This is my very favorite version of this song. I remember recording this LIVE on the radio and would listen to that cassette over and over again. I especially liked her dads introduction.
Waddy played with Warren Zevon and Linda Ronstadt before Stevie and another group Ronin. As for coke for those who are too young to know it everyone was doing blow like there was no tomorrow. There are plenty of people beside Stevie who have holes in their noses and spent as much money on treatment as they did on the coke. So just stop with comments about something that happened before many of you were old enough to remember what was happening then.
She always says such precious things to us at concerts. I love that she loves us, her fans, so much. She says, "I wish you could just be HERE...and look at YOU out there...it's wild." Well...I think it's pretty wildly great from our side of things too, Stevie. :) We love you too. <3
Amazing that Stevie is still around given the amount of coke she consumed in the 80's and to top it off being addicted to Klonopin....recently saw her with the mac and she sounded great!! ....rock on gold dust woman !
Yeah, odd comment considering '83-84 was the time when I thought she gained a little bit of weight, even before going to rehab and getting onto klonopin. Everyone says she was at her thinnest in '79, but I don't see it...
she was her thinest in the 70's but stayed pretty thin till 184 started to gain abit but 1985 she had put on a far bit if a watch the red rocks concert you can see i think she looked gorguss anytime beside the late 80's and early 90's but she was getting old to dont forget i think coke made her age but oh well shes beatifull
You can really tell how affected she was by robin's death. All the performances after that stevie just got more and more wild as well as more and more out of it....
I just love how at 2:08 she turns back around to the mic like she thought of something else to say, or she wasn't finished, and she wanted to say it one more time, you know?! I just think she's so cute. I love to watch her perform. It's great.
She's gonna be on Craig Ferguson this week. Im almost as excited by that as my new puppy on the 23rd. Thanks for posting. I take unwarranted and undeserved pride that she and I both come from Phoenix. But I'll take it anyway.
Definatlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!!! These versions of Outside The Rain & Dreams are among the best EVER !!! !!!! Sure the audio isn't the best BUT I WASN'T THERE SO THIS BRINGS MEEEEE THERE ANY TIME ! And me being nicksfan052648 AM EXTREMELY GRATEFULL FOR THAT !
Out of the many many many live versions I have of "Outside the Rain" I have to agree with most posts here.....this is my all time favorite live version. I really think Stevie used up a lot of her voice on this track during the show, cause she had a hard time getting the same passion and strength out of her voice after Dreams ended.
This is my favorite version of Outside the Rain. I thought in general she was pretty out of it and off key for this concert, but Outside the Rain was fantastic!
I would never say that she and the audience lose each other in this show, the way she hops around with her arms outstretched towards them after Gypsy and the gazes she gives out to the crowd makes me think she's in tune with them the whole time.
Well see if you can go on the road touring state after state and performing 2 hrs on 4 hours of sleep at best. How on key would you be? She did cocaine to stay awake. A mistake which nearly cost her, her life.
I didn't like a lot of her performances from US Festival in 83. She had gotten a little too wild, especially vocally, and wasn't singing in key. This was really the start of her decline with cocaine addiction, ultimately getting to the breaking point in 86.
BUT, something about Outside the Rain from this concert I have always loved. I think it's just that Outside the Rain "works" with the wild all over the place vocals, while others don't.
I totally agree about "Outside the Rain"! At first I didn't like some of these US Fest performances...but they all grew on me. I love "wild" Stevie even if she is out of it in some places during this concert. It's all good in my book. But the wailing in "Outside the Rain" works very well.
I completely agree with all that you said. I feel around this time- maybe due to the strain of her voice- the melody of her songs took a backseat when she performed. Or maybe she was looking for new ways to perform old songs... but it didn't always work. I think it worked for OTR because it's such a loose song.
Maybe I would have liked her solo better without those women background singers. Lori Perry was nothing more than a Stevie wanna be. She even tried looking like Stevie but was too homely to pull it off. She even married into the Nicks family which creeps me out. My comments will probably piss off some fans but oh well.
You replaced me Stevie - all Love to you ; still a favourite

This tune is in perfect harmony with the timbre of her voice(and Lindsey would not have coped with the of his instrument. Waddy!)

Unfortunately this was during her admittedly HUGE coke addiction period. That's why she's just WAY too thin in this clip.

This guitar player plays with a lot of feeling. Does anyone know other bands with whom he played?
Semente200 2 years ago
He is Waddy Watchel. Played with Zevon, Jackson Browne, James Taylor and others.

I never really much cared for Stevie's solo stuff in the 80's..
BUT always liked this song!!
I know she has stuck with Waddy Wachtel forever and a day, but his 'sound' does not mesh well with her...

I believe Stevie was very heavy into cocaine at this point. It works for awhile (performance enhancer) but becomes a problem in the long-run.
