  • Not saying this guys wrong but I'm 28 and I started shooting at 10 so for 18 years I've been told NEVER dry fire they even making shooting caps so people with bolt guns can put there guns away uncocked and never dry fired.. So what's the truth?? Is dry firing bad or ok????

  • What is Follow through sir what is the advantage of that .?

  • @psifactor12 STAY DOWN ON YOUR GUN FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE SHOT.

  • shooting rifles isnt that hard people I do it all the time and I have dont it since I was a kid. If you want a perfect group the two main things you have to master are breathing and trigger control. A good tip I make is take three deep breaths and at the botom of your third breath hold your breath line up the target and squeeze the trigger don't jerk it. If you apply the same preassure to the trigger every time and your breathing stays the same your going to be accurate.

  • hi guys i live in central ny and work at redding reoading. its agreat pleasure to see you guys usng our product and obviouly the results you have with them! i hope someday i wll own that gunwks 6.5-284 with te huskemaw scope on it! keep up the good work gentlemen and always look forward to seeing what you uys will do next! nevermind the propaganda from the people who will never kow what it takes to send a bullet 1000yrds + away and make a clean kil!

  • @woodchuckslayer86 Thanks!

  • I hope to settle the dry firing argument here. SOF (spec ops) and scout sniper training both entail dry firing, just as the author said, to eliminate variables such as flinch, and reinforce good habits such as follow through. Simply fact; if you don't believe me, go find the field manual 3-05.222 (SOF) and MCWP 3-15.3 (marine), I'm sure someone's put them on the internet by now. I'd quote what I remember, but I wouldn't want them knocking on my door again. Hope this helps.

  • M24! YAY my favourite sniper rifle after the Barett .50

  • @Deathuntneki4 thats not an m24... thats a remington 700 sps (buckhunter edition i think?)

  • @ken0is0gay0fan0club Model24 is a remake of Remington 700.So m24 is its base.

  • @Deathuntneki4 wait what? if the m24 is a remake of the r700 (which its not) how is the m24 the r700 base?..... i dont understand what you are trying to say... the rifles are not related in make or design in anyway.

  • @ken0is0gay0fan0club remington 700 -> updated version called M24

  • @ken0is0gay0fan0club remington 700 -> updated version called M24

  • @Deathuntneki4 no remington took the r700's barrel and bolt assembly and changed the around to make the m24 police rifle its like comparing a toyoda with a lexus sure the are both owned and made by the same poeple but they are completly different

  • QUIT AIMING THE DAMNED RIFLE AT THE PHOTOGRAPHER! (check out frame 017!)

  • Nothing beats live firing for accuracy. Dry firing is like wanking and telling the world it is next to the best thing.

  • i disagree man, it helps u get to know the feel of the trigger and believe it or not it helps u with your flinch

  • Of course nothing beats live firing you idiot. Dry firing helps your live firing. Idiot

  • Naturally you wanks when you have no sex life. You don't see the police and military forces all over the world encouragiung their men to do dry firing. The obvious reason is it damage the firing pin!! Go ahead and wank until it breaks and you are still no better shooter. LOL.

  • The military and police are not interested in dryfiring for accuracy purposes. They are gave alot of ammo for no cost to them, and told here you go, shoot till you hit. The good hunter out there will shoot 1 time and provide food for the family. Alot of competition shoots dry fire there rifles more then they actually shoot them with live rounds.

  • A good hunter WILL not damage his firing pin!! A rich idiot pretending to be hunter thinks he can become a good shooter by spoiling his gun.

  • You are an idiot, the first week of the two weeks at the rifle range in Marine Corp boot camp is spent dry firing your rifle, it's called snapping in. I am sure an E-Expert like yourself can Google it, and learn to spell encouraging. 0321

  • It is obvious you never served your country before. All military dude knows the 1st week you don't give live rounds to booties as they may shoot somebody. They don't dry fire for accuracy, they do it for safety reason. You just insulted all Marines. Idiot.

  • @sok8888 I am a shooting coach. All good shots dry fire. That's how a shooter perfects positions and burns in his firing sequence. The guy in this vid is exactly correct.

  • @sok8888 Oh yeah; It doesn't hurt a centerfire. I have one that has been dry-fired well over 200,000 times. And safety is handled by following the four rules.

  • @sok8888 And you're gay, homo.

  • @Grizzlyatoms I assume 0321 is your outfit? Get the fuck outta here you meathead.

  • @Yumyumtuna 0321 is his job. Semper Fi

  • Yo Champ, never point your rifle to something or somebody (0:17) unless you want to kill or destroy it. Remember your safety basics.

  • Just do not dry-fire too much.

I recked the hammer and my rifles trigger pull decreased after I did too much.

Always use capped ammo if you can.

  • @fixdeluxe1 then u got a shitty rifle cause you should be able to dry fire all day long without damaging your rifle, unless you are shooting rimfire.

  • Yes,I was shooting rimfire. The trigger mechanism started to squeeze up.

A Marlin papoose chambered in .22LR.

But every other rifle of mine has been fine.

  • @fixdeluxe1 got any pics of that Papoose? i had one when i was a kid, loved it could fit into the stock. Great little survival rifle.

  • No..But I am doing a review of it soon.Great take down rifle.

  • If you're going to risk an animal's life with the shot (wounding I'm talking about) then a dryfire or 3 sounds like a small price to make sure you get it right...

Like it's been said - doesn't do much damager to centrefires at all.

  • dry firing does damage the gun i guess this guy has alot of money and just doesn't care. Center fire rifles don't get affected as much as rimfire rifles do. Either way it damages the gun. I'm just saying i wouldn't do it unless i have snap caps specifically used for that purpose.

  • Purchase a snap cap, they come in every caliber that ammunition comes in, and then you can (and should) dry fire to your heart's content.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought dry firing your rifle can do damage, I know they hate when you do it in the gunshop unless your definately going to buy the rifle

  • Rimfire rifles, yes

    Centerfire, No

It damages rimfire weapons because the firing pin/striker hits the rim of the round. If the round isn't there, It strikes the hardened steel of the rifle, thus damaging your firing pin.

The fireing pin on centerfire rifles will hit nothing but air if dry fired. The military and police force utilize dry fire training extensively to prepare personell for the range and real world situations.

I do it on my own weapons all the time. They're fine.

  • @hoot352 They fail in time when dry fired. Use a snapcap.

  • @ufloetz if you are "filing" on a centerfire....it is you rifle.

I dryfire 8-10x as many live round as I send down range. This year is not over and I am well over 3k live rounds.

Bottom line......DRY FIRE.....if you proctice the fundamentals you will be a better shot.

  • @chillerboy134a You bet, I would use snap caps myself.

  • @ufloetz you are welcome to use your snap cap. bottom line is if you have good kit dry diring will NOT damage a good rifle.

  • @chillerboy134a I know for drills and such people dry fire. Not one gun manufacture will recomend you dry fire, however I dont think one will say you cannot because in drills people do such.

Wether 1/2 million pulls of the trigger it fails or not.

To each their own, I try not to without the snapcaps.

  • @ufloetz Surgeon, GA Precision, KMW, AI, I can go on on the number of manufactureres that recomend and fully endorse dry firing. I can not speak for them all. If the world I live it is not only recomended, it is almost required.

  • @hoot352 use an empty shell in the rimfire...

  • @plumberontap so you're saying if I put an empty round into my rimfire rifle and practice dry firing that way, it won't damage my firing pin?

just wanted to make sure before I do any damage haha

  • "... and your guide's done his part, maybe you'll be able to do yours."

    Best line ever!

  • i put a spent primer in an empty case to buffer the pin a bit so the mechanism doesn't damage

  • I thought I was the only one that did this. Its a great idea to practice your marksmanship. I usually do not hear good advice on here, but this is a good one.

  • isn't dry firing bad for any gun???

  • Not a problem with centerfire rifles. Don't dryfire rimfires without an empty case in the chamber.

  • it is, especialy with annular pecution like the .22 cal

  • that's a strange way to say rimfire, it sounds so sophisticated

  • At 0:18 this guy points the rifle at the camera man. That's not acceptable.

His dry firing tips are very good.

  • yeah he deserves death penalty

  • ROFL

    get a life

  • You have nothing better to do than to troll months-old technical vids and you are telling me to get a life?

There are four shooting safety rules. If you don't know them you aren't a shooter and you aren't worth talking to.

  • devel155, you obviously don't hunt and spend time around other people holding guns. Let me know how it goes when you go to a gun shop or hunting education class for th first time, and point the muzzle at people.

  • PseudoScienceb20,

I own four firearms, I am an avid hunter. I hunt alot of small game, turkey, deer, moose, and partridge. I understand it is illegal to point an unloaded firearm at a person in any situation. BUT if it happens by mistake it is not a big deal. I have had LOADED firearms pointed at me by mistake, resting on people laps or on the ground, or swung past me. I do not freak out and pull my hair out screaming at the people who do it. I move out of the way or tell them their mistake.

  • Yeah, some older dude had a shotgun pointed at my brother's head. It was in a gun shop. Yeah, they are unloaded but that's not cool at all.

  • yeah, even unloaded guns are dangerous, u dont know if there's any stucked bullet, especially for M16, M4 series

  • i have the same especially when shooting of a bench using my bi-pod, i don't worry too much as it doesn't affect accuaracy for me at all i just try to have a straight pull on the trigger keep pulling til the bang and never flinch my eyes at all this improves accuracy no end. len

  • nice vid

one question when you allow for follow though after the shot how do you allow for the recoilas i seem to lose target sight in the scope, i was just wondering if there was a way or teecnique to help combat that thanks alot 1967spud
