I drove a yj off road a while back and its just as good as my landrover disco. Don't know why people say that one or the other is bad off road. They're both good.
I finally bought a jeep. forest green TJ w/ 4.0 all stock with 31" mud/at tires and 5 speed. quit my cubicle job as well. they can go to hell as i ride away in my TJ. HA! i should write a song...
Finally wound up getting a YJ. It took me a while, but I finally found a rust free unmolested example with all the specs I needed. 1991 Islander edition, white, with an automatic and a 4.0, AC, hard top, and full doors. All original with the exception of a 4" susp. lift, 33's, and some pro comp bumpers.
1988 YJ Jeep Laredo here, automatic 4X4, 4.2l, hard top, a/c, power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, AM/FM Cassette. 70,400 original miles. For Sale after fresh paint. A+ stock condition, no rust. Mojave Desert Jeep.
i have a stock 89 yj you people are stupid 87 is not the best year, 92 and up is the way to go.more power stronger tranny better cage. and for top heavy issue rule of thumb you can beat your wife with a switch no bigger then your thumb,so if you lift your jeep 4'' your wheels be real close to 4'' farther apart, that means you can beat your wife with your tier iron if it is no bigger then your thumb.
Not meaning to butt in, but I think he means if you get wheels with a shallow backspacing (so they stick out farther) the added width helps to compensate for the top heaviness caused by the lift.
I've rolled a Jeep on the road before, so when I got my newest one, spread the tires our as far as I could to get a more stable base.
Been there done that. Post 1991 was a stiffer tub. Somewhat due to the new sport cage. Don't care much for superlift. Rubicon express is the way to go. The only problem with 6" s on a yj it you still rub w/ 35's. Not to mention the get goofy top heavy that high up with standard with axles.
@drummer1212121212 (assuming your comment was directed at me) I would, but I'm putting hand controls in it so as a result I need an auto trans. I don't want another project car either so unless I get a 95 or an earlier year that's had an auto swapped in, I'll probably get a tj. I didn't realize they only made auto yj's for like one year until after I wrote my first comment.
Man I love those old yk's, I'm in the process of restoring a series 2a land rover, but I'm hoping to get an old yk as my daily driver. Those yk's always take me back to when I was a kid watching Jurassic park.
One of the factoryupgrade packages for the jk is 26e package. the 26e comes with 17" alum wheels and 32x9.50 goodyear sra's. i'm a jeep salesmen at adams jeep in aberdeen maryland. we build new jk's and mod them as you want.
For those wondering where to wheel in Maryland. Here is you answer. Get writen consent to use land! Wheel only where you have paid for a pass or have writen consent! Join Rausch Creek in PA. Get a Assateague Island ORV pass! Sign up for a Jeep Jamboree or some other truely constructive well planed trip. What ever you do and where ever you wheel only wheel if it's legal!!!!!!!!
Please please please remove the front and rear sway bars and trac-bars. Your YJ will thank you. It's safe and an amazing improvement! First thing I did to mine!
Please read the other posts. This wheeling is lame. It doesn't require removeing or disconnecting anything. If these guys needed to disconnect on this trail they shouldn't be allowed to own jeeps. I've been wheeling jeeps for over 15 years. These jeeps are able of running trails harder then this without any mods. Check out some other vids where we did disconnect and remove. Thanks for watching
Stock just means there is nothing on these jeeps that wasn't on the when they left the jeep dealership over 10 years ago. My jk is also stock in this vid. There is no lift or any other modifications. It's simply just a 2007 4 door rescue green school bus 6speed jeep wrangler x with 32" tires, 3.8L v6 with 3.21gears. Thank you for watching.
thanks, both these guys were new to the off road thing. i wanted them to take it slow and see how their jeeps reacted. if you listen close you will hear me yell at them harder, faster . my jk will craw over all that stuff in 4low w/ both feet on the floor and my sway bar bolted on. not so much on the yj's.
thanks dude. i hope i'll have some more this weekend. the green yj in this vid was in a bad crash and has been replaced with a 2009 jk x and yes it's totaly stock. so i hope that this weekend we get a chance to put it and the driver thru the ringer.
watch my other vids where i did disconnect when i needed it..... this isn't wheeling.....this is lame. if i needed to disconnect my swaybar to do this i shouldn't be allowed to own a jeep. thanks anyway for watching and taking your time to share your expertise with me. lol, lol, lol.
a sway bar keeps your axle in line and in control on the road. off road it's a good idea to disconnect the sway bar links to allow you axle to have full range of travle up and down. if you watch in this vid my jk wheel is floating in the air at one point. if i had dissconnected my sway bar it would have been touching the ground giving me better traction. i've been wheeling for along time and didn't need to dissconnect on this little trail. thanks,
ahh thats what i thought. I was wondering why it didnt flex to hit the ground haha. Im hoping to get a wrangler JK soon. I jsut have to trade in my ford escape and hope I can get an even trade.

You don't need low gear for any of that. First in 4 would give you a key ingredient -- momentum.
