THis brings back such incredible memories of when I first bought this album, probably 35 years ago now.. it's giving me chills up and down my arms and back to listen to this wonderful pair again, thanks for posting it !
I love this song. I love Beverly Sills and her great voice. I had the pleasure of seeing her perform the title role of An Italian In Algers with the Opera Comique in Paris many years ago. It was just wonderful and Madame Sills stole the show. She was simply wonderful.
I envy you, parzifal, what a wonderful experience it must have been. She was incredible throughout her life. We are fortunate she recorded so many great songs and operas.
I'm going back adn watching and listening to all my Favorites, and I'm starting with your postings of Sherrill and Beverly. Exquisite! Thanks. Now I'll sing this on my way to church this morning, just as I loved and sang it as a teenager many years when I became enchanted with operetta, long before I became an opera fan. Thanks, and have a good day. And I'm so glad I got to meet Mr. Milnes last year here in Asheville.
This album was my first bought from Beverly Sills. After this I bought every Sills album I could get my hands on. Her Victor Herbert album included a wonderful rendition of "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life".
This song has a special meaning to me. When our troop ship docked in San Francisco on our return from Korea in 1952, a singer (whose name escape me after all these years), sang this song for the troops. Love it then, love it even more now!
This was a great album (I still have it). It was released about the same time as Sills Victor Herbert and her French Collection with Andre Kostelanitz. This showcases both these singers skill in light opera. Two of my favorite selections are the two from "Up in Central Park" - "Close As Pages In a Book" and "The Fireman's Ball"
Thank you OberaBuff...and please tell Mr. Milnes that I am still in love with him!! I have posted two more of my beloved Beverly, from Traviata and Mr. Milnes video from Tosca. Thanks again for listening.
I'm listening to this again. And the depth and emotion of these two singers, espcially Beverly Sills, is just grabbing and tugging my heart strings. When I get a chance to meet Mr. Milnes in Asheville, NC on January 30, I hope I remember to tell him about this posting and the effect it is having on me.
I became a fan of operetta as a young child, long before I fell in love with opera. "My Hero" was one of my early favorites and I'm in heaven revisiting it. I love this duet by two of the great opera stars of the 20th century. I met Sherill Milnes once before, and am looking forward to meeting him again at a reception in Asheville, NC on Jan. 30. I never met Beverly Sills, but just adored her singing, especially in the 3 queen operas by Donizetti.I've been in the chorus of all 3 of them.
Thank you! I plan to do so as soon as I get my turntable and cd/dvd player back in action. People I know and love have taken to updating my computer and managed to send some systems into orbit. It is now being repaired.
