'Twist of Cane' is a rip off of 'In my time of dying' by Zep. Also, 'Mother' has the same riff as 'You make me rock hard' by Kiss but, the songs are both from '88, I don't know who ripped who off on that one.
danzig's came out 3 months earlier, but to be fair to kiss, i doubt they heard some danzig tune on the radio and just decided they'd steal the riff and write a song around it to be released as a single 3 months later. they probably only sounds sorta alike cause of coincidence.

Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach..the list goes on.

I just dont see how just because one band comes later, its suddenly ripping them off. Mudhoney is a great band and never got the credit they deserved same with Green River. I think it is a rip off because it is too similar to be coincidence. I've heard before that Danzig ripped it off from Pink Floyd's "lucifer sam" , but while it is similar it is not exactly the same. I don't remember Ozzy's no more tears in detail, but i'll check it out.

Tons of bands were trying to succeed making the same type of music. Look at Last Nite by The Strokes. It has the same opening riff as American Girl by Tom Petty. It doesn't nessescarily mean either song sucks.

Wow. Aren't we cool. Grow up. STP was a highly successful band. The riffs are deep and medolic. the vocals aren't just overshadowed by the guitars and you can actually tell what they are saying. Theres a reason Scott weiland is constantly on top 100 vocalists of all time lists, and Dean Deleo is constantly on the same lists for guitarists, while your band gets to sit around with their only hit that ever meant anything "Mother" on loop. Whatever though. Listen to your shit. Its your choice.

Oh, and STP has more originality than Danzig could ever wish to have in wet dreams. While grunge was dominating the scene in the mid to late 90s, STP was releasing melodic Psychedelic rock that hadn't been around since the 70s when Zeppelin was around. Hell, Danzig didn't try to differentiate themselves from the "scene" at all. And thats why all they amounted to was just...."That band that plays mother".

Metallica had its first album come out in 83.
Danzig had its first album come out in 87. Damn. And actually, I haven't found ANY bands that say they were influenced by Danzig. While One of the most successful modern bands, Linkin park (I dont like them either, who cares), who has albums certified DIAMOND in todays market, cites STP as their MAIN influence. Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach..the list goes on.

Well, lets see here....all your band has to say for itself is that Metallica liked his music. that DOESNT mean they were INFLUENCED by it. Hell, if thats what you meant, STP has played with Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and many other bands who all enjoy their music. And while your band can hold onto that one compliment from Metallica, STP had grammies and tons of #1 singles, which im pretty sure Danzig had......NONE of. Niiice. Face it......Danzig is the spitting image of a one hit wonder.

True in many cases, but not Danzig's. They are just like Faith No More....a band that struggled along, and finished off with only one song anyone cares about. Besides, I'm not only into popular music. I go see local bands and opening bands that i know have virtually no shot of making it. I buy their stuff and listen to it regularly too. I listen to all kinds of rock. I just don't see how Danzig made any sort of impact on the scene. They made one decent song, and faded out of sight.

I completely agree. And Mudhoney was a great band that helped start the grunge scene. Touch me im sick is one of my favorite tunes. I also liked temple of the dog and Green river. I just dont see how just because one band comes later, its suddenly ripping them off. Grunge was a huge genre, bands came in and participated throughout the entire 90s. and this is random, but do you think "No more tears" by ozzy sort of has a similar riff near the chorus? or is it just me?

Mudhoney is a great band and never got the credit they deserved same with Green River. I think it is a rip off because it is too similar to be coincidence. I've heard before that Danzig ripped it off from Pink Floyd's "lucifer sam" , but while it is similar it is not exactly the same. I don't remember Ozzy's no more tears in detail, but i'll check it out.

I heard the lucifer sam thing as well...maybe i got the two mixed up. And really, I can understand where your coming from. I just viewed the early 90s as more of a blur. Tons of bands were trying to succeed making the same type of music. The only band i REALLY think jumped on the bandwagon was Creed, who found a way to milk the post-grunge sound and sell more than most grunge bands managed to. Sorry about this all. You seem to know more than most users on here do, and I misjudged you at first.

The Danzig song was before STP's and further more since Danzig is basically a New Yorker and the Dictators are from New York and I can't imagine Danzig listening to the Floyd I will go with the Dictators in fact I will ask Eerie since I do know him and I will get back to you how about that?

ok i just gotta say this, does it really matter. They're two songs with similar opening riffs. Just because they sound the same doesn't mean one is nessescarily bad or that it sucks. Look at Last Nite by The Strokes. It has the same opening riff as American Girl by Tom Petty. It doesn't nessescarily mean either song sucks.

In reguards to sex type thing, the first two notes he hits are very similar but by the third note struck the two differ. Its not the same riff, and it holds a different tempo. Nobody stole anything, and shut the fuck up already.
