Absolutely terrible. The opening scene were the woman is giving birth over the communicator is so bad it's laughable. Take Armageddon and plaster the name "STAR TREK" over it and this is what you get.

JJ Abrahms kills Star Trek!

Actually, the Romulans go back in time to destroy the Federation (timeline A, which we all know and love); Spock to restore timeline B, follows the Romulans back in time to fix the "damage" and fails; thus creating timeline B, JJ Abrahms timeline, which no one will know or understand or even care I about I wager!

Gene Roddenberry will be spinning in his grave!

It was good to see Kirk in his yellow uniform. All the other pictures he was in black. I was worried the went all "Dark Knight" on him.

I am a Trek fan.. and I know this is being done as much to try and open up this wonderful world to new fans.. (seeking out new life?) and for all those uber-"fans" that are pissed off that it's going to mess with established "canon".. its the weight of all that canon that makes Trek so difficult to write for or get into, so better that they start with a clean slate.. because like cannons, too many and your ship will capsize.

I think it's fair to say- Star Trek is about making exploration and the advancement of knowledge more important than yourself- if all a movie is is sex and explosions, it can still be good, but it can't be Star Trek. Hoping to Hell the didn't screw this up. I actually love the new look, but they have to remain true to the franchise thematically or, well, we'll have street protests or something. BTW, this is legit- I saw it in the opening trailers for 007. They don't run it before every 007 show.

Because I prefer the darker, edgier flavour of sci-fi.... and I cringed regularly while watching Voyager.

Throwing the Prime Directive out opens more characterization as opposed to a more religiously seemingly dictated value of morals if you understand the distinction.

Every now and then, it doesn't hurt to give things a re-boot. Sometimes it's needed, like the batman franchise. I think it's a new era and this still seems to have the star trek spirit.

I know once I saw the kid say "my name's James T. Kirk" I freakin cheered! I loved "Enterprise" and I always have wanted to see the the old crew pre-chris pike era. This rocks!! And I agree with you SpoonMonkey14 - this is gonna be bigger than transformers 2.
