FYI This really isn't a Christmas song. Loesser wrote the duet in 1944 and premiered the song with his wife at their Navarro Hotel housewarming party.

In 1948 Loesser sold its rights to MGM, for its 1949 motion picture, Neptune's Daughter. The film featured two performances of the song: one by Ricardo Montalbán and Esther Williams and the other by Red Skelton and Betty Garrett. These performances earned Loesser an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Performing this song seems to be the gateway to stardom since almost all famous singers yound and old do a rendition. The song is originally from a 1949 film "Neptune's Daughter" and can be found on You Tube being performed by Ricaldo Montalban at one point and even Red Skelton. (Check it out.) My favorite rendition is a 1964 version sung by Ann Margaret and Al Hurt (also found on You Tube). It's really 'hot.' Check it out too, you won't be dissappointed.

I wonder how the rumor started about Bing and Doris doing this song together. I looked it up, but even if you listen to the other recordings, there's a small difference. This must be a younger margaret because her voice is smokier than Doris'. Bing has a different "knack" to singing than John mercer. Interesting fact. kudos.
