  • I saw him at Lulus in Canada near the end one of his last lps was called Drop down and get me.Tried to have something to do with the Travelling Wilberrys post Orbison

  • Love Del's version as well as Peter and Gordon's.

  • Wow! Soooding

  • Hello great vid what happened to Del ? is her still singing ?

  • @jsteelman1000

This great talent sadly shoot himself in 1990.

  • @jsteelman1000 : sigh he killed himself in 1990 or 92. oh my god i miss him so much, sorry i have to go cry

  • Best version, original pretty much

  • Love Del

    Oz

  • God bless ya man.

  • Love Dels and Peter and Gs versions great song from the good ol beat days

  • Del was very highly regarded (and covered) by lots of British stars. A terrific producer, too -- check out the hits he had with Brian Hyland on "Gypsy Woman" and with Smith on "Baby, It's You." Steamy, funky stuff that was just great.

  • WHY DID YOU RANAWAY..........

    MISS YOU

  • dude captured everything good about rock and roll before rock emerged. he was a GIANT.

  • Most of Del's songs were of his own writing - this cover is a great example of his talent.

  • @BluezGuitarz

    He wrote it. Sorry.

  • @amkirkhope BluezGuitarz had it somewhat correct. Del wrote this song for Peter and Gordon to record - they made its first recording. Crazy, but Del recorded a "cover" of his own song (much better than the original recording by the way).

    Regards,

    Wiltent

  • Great stuff. Has a nice country flair to it too. Could be done again today and still pass the stuff up out there on the fake radio stations.

  • I saw Del at the Circle Star Theatre around 1984....I was floored by him. Such an awesome talent !!!

  • love the horns .

  • One of Del's finest song, it's great to hear this country-ish version. Del cut a number of Hank Williams tunes early on in his career, as did many other rockers of his day, so the country bent isn't a surprise. Hank Williams is in the DNA of any good writer.

  • @conroyshawnr Wow!! Couldn't agree more!!! Good call.

  • He seems to have always been leaning towards country. The sadness was always there.

  • Del owns this song. Southern Pacific did it justice too.

  • Good voice...

  • GREAT voice.

  • Del was an amazing singer....I do know he is missed so very much..

  • it doesnt get any better than this

  • even till today i can not beleive he is dead , he had too deal with is own demon's and being screwed by the record company that he sang for put him in a deep depression .

  • the thing that seems so strange, its, somany people says that the peter and gordon its better, but this is a Dell Shannon song

  • Dell ?

  • @elcor59 I like shannons versions better,-more heart , soul, stage presence and singing , other than that peter & gordon are better.

  • I love this arrangement. The pedal steel and horns totally work. But then, so does Peter & Gordon's version. That's what make this a great piece of somgwriting.

  • I completely agree with Alphuez below...great treatment of this song with the pedal steel, horns, etc. --had always heard (and still like) the Peter & Gordon version, this is a very nice variation...thanks for posting for us...

  • What a singer/guy, he touch`s every mood or feeling someone could ever have during a life time

  • Wow! I'm the 5000 viewer. Cool!

  • Great clip of a live performance by the composer himself. Like the slow pacing, and even the pedal steel. And how can you not love Del's voice?

Was in the U.K. at the time that Peter and Gordon's iconic recording of this came out -- that's the only version I'd heard until just now.

Thanks a ton for posting... great stuff.

  • Del truely was one of the greatest!

R.I.P. Del and "Rock On" in heaven!

They must have a ball up there after you came!

  • what a god givin gift he was blessed with. what a shame that he's gone. RIP "Del Shannon"

  • R.I.P. The great Del Shannon!

  • Great live version.

  • i just got hip to del shannon only knowing his runaway on transistor radio as a kid at about 8 9yrs old i was knocked out to kno del wrote this.found a live version thats different than this 1.fell in love with it now it, now i find this 1. i am complete del is on his way"out" in both clips, to the "other side" he died at 55 looks in his early 50s. great we have the last days of del.hes about 53 in the other clip and his background singers sound better.

  • He's damn good ain't he.

    R.I.P Del.

  • killer song, god damn dude rules

  • Checked out the Cotton, Lloyd and Christian version- pretty light. This version is SWEET- especially with the crying steel guitar- rock solid.

  • This is definitely the best live version I've heard- kind of needs the Nashville slickness.

I can still dredge up a tear for the one that got away with this song.... love Del.

  • Oh so grate to see you again in a new video, lovely song you made also, I Go To Pieces over you, Love You Del,caro
