Grew up in that town . Left in'85 . Glad to see the train going that far again at least . Have walked across the top of that trestle on the carrabasset many times when we were kids . That town has changed quite a bit since then . The old Mark Emery school is gone . The Green bridge is gone . Not even any more trails left on graveyard hill . Lot of good times hanging out up there back then .
@DSVetDad Thanks , thousands of stories just like mine from thousands of small towns across America . Before home computers , Ipods , cell chones , twitter , ect . Never be like that again . Beautiful small town , tons of good fishing and hunting .
@tourmalinehunter I grew up in a small town myself....a block from the spillway at the river, seigned my own shad and catfished every day in the summer growing up...was an old train trestle down the river about a mile...still there as far as I know. Had good clean fun growing up....
wow i love this because the train sounds sound so awesome but i still like the one with the music better it makes an exciting moment even more exciting :D
i goggle mapped this line it shows it going to bingham--but it looks like a dead end on the bridge..does it?..also the map didn't have the siding they're pulling into
The line did go to Bingham. MEC stopped going there around 1978. From Bingham it went all the way to Moosehead lake. You can drive on a lot of the old road bed up around Moxie Lake. Most of the old bridges and some of the buildings are still there. Pretty cool!
The line does dead end on the bridge in N. Anson. Eventually I think you'll see them go at least back to Embden for the rock quarry. Time will tell.
Pan Am switched gears completely, & now only does business via freight train service. More profitable than maintaining a fleet of aging, & fuel thirsty passenger planes.
Why all of the sudden did they decide to start using this line, after 20 years of being abandoned. And wouldn't the tracks need some major repair before trains just start running over them again? Nice video.
Fuel prices. OTR truckers are going broke because of it. Train activity up here in Maine is (crazy) busier than ever! Guilford/ST is up here sometimes twice a day now, on the Rockland branch. I live less than 2 blocks away from the tracks, & see them at least once a day on my way to work.
Yes, it's an ex B&M unit. Sorry. I thopught it was BAR #71. If the price of diesel keeps going up at the rate it is now, then alot of these rails here in Maine will probably be re-activated..... We shall see......
Wow, were did they dig up that dinosaur (the GP9) from?

Two questions, what road did the train cross, and how often do they run up there?
IAm4EvrDrunk 3 years ago
Route 234 (Union St) North Anson. They go up there a couple times a week.
fatslammer2002 3 years ago

Do they run trains in north anson now?

The remaining MEC and B&M geeps were transferred to Guilfords Springfield Terminal in 1988/89. This somehow saved Guilford money.

Thats actually an ex-Boston and Maine GP9.

i thought it was a Springfield engine
