  • oooh that sends chills down my spine

  • I think the note that this STH-10 sounds is more ominous than the tone that an STH-10 is supposed to sound.

  • Wow. I used to live ¼ mile from a Sentry 10V siren. When a tornado warning was issued once, that siren sounded in attack mode and jumped to the same pitch as this siren.

  • At this pitch it would technically be considered a STM-10, single-tone medium pitch 10hP, like STH-10 is single tone high pitch 10hp, and STL-10 is single tone low pitch 10 hp

  • Yeah, I could immediately identify the wavering of the Thunderbolt. Sounds like the one in Aitkin, MN.

  • i hear some 3016s and 2001s in the background am i correct?

  • It sounds like a T-128. Strange but i like it

  • Was this just a test or an actual warning?

  • NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The zombies are coming!!!!!!!!!!!!! actually in our town we have one right beside the cemetary, so that is why the zombie reference.

  • I think it is more haunting like this....sounds cool

  • STH-10= Special Tone High

    STL-10: Special Tone Low

  • that's definitly single phased

  • @lildil39485 Single phase STH-10s aren't this slow to wind up and have a higher peak.. it's underpowered or tired.

  • I loved the wind up chorus! And yes, this siren does sound a bit tired. Maybe a bit of maintenance would help?

  • OH LAWDY!

That is a CLASSIC sound, there.

  • T-bolt @ :11!

  • God she's got shot bearings. Poor girl.

  • Comment removed

  • ...I was mighty close. Poor STH-10.

  • Oh, yeah, she's tired. She's only pushing 550 hz or so. Freshly rebuilt, she'd be closer to 700hz.

    ;_;

  • @DasMidnightDrifter 541Hz is what I got.

  • @DasMidnightDrifter it's not tired, this one is single phased. and single phased STH-10's tend to be alittle lower pitched

  • Looks like a decapitated 3T22.

  • Pretty much is.

  • Yeah it does.

  • This is almost like a Tempest T-121 siren.

  • the high pitched ones i think sound better i hope to get one since Grapevine,TX is taking it down and replacing it with a 2001

  • Looks like one of the single phase versions of the later 7.5hp STH-10s (or rather a "STH-7.5" lol). Those always were sickly-sounding, especially these single phase ones, since their peak RPM isn't quite as high as their three-phase brothers.

  • The tornado sirens tested in Louisville, Kentucky are tested on the Second Tuesday of every month

  • Is that a tornado warning? If its a test how long do they go for?

  • It's a test. If you watch the whole video, you'll see how long they sound.

  • yea and if it wasnt a test, it would just be a severe storm warning because in the steady mode where it doesnt tune down, it means only a severe storm is coming.

  • It doesn't sound like it's getting enough power to me.

  • STH 10s sound better like this in my opinion. I live in a valley with an active one of these a few miles away, and when they sound it in attack for fire calls, it is the eeriest sound you could imagine.

  • Holy crap, do I hear a Thunderbolt set to 7!?

Let's hear that baby more closely! <3

  • god lol it sounds like it's on drugs, that t-bolt

  • LOL! It does! But is suspossed to. STH-10 means Single tone high.

  • i do know that. :P

  • the first siren that goes off inthe back ground sounds like an EOWS 612 siren

  • that is a cold war siren to alert us thr nukes are on their way

  • We test or tornado sirens.

  • theyre also used by volly fire depts. my company has been using the same sth-10 for like 40-50 years

  • THE GERMANS ARE HERE FOR REVENGE!!!

  • God I love the sound of impending doom! I can't wait for April second.

  • ..what's April 2nd?

  • INCOMINGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    GET THE FUCK DOW-----

    wakes up**everyonesdead cept for him*

    O.0

  • i have a alarm clock that has a siren just like this one lol

  • I need you to message me where I can get one. :D

  • lol i got mine in poland

  • IIIINCOOOMIIIING!!!!!!!

  • gawdam

  • I actually recorded that 1000T at the beginning of the video. It is very high pitched and carriers well, as the siren is about 3/4 a mile from the STH-10 in this video. I am pretty sure this siren used to be a 2/3T22, judging from the fact that this siren is very new.

  • that siren is very underpowered... we have one here in my town and its alot faster and louder. When it goes off you can see it twist the wood grains on the pole its mounted to. all I can say is they dont make em like they used to!!

  • That pole needs replacing then

  • @purpledragonslayer It is a single phase STH

  • I go to purdue. When they do these tests I love it. So haunting. I usually pretend to be taking cover, my friends enjoy it.

  • Should be 11am every Friday.

  • Wow I just realized I misread your post. Christ finals suck; they're impairing my ability to read :(

  • CLASSIC AIR RAID MOVIE SOUND MUCH?

  • Thats coo how you can hear the other sirens echo before this one!

  • i love the sound of that. what state is this in?

  • indiana.

  • what other sirens do they have at purdue and lafayette besides the xt22s, tbolts,sth-10s, and 2001s?

  • In addition to this siren, Tippecanoe county (Purdue, West Lafayette, Lafayette) mainly has older 2001's. The county also has a few Thunderbeams, a few xt22's, 2 thunderbolts, and one modulator (that i know of).

  • if you just listen to the audio it sound like a whelen vortex

  • awesome video! I audiotaped a siren test sitting in the McCutcheon Hall parking lot back in '95. My girlfriend at the time thought I was nuts! I still have it on cassette, I think it's a Federal? Whatever it is sitting on top of that building is loud as hell. Is it still there? Where on campus is this one?

  • Yep its still there. That would be a Federal Signal 3T22 that you recorded on top of Earhart.

The siren in this video is located in Hilltop Apartments... right next to the golf course.

  • i love sth-10's!

  • Is that a T-Bolt at the beginning and what chopper setting is it, it's kind high pitched.

  • By saying there is a 2001AC, you mean one with a round back, right?

  • no they have square backs. there are tons of AC's around Tippecanoe county. They are basically the same thing as DC's only without the battery backup.

  • sounds like a t-128

  • This is a STH that is single phase

  • If you've ever wanted to hear an American twelve port siren running on European 50 Hz. current, it would sound just like this.

  • I am not a big fan of STH-10s, but that has a nice sound to it. Nice video!

  • can anyone tell me what kind of siren is heard in the movie TWISTER (1996) during the drive-in theater scene? i liked that sound.

  • A Carters siren... Its a stock clip.

  • It's a stock clip... of a UK Carters Siren (or Castle Castings)

  • Why do they have this at Purdue? What is it used for?

  • Here in Indiana, the second most tornadically active state in the country after Oklahoma, sirens like these are used to warn people who might be outdoors, away from TV or radio, in case of a tornado.

  • Oh, I didn't know that there are a lot of tornadoes in Indiana. I'm applying to Purdue next year, good to know, haha.

  • lol ya last i knew tippy co. has the most tornatos in indiana.

  • yea b/c marion county[indianapolis] is probably at the top of the list..as of 2005, marion co. had a lil over 40 tornadoes and that number is pushin 50...but idk...im guessin naptown is either 1,2, or 3 in the state.

  • Texas is the most tornadically active state. Indiana doesn't even fall in the top 10..this is according to NWS statistics.

  • indiana is number two for tornado damage cost under texas...there wuz a tornado by muncie wednesday though

  • You can't compare apples to oranges. Damage, and Damage Cost are two different things. You can damage a whole forest and it not cost a thing.

  • @rbuszka dude i lived in indiana and there was no tornado there i lived there twice but in kansas and nebraska have the most tornadoes TORNADO ALLEY

  • @rbuszka I thought Texas was the most active.

  • @rbuszka omg i didnt know that indiana is the 2nd most lmao im so moving hah

  • @peteg913 Tornadoes or if you are in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant.

  • I'm sorry you think so.

  • @owenowen How is this a waste of time if it saves lives?

  • It sounds like its not getting enough juice.I thought Newport,Delaware's was bad..What a shame.I still love STH'S

  • wow you can hear all the sirens around campus pretty well from up there. nice video!

  • Well, if you listen closely, you might be able to hear a wavering of the pitch, which suggests to me that this siren has bearing problems, and might be about to fail. This next weekend, I'll see if I can get a video of a nearby black-painted 2T22 that's on the university's Pharmacy building.

  • @rbuszka I used a tuner, and it only wavers a few cents.

  • It is running slow. It is probably a three phase model running on a phase invertor.

  • nice sth 10 sirens

  • Awesome siren! I love how that Thunderbolt 1000T winded up in the background.

  • Sweet video!
