the air intake is in the finderwell, but it has a devise that will deflect water as long as it dont flood out. however the rear locker has a breather that needs to be relocated from the top of the rear axle hogs head to a higher location via a scoba mod. and thats diffrent than a snorkle mod.
@rivengle Toyota make a supercharger, I have the URD supercharger in mine... 505hp, 0-62 in 5.0s with 35" Toyo Open country MTs and a full dream 4x4 upgrade package.
Could someone tell my why the FJ doesn't get very wet on the inside? Like did Toyota make this just so it won't flood from deep water? Was yours lifted?
That FJ is stock, they can ford some pretty deep water even when stock. I can go up to my hood without a snorkel, that's 54" (4'6") of water. I have a 4.5" lift, 35" Toyo Open Country MT's, and a ton of other stuff (spent $65,000). They have great seals so very little or no water gets into the cabin; if it does, the interior is all designed to get soaked and muddy, then clean and dry out with ease. You can literally take a hose and spray down the interior to clean out any mud.
How exactly do you have a 4.5 inch lift since there are only 3inch kits and 6 inch kits. And you are a moron if you take a hose to the inside of this vehicle. How can you run up to your hood without a snorkel. Do you know where the intake is at? I am asking these things because i own a lifted one and what you are saying sounds like you don't own one.
You can make custom lift kits in any size, and no 3" and 6" aren't the only lift options, do some research. Hosing off the inside isn't dumb, in fact it's recommended by Toyota, the interior is designed to get soaked. I designed and patented a custom system that intake air at the top of the hood, so as long as the crown of the hood is above water, I'm good to go. I designed in a flood reservoir so if a little water gets in I'm still fine. I can attach a standard snorkel for added water fording.
your car wont flood if you keep moving. Had he stopped, it would have flooded.
And not allowing water in the cabin could be a bad thing. If your in such deep water that you worry about it entering the cabin, it's often times best to let it in so that the truck doesn't start floating and risk being washed away, or worse.. tipped over.
That looked like a fun time, but nothing my stock land rover has never accomplished.
This video realy shows how NOT to drive through deep water. Possibility that your air intake will suck water insteed air, is very high, rushing like this.
You can do that with an diesel and having an snorkel, but driving gas engined trucks that way through the water is absolutly wrong. Yes, it looks good, but that's all. What do like better? A good video or the bill for a new engine?
Dondt get me wrong, I just want that you all have fun 4wheeling, WITHOUT trouble.
the vehicle is rated at fording 28" of water; and the air intake is sealed into the wheel well with the duct facing up away from the vent in the fenderwell; chances of water in the intake with this amount of water is very minimal
