Thank you from Greece for posting this video and song I loved both from the time I first saw the movie and still remembered today.Never expected to find them online in such good quality, now I must tell my russian friends that we can watch the songs again, online :)
Americans made some decent Westerns because it's their culture, but the only really good westerns were Spaghetti Westerns made by Italians because there's more to movies than ak-shun. Italians actually know how to act, direct, and choose music well, whereas Americans, being fake to the bone and all about cheap, forgettable thrills, gloss (did cowboys have perfect teeth and squeaky-clean skin?) and wasting gunpowder, are biologically incapable of playing any characters but themselves.
Otherwise, in the 60s and 70's Mosfilm produced GENIUS comedy, drama, musicals that are still relatable, and fun 40 years later -- i.e. Moskva slezam le verit (Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears), Ivan Vasilievich Menjaet Professiyu (I.V. switches careers), Sluzhebniy roman (Office Romance), Beregis' Avtomobilya (Watch for Cars), the Sherlock Holmes series (never did I actually believe Sir Henry could be played as comical) and everything involving Shurik and the Russian Three Stooges = gold.
I agree that THIS PARTICULAR movie was a bad adaptation of the book. It's really slow and drags on and on, whereas the book, despite being a classic, is very action and intrigue-packed, and a page-turner. Also, the singing interludes appear pretty random and forced to the modern viewer. This is actually the only soviet film I actively dislike.
The details - horse droppings in the road, for instance. Realistic details - thats what I love about Russian films&excellent play of actors. Rbtube12 from Canada - you didnt aim! we had acess to watch&read western books. what a pity! you would be so much happier if we couldn't. Some Hollywood movies are good! In the most we see - actors with skewed faces, plot like for half-grown ones, special effects: electricity sparkles, unrealistic battles, propagande, absense of the spirituality, etc

Continuing: If people in USSR and other socialist countries were given a chance to choose what they'd liked to watch, no doubt they would have chosen western, namely Hollywood movies. Simply because Americans did make 1000 percent better ones in all fields: picture, production, acting, screenplay, cutting, editing, blah blah. I am so glad today am not forced to watch poor quality, second class junks - like this one.
maybe but you'l never know ,just because there was no choice, and not all movies were bad try to see Sherlock Holmes series they did ....it's said it's one of the best ,and about this movie at least stays true to the book of alexandre dumas
@rbtube12 You know, i still watch old soviet comedies with more pleasure than most of the Hollywood stupid comedies. As for "other socialist countries"... I prefer IFC channel. There's good and bad stuff in every country, it's not true that hollywood movies are better than movies from anywhere else in the world.

Good, best movie??? Oh well come on! I know this movie since my childhood. I watched it because there was nothing else to watch. Communists didn't let us to choose what we watch. Yeah, true, this move like many other Soviet productions, seemed to be good, entertaining. But now when I watch it, except for triggering my nostalgia, I don't find it that exciting. Honestly I surprise how dull, boring was the movie! Like many others. Mosfilm was way behind Hollywood. Noone would argue. Face the truth.
I grew up with Russian movies and am glad I had this chance! Despite the socialist crazyness at that time they have created quality productions that Holyood could only dream of.
i read the novel a week ago(teacher sayd we had to) ad i have to say, russians (especialy during the soviet ages) by the book, not like the west where a TTALY nwe script is written.
@big80tommy alexandre dumas pere wrote over 400 historical novels exposing world tyranny(roman catholic empire). in his own words his first purpose in writing was to in struct and then to amuse and amuse was always a mask for instruction. COUNT DUMAS
I Love this movie since I was a child & I still do.All for one and one for all! Today the English version comes on SPRTL.Looking forward. ♥

Part 2
Paris needs money,
C'est la vie!
And it needs more
Valiant cavaliers.
But what is a cavalier
Without love?
And what is a cavalier
Without luck?
Chorus
igorzee 4 years ago 6
Part 1
The old saddle's
Squeaking again,
And my old wounds
Feel the wind.
Where the devil are you
Heading for again?
Cant you afford some peace
For a while?
Chorus
igorzee 4 years ago 6
Chorus:
In our lifetime
Lets enjoy!
The ladies and wine,
And good luck with our swords.
With feathers swinging
On our hats,
We'll tell our Fate:
Merci beaucoup.
