hey, im not trying to be mean ir anything but i think your voice would be more fitting with the celtic woman version of the song... you have a wonderful voice... but you also need to learn to open your mouth more... like your yawning wile your singing it also helps you cary note really well...
i'm so proud of my gaelic irish heritage! your interpretations of traditional ballads are brilliant! i would love to hear you sing some O'Carolan- Planxty Irwin perhaps?
It's very hard to sing something in Gaelic if U don't know this language. I'm a Polish and I love this song and I know that my Gaelic is hidious. But, try to sing something in my language and I will tell U the same thing, that ur polish was mispronounced :) (And my english is not good also ;) )
Better than the girl who sits next to me in chorus and complains each time we get a song in a foreign language.
I understand it's not my tongue, and it's a very hard language... but at least I tried, and I don't appreciate you acting so pompous as to say that just because I was raised speaking English, I don't even deserve to attempt one song in a foreign language.
Don't you worry about that person dear, your pronounciation is not bad, It sounds very posh English, but OMG Gaelic is the hardest language in the World...I could understand most words you said, and thats saying a lot...Very Well done, and keep doing what you are doing!! :)
@xaldinsbaby1 Sorry that I'm American and Gaelic isn't my native tongue, not to mention how terribly sorry I am that it's one of the hardest languages out there to pronounce... God forbid I try.
I think you did a wonderful job. I'm sure it will only improve with time too, of which you have plenty by the looks of it! Thank you for sharing your talent, very wonderful.
Heh... Gaelic is a very hard language to pronounce. I went off the Anuna version, and tried to match the vocalist's voice. I thought it was pretty close but who knows.
That's ok Lass! Your right it is one of the most difficult languages! But you have a lovely voice and I'm sure we will be seeing you in lights one day!! Irish Blessings to ya!
Unless, the aim of the artist was to do an exact replica of the song, or you were referring to her pronunciation (which I can't comment on) then she can't get the words wrong! Folk music evolves, think how many versions there are of raggle taggle gypsies! Although the fishing on the hill was a bit odd, most version have sit!
About the sit/fish thing... I am aware that most versions do say "sit", but no matter how many times I listen to the Anuna version, I can't hear her saying "sit", she sings "fish". So I just decided to go with that since that's the version I was trying to imitate.
My lessons are actually given by a woman who was a judge at a singing competition I entered some years ago. It turns out she's a well-known vocal teacher in my area.
Thank you very much. I don't remember what suil a ruin actually means, it's Gaelic. In any event, the reason why you probably didn't get some of the words is because the chorus is in Gaelic and the remaining lyrics have a rather Old English feel.
I've been singing since I was 3, so I guess you could say I was born with it. It still takes a ton of practice to refine it, I've been taking lessons for over a year. :]
you have the most amazing and the most beautiful eyes i have ever seen...you are very beautiful and have a very beautiful voice...puts me in a trance like state everytime

Yes, but in the version I was covering, the "m" was held out, as in a hum.
I've gotten much better at doing this type of thing (it's been 2 years - crazy), but I'm always trying to improve nonetheless.

And buy my love a sword of steel

I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I had my heart again
And vainly think I'd not complain
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
