If you use a 2nd Launchpad, does it show up with it's own MIDI port? e.g. 'Launchpad 2'? I'm wondering how Logic will see two Launchpads transmitting the same messages e.g. C-2, C#2 etc?
Is it possible to have other MIDI controllers plugged in at the same time as LaunchPad? Because when I plug another in and try and assign some of the pads on it, it uses some of the slots on the Launchpad up. :/
@ClarkTrentMusic We include right-angled USB cables that ship with the Launchpad which allow this to work perfectly. For an example of this please see thesecondwhorl on youtube and search for 6 Launchpads & Ableton
Hi, thanks for the reply. Must admit I wasn't expecting a one.
I think a video called Launchpad x4 is better to see. But still having the USB port on the back would have been a far better design. Id guess most people will use multiple launchpads side by side.
I cannot help but think the side angle USB cable was an 'oh bollox' moment when you realised how bad they lined up. IE more damage limitation than a conscious decision in the design process.
@ClarkTrentMusic Thanks for the feedback on this. If you have any further suggestions feel free to contact us via the answerbase contact form and we will pass your suggestions on.
@ClarkTrentMusic I completely agree. I was going to buy a second one but this has stopped me. I hate the side port on the one I have as it is. Looks like Akai 's gonna get my bucks on this one.
so is it possible to make synth loops with this? like is it possible to upload a note to a square and play it like that? because im tired of fl studios n shit n i want to make my songs with this....if i can
how does this work with the launchpads' user modes midi mapping in ableton live?
like if i midi-map my ableton set to 1 launchpad's user 1 and user 2 template, can i midi-map the second launchpad's user 1 and 2 templates separately? that means i can have a total of 4 user programmed templates
@cefrio Cubase is not compatible in the same way as Ableton is, however will work as a MIDI device much like any other MIDI controller does. In fact any DAW which responds to MIDI will work with the Launchpad.
@ThaJSpraya Most of those are all really expensive, while this guy is only 199.99 USD. And I don't even know why you mentioned those midi keyboards... They aren't really that exciting. By the way dexter is no longer an actual device, it is a software add on.
hi,,,,i have the launchpad, and i was originally using it with the novation version of ableton, and now i am using the full version of ableton live 8, but i can't see the launchpad in the control surface...help anyone please?
Please make sure you have the latest version of Live from the Ableton website. Once you have downloaded and installed this, the Launchpad should be available.
When more than one Launchpad is connected, you will see a different colour grid appear for each Launchpad. The grid can be set to the same place as other grids, or in a different place.
btw i just thought that it wouldnt be so bad if you turn it around so the top part becomes the left part.
of course that you will have everything bad placed, but it can be easily solved with software, which is cheaper than re-designing and building the hardware (this is for you, novation guys!)
@mingmongmoose That would require the 3 launchpads on the left to have their USB out on the left and the 3 launchpads on the right to have their USB out on the right. This would mean that Novation would have to redesign the guts to compensate for something that few people are going to use...
Wouldn't it have made more sense to have the usb ports on the back of the units. This way you would be able to line up multiple controllers properly. Imagine what it would look like with 6 controllers, not very pretty.
if you check some other video reviews of this product you'll see it actually comes with a right angle usb connector, solving this problem. Like in Music Radars first look you can see it.
bonjour j'aimerais savoir si le launchpad marche aussi avec la platine ( dj first mix pronner ou autres merci d'avance )

This has to be the daftest design ever!!
If you had six lined up each one would have to be a row higher than the other to allow for the ridiculously placed USB port.
I was all ready to buy 3 of these until I saw this video.
I really hope these people don't get paid much to make stupid drawing board mistakes like this.

Could do with a USB pass-thru so that you can stick the launchpads together side by side, daisychaining them.

what is the behaviour if you connect 2 lauchpads in Live ?
Will we see 2 differents grid (each one with its own color like when you connect 2 APC40) or will the red grid be extended to 16x16 pads ?

if someone could answer this and talk me through it, then it would be greatly appreciated

Still doesn't solve the problem of having them lined up together without a gap.

i have only nanokey and nocturn, two REALLY small controllers. both of them with usb on the left side.
its really unconfortable in small spaces. maybe in a club it may be different.
in addition, if you plan to put them in the left side of the notebook, the cables will be a complete mess
fermixx 2 years ago
@fermixx
There is no excuse for the USB ports not being on the back.
I cannot understand who thought this up and then who passed the idea to start production when monkeys like us can see this straight away for free???
