That wasn't the transformer, you would have seen a fireball fly out of it, due to the oil overheating, that was etheir a wire grounding out due to a bad insulators, and it just tripped the fuse.
Mildly interesting video of an off-screen blue flash (lightning or arc) during light snow, but badly mislabeled. "Transformer Blows Up During Blizzard"??? This video shows no transformer, nothing "blowing up", and no blizzard. Visibility is about 1 mile. "Blizzard" means visibility = about 5 feet, not 5000 feet. No transformer is visible. (They're large can-shaped objects on poles.) Nothing "blows up". (No explosions or fires to be seen anywhere.) Grade: D (mislabeled) Stars: 2
OK, you seem to know alot. I heard an extremely loud BANG yesterday. It sounded like a gunshot, but much much louder. Do you think that could've been a transformer explosion? I didn't hear anything before or after it. It was extremely loud though! And it did happen during a snow storm. I didn't know what it was, but my dad wo works at the National grid said it mightof been a transeformer exploding. This video is just an arc flash isn't it?
@IloveSPIDERZ : A very loud BANG could be a lot of things: car backfiring, firecracker, gunfire, expulsion fuse on a power line, explosion in a burning building, etc. Not an arc (that makes a loud "BUZZZ" at 60Hz, not a "bang"), and not a transformer explosion (that makes a deep "KABOOM" and sprays burning oil). The blue flash in this video was probably a lightning strike or a power line arc. If the video had sound, that would tell more. (Lightning goes "bang", power-line arcs go "buzz".)
Thanks lonewolfintj! OK, I'll eliminate arc flash, car backfiring, firecraker, and burning building. (I have seen some buildings on fire explode, it is VERY cool! haha)
I'll tell you exactly what it sounded like. Look up and watch the video "Concord Breaking the Sound Barrier", and it sounded exactly like that. Which opens my mind to a sonic boom. The reason I eliminated the things in the previous post was because there were NO sirens. Not before, not after.
@lonewolfintj You are dead wrong on the blue flash. I have seen MANY transformers blow and what you see is a distincitive Blue Flash. A transformer explosion usually comes along with an ARC- obviously. Oh, and btw lightning sometimes goes Kaboom too LOL
@jgong8638 : No, you have not seen "many" transformers explode. Very few ever explode, so you can't have have seen "many" even if you were there to witness every one. And you weren't. More likely, you've seen exactly ZERO transformers explode. You've seen many "wires arcing" and choose to call them "transformers exploding", even though you know better. That is ignorant behavior, not something to brag about. Blue flash = wire arcing. Huge red fireball = transformer exploding. Not hard.
That was not a "transformer blowing up", it was just an electrical arc. HERE is what a "transformer blowing up" looks like, so you'll know from now on: watch?v=fzbQjd_Oo4Q
This just happened to me right now! I was just looking out the window when suddenly, this huge flash of electricity followed by a huge boom came up before my eyes! Im still shivering to this moment cause it was very shocking!
dude, WTF were you doing, I did not see any fire or sighn that that was going to happen so you should not have been up there. Why were you creeping around in the bush spying on Mcdonalds employes?
it's really wierd it looks like three things going on, some brief pale red glow like a short offscreen to the left. then the same glow again followed by a bright blue arcing. then you can see the bright blue piont of light obviously coming from the lower transformer arcing. so maybe one transformer blew up first off the to left causing the one down by the McD's to overload/short/arc/fail. im wondering why you cant hear the one offscreen buzzing cause it seems pretty close.
i think one transformer blew in the distance causing a chain reaction and causing two other weak ones to go from the resulting surge .. im just guessing
What were you filming in the first place?
