Man.... they really cast these two well. Y'know how is some films they don't look alike even though they're meant to be family? Well... every time I watch this all I can think is how alike these two really are...
I will never understand how ABBA were able to come with a song that relates SO easily to every mother and daughter when I'm pretty sure none of them had kids at the time... Truly an incredible band!
I actually loss my grand mother when this movie came out and this is my favorite song in the whole movie. I watched it ten times in the movie theatre. This was also her favorite musical. It makes me cry everytime.
Currently I am in a very broken state. I looked at my mum, trying to reach out to me, but I didn't let her. Eventually, i broke down and told her everything. I cried on her shoulders and she held me. I cannot remember when was the last time. After that I realised I needed my mother the most. All those lost years, I turned to boys to get attention. Now it has all changed. I never want to miss any moments when she is here. She won't be here with me forever, but I know, her love for me is forever.

The instrumental at 3:30 in time with Sophie saying 'Will you give me away?' and that silence between the two of them, Donna trying to hold back the tears of happiness that she has asked her to do it yet sadness that this will be the moment that she really hands her daughter on...it just gets me every time. Little words said...but the whole song plays on your mind in that moment of silence and makes you consider just how much a special bond between a mother and daughter can be.

This song makes me think of my daughter -- she'd be 16 now. She passed away when she was 12. I don't go through a single day without thinking about her.
This song really speaks to my heart. It makes me realize that I really should be kind to my mom and be loving to her. My father raised me to hate my mom so for the past 13 years, that's all I've ever done. But whenever I hear this song it reminds me that my mom won't be here all my life and I need to be loving to her. Just like she is loving to me. I am truly sorry for how I treat my mom most of the time. She means the world to me and I love her so much!

@Emmathemo I know what you're feeling. I'm 19 now, and my dad passed away about a month before I turned 18. I watched this when I moved out of my mom's house, and it made me miss them both so badly. I understand what it's like to know they won't be there to see you get married or to hold their first grandchild. It's a cliche and I'm sure you've heard it so much already, but if you ever want to talk, I'm a great listener.

I'm 18 and I'm telling you, it will get better because you will realise she would want you to be happy. The pain will be there but you will go on and make her proud just by being you. I hope that since this comment you have found a way to cope. I fully understand how you feel and all you need sometimes is silence rather than all the "i'm sorry's". Be brave and love everything and everyone you can.

I'm not the biggest fan of Meryl Streep's singing voice, but I do have to admit that this song is wonderful. ABBA had a real knack for putting real emotions, without overshooting them, in their lyrics.

I wanted my Mum to sing this at my wedding as soon as I saw this film, especially as we are both ABBA nuts, and she's a beautiful singer being as she used to be in a band. It broke my heart when she was adamant she's not coming due to family politics and her partner (who hates me) brainwashing her into thinking it's the right thing to do.

I'm not the biggest fan of Meryl Streep's singing voice, but I do have to admit that this song is wonderful. ABBA had a real knack for putting real emotions, without overshooting them, in their lyrics.

This reminds me of my mom so much.
She ran away to Sweden for another guy than my dad 2 years ago and I seldom meet her (1-2 times a year). Once she visited me and we watched this movie. The mother in this movie reminds me so much of my mom, the personality and such - The songs meaning too.

Lol, I love this song so much. When I watch this movie though this song always brings tears to my eyes. It's such a beautiful yet sad song ,and actually true. There is a strong bond between daughter and mother if the father disappeared/died/etc or just because. I should no me and my mom have a strong bond .

I wanted my Mum to sing this at my wedding as soon as I saw this film, especially as we are both ABBA nuts, and she's a beautiful singer being as she used to be in a band. It broke my heart when she was adamant she's not coming due to family politics and her partner (who hates me) brainwashing her into thinking it's the right thing to do.
I'm getting married in 2 months, and I'm just having to deal with it and get on with my day! This clip makes me cry. x
