Unfortunately the journalist was misinformed about "the more humane bolt system" in slaughter houses. The bolt is designed to stun the animal until it's throat can be slit and the animal bled out. An animal can be conscious while having it's throat slit, although in some slaughterhouses there is a second person available to give the animal a second bolt if the first one didn't do it's job. We believe what we're told too easily.
