We've got our fair share of silly knife laws here. It's obvious that the people who make the laws don't understand knives. People at work are always asking me to open boxes or cut peices of tape for them becaue they don't have a knife. Everyone needs to carry a knife whether it's legal or not!

Right now in New York they are trying to ban all pocket knives that open with one hand saying they are switchblades. I stocked up on them so if they do become illegal I can start selling them and make a lot of money!

Its illegal to carry a knife with a 3 inch blade or longer, as well as illegal to carry any knife if they determine you have intent to commit a crime. not just a violent crime, ANY crime, as in if you have a knife on you and you get pulled over, congratulations, weapon violation.

There's a lot of confusion about what's going on here. They're trying to emplace a ban on imported assisted openers by reclassifying them as switchblades. While, yes, this would not make them illegal under a single federal law, their sale, transport, and use would be placed under any current state switchblade laws. However, as switchblades are heavily regulated in most states, so would these knives. They're trying to make them illegal by default instead of outright banning them.

In my home town all lockblades are illegal and if you went around town and asked folks whether or not the knew this the would say no. The city for the most part uses this law as an additional charge added to say drunk driving etc. It's not illegal to buy just illegal to carry. I have a feeling this is how it will be used nationally. For us in the U.S. at this time it appears unenforceable. People around here are fighting the camera at the red light. Also.. This is mostly pertaining to knives that are being imported INTO the USA (which is why CBP is coordinating it).. Companies like Benchmade and Kershaw are alright because they make their knives in the USA to begin with... But companies like SOG, Cold Steel, Spyderco etc that have knives or parts IMPORTED from other countries are the companies that have to worry..

Believe me I am against the law as well, but it is a customs law, they are not going to make all the knives illegal in the entire US, they are just making them illegal to carry between state lines, just like switchblades are now. The government really has no reason to do so. They really don't have good reason to be so uptight about switchblades.

Knives do fall under the second amendment. Just because something isn't a firearm doesn't mean we as American citizens don't have a right to own them. "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It doesn't specify what kind of "arms" citizens can own. This WILL be a direct violation of that amendment God forbid it passes.

While it is true they dont have a reason to do this and shouldnt do it at all, what you fail to realise is that they are not trying to restrict what you can OWN just saying you cant carry them between states.

They are the federal customs people, not the state and local laws.

They are trying to get around the constitution by limiting what you can transport across state lines.

For instance, there is no federal law against switchblades, just you cant take it across state lines.
