner You think so. But millions don't agree. I think they write some pretty pathetic music. I'd sooner flush it down the head than listen to it. Avril and her producers turn out some pretty amazing stuff.

  • @MarkCheetah2 Come on now, they did the theme song to Revenge of the Nerds. Surely everyone has heard of them!

  • @ohnoanotherputz Yeah, but did everyone bother watching the end credits to get to the music selections? Everyone who knows and digs classic power pop has heard of them, at least...and while I'm no fan, Avril at least gets a bit of cred for having the taste to borrow something this great

  • @MarkCheetah2 they had quite a cult following, actually.

  • @MarkCheetah2

You mean nobody under the age of 30 with the attention span of a flea would have heard of them.

  • umm a few same words 'hey' (repeated) and 'i wanna be' surely does not constitute copying... if it does alot of songs are copying others..

  • whats funny is this song sounds a lot closer to get off of my cloud then avrils sounds like it

(high five if that makes sense to you)

  • hate you gays. she never do that.

    Avril the best !

  • sounds like the bay city rollers

  • Damn this song pwns. Avril Sux

  • The songs are quite alike. If an artist wants to borrow some of a song all they have to do is give credit case closed. "Hey you" is the same for sure. Even in school you have to use proper citations in your work or get an F.

  • it's just the friggen chorus nothing else

  • I you listen to the Lush version of this song it sound more familar to Avril Lavigne's version because they actually say "girlfriend" as Lush has a female singer. I thought that it was similar the first time I heard her song. I didn't know that other people were making it a big deal until just recently. Funny.

  • @fatcatbuzz: I totally agree. The Rubinoos supposedly got pissed because Lush asked for and received permission. Avril did not.

  • I actually like some of Avril Lavigne's music, but not all of it and I didn't really care for her song. I thought of Lush version of "I Want To Be You Girlfried" the first time I heard it, but didn't really think she copied them. It wasn't until recently that I found out that people were saying that she copied The Rubinoos. I never heard their version until all this. Anyways, I like Lush's music the best of all three of these bands.

  • they all copied the stones. the end.

  • avril 's goes Hey hey you you i dont like your girlfriend no way no way i think you need a new one hey hey you you i could be your girlfriend they dont even sound alike only the words hey and you and boy or girl thats really not copying i mean look at rhianna copying michael jackson and plus this song is crap avril rocks.

  • The melody is similar.

  • avril is such a poser, she cant even write a different chorus

  • its still plaigarism end of story

  • what part of it is plagarism? The hey(hey) you(you)? the I wanna be your girlfriend/boyfriend? because both seem kinda easy to "plagiarize" in my opinion...

  • OMG avril lavigne is not copying the whole damn song. SHE ONLY COPIED 'HEY HEY YOU YOU I WANNA BE YOUR' thats nothing to fight about.

  • thats called sampling

"In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a different sound recording of a song"

you can pay an artist to sample a song but the point is she stole it n said she didnt so she didnt have to pau for stealing it and she clearly stole it !

  • " i wanna be your boyfriend" is better!

  • Lmao Im gonna write a song called I wanna be your girboyfriend :D It could be a hit! :p but id probably be sued for everything i own...

  • god how bored am i that i'm even looking up this similarity shit?

  • well um it doesn't sound similar at all... -.-

only one thing is similar and it's only those 5 words of the song

  • Comment removed

  • i would cum on avrils face.

  • Me too

  • eww

  • The english band Lush did a cover of this song called 'I wanna be your girlfriend' (I've got the CD somewhere). Their version sounds very similar to Ms Lavigne's (including the guitar part at the end of the chorus and most of the verse chords).

  • I can see where they say Avril stole the song cuz that "Hey! hey! you! you! I wanna be your boyfriend" part but thats the only part I heard that sounded identical to Avril's.

It seems hard to say she stole the song when only 1 sentence is the same.

  • It is possible that Avril heard the 1990 cover of this song by The Party when she was very young and remembered it subconsciously...or maybe her co-writer ripped it off...or maybe Avril was just out of ideas.

  • ercale si, se parece a la de avril, pero la de avrl esta mil veces mejor yahoo

  • ithe choures is the sane and at the end of the day its still the same...like the old song YOUNG GIRL has a very differant melody and when rapper PLAN B took it he totally changed the melody...serch them up there the same avril stole or maybee a QUINCIDANCE!!

  • these people sound like the ramones to me.

  • ohhhkayy..

avril didnt steal from this no good bad, the rubinoos. yeah, she only used one line.. and that band swears like if she stole their melody. but i agree with TrippNessa, the guys who were trying to sue her were just trying to get money because their song didnt make it as big as "girlfriend", i bet they were trying to look for a "reason". but whatever.. the point is, avril didnt steal anything.

  • avril didn't steal anything, her songwriters did.

  • no, she wrote the song..

  • shame on her!!

  • This sounds nothing like Girlfriend. Similarities in lyrics are common, considering the subject is common.

And Avril doesn't write much of her new stuff.

  • This also sounds a hell of a lot like "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" by Ramones.

And NO Avril would never plagerize, cause she never rights her music anyhoo. :)

  • yeah, really. it sounds like a weaksauce ramones copy in the first place.

  • Hardly. Rubinoos got together before the Ramones did.

  • It's not a plagiarism. There is a big difference.

  • Avril lavigne è una merdA

  • she is amazing

  • Seriously, the ONLY thing that's even REMOTELY similar between this song and Avril's is that ONE line. That's not stealing at all, these songs are nothing alike. I think the guys who tried to sue her were just trying to leech money because her song was better -_-

  • She is a loser

  • The only similar bits are the phrases "Hey, hey, you, you, I wanna be your boyfriend." The tune, if sped up, might possibly be similar to Lavigne's song, but really, it's only about one line!

  • and that's kind of the whole hook of the song. it's why it sold. and it's the whole chorus that's exactly the same. -_- please don't support that slut.

  • only about one line?? It's the fucking chorus!!

  • Okay, I concede to that. However, I've got to say that both songs really suck anyways. . .

  • oh my god, already the ramones used this line.

there are not that many sentences in the universe, so a chorus could show up twice in time ^^

  • Lavigne said in an interview that she had never heard of the Rubinoos or this song in her life.

When you watch the making of The Best Damn Thing, you can see that Lavigne is (slightly) drunk. In a drunk state people usually go beyond their limits and start talking/yelling. In this case singing.

Lavigne even said she was in a club the night she thought of Girlfriend. She was probably just having fun.

  • the only same thing between this songs is:'hey, hey, you,you i wanna be ur ....friend"

    it's not big deal
